The GAHFU (Garifuna American Heritage Foundation United) channel features a variety of content aimed at preserving and promoting Garifuna culture. This includes videos on cultural events, music, dance, cooking recipes, workshops, fitness, and speaking engagements. The channel serves as a platform to educate and raise awareness about Garifuna heritage, targeting both the Garifuna community and the wider public. Some of the videos were filmed during our live sessions offered at the Garifuna Language & Culture Academy in Los Angeles, made possible in part by a grant from The Alliance for California Traditional Arts in partnership with The Walter & Elise Haas Found, The William & Flora Hewlett, and The James Irvine Foundation. The objective of GarifunaRobics is to infuse culture and fitness to today's society; showcasing the Garifuna culture through something almost anyone can relate to, which is a workout. The music that is being played during the class is strictly Garifuna, with different genres of Garifuna music such as, Punta, Punta Rock, Gunchey (Goon-Chay), Wanaragua (Wah-Nah-Ra-Gwah), Hungu Hungu (Hoon-Goo Hoon Goo) and Parranda (Pah-Ran-Da). The class is a mixture of dance and fitness, so that you get your ultimate workout, and also learn some new moves. These classes are a barefooted experience, primarily because we want to stick to the traditions of our dances being done barefooted. You don't have to be a pro at what you are doing. You just have to be in it to win it, be prepared to burn some calories, and most importantly HAVE FUN!

¡no se rindan en su esfuerzo! Mantener la cultura Garifuna viva es un esfuerzo no solo de ustedes, sino de nosotros también los hispanos. Es una lastima decir que en Nicaragua, solamente 5 personas hablan garifuna a pesar de haber mas de 3000 personas de descendencia garifuna viviendo aqui, y es peligoroso perder el idioma....luego se pierde la danza, comida e identidad garinagu. Un abrazo desde Nicaragua.

Sopa's Album "The Prince of Punta" was my first Introduction to Punta, Mom (rest in Heaven) had one of my Aunts bring this from a visit to Tela and bought it to the States, definitely one of those songs we woke up to when its time to clean, hearing it just makes me feel like Home, i smell the arroz y frijoles, la yuca y carne, Truly a gifted Man and the Banda that plays behind, Proud to be from Honduras and have been blessed by the Sounds of the Garifuna Drums and rhythms. I so love this. I am one of the organizers of the Annual Indigenous Peoples of the Americas Parade in New York. It is so sad that, other than myself as an "individual," no Garifuna groups in NYC have shown any interest in representing us. I am not sure if it is because many of them identify more with Africa? But we must remember that we are indeed indigenous American peoples too.
