    Don’t you get the maintenance loan in staggered payments so I’m wondering did you ask for the full amount at once to pay for your tuition or did you pay it gradually

    I know its a fairly hard question to answer, but how many weeks on average per year do you have off from uni? Im reading it's as low as 6 weeks for some unis but as high as 14 weeks? Id definitely need to work during the breaks.

    • @LydiaMartinMedic
      @LydiaMartinMedic Před 3 dny

      It has changed every year - year 1 & 2 it was around 18 weeks off (Xmas 2 weeks, Easter 4 weeks and summer 12 weeks). Year 3 we lost the long Easter so was around 12 weeks. Year 4 summer is shorter again so around 6 weeks! Year 5 at Southampton starts in July so this year I have lost august where I usually work the most! Basically pre clinical years have a lot more weeks off :) hope that helps a bit!

    I’m a grad applicant who is returning to university to study Medicine this September! I had to do evening classes this past year for Higher Biology and Chemistry which I did whilst working full-time (a busy year but very worth it!) and blurting on a whiteboard was so useful for studying in the run up to exams. It’s essentially a method of active recall and for content-heavy subjects it works a treat ☺️ Have appreciated your content over the past year, Lydia! Super useful hearing from another grad who has worked throughout their degree.

    My best study tip is to try and study in an area that is not your bedroom and when you’re studying you’re thinking subconsciously about you bed and when you’re on a break you’re thinking about revision and if you have a willing victim (sorry partner)to practice OSCE skills on then make the most of it!

  • @EmilyMedStudent
    @EmilyMedStudent Před 23 dny

    My best study tip is so so hard to sum up (Do have a video coming soon!!! - providing I pass 😭) 1. Review the lecture content to ensure you understand everything filling in the gaps with research from lectures, google, or AI so that you have the best knowledge of the content. 2. Summarise the content in the form of a mindmap, lecture notes, or anki and then make 3-4 exam questions based on the content 3. The next day revise flashcards for the lecture you reviewed 4. After a week do the long answer exam questions as a form of blurting and then mark this with the lecture and see where gaps in knowledge are 5. Any identified gaps can be covered in a different way To be honest, anything that is really stumping me I will find videos to watch that presents the information in a different way. I ask friends who understand the content to teach me the information as hearing them explain it in person I can then ask questions when there are things that I do not understand. I make sure I can summarise the information in a fashion that makes sense, and so on. I am so excited to bring out a video on this so that I can move into my clinical years when I find out my results! 2 weeks left until I find out my results 🤞🏻 Also - loved the Taylor Vlog and cannot believe I ran into you there!

  • @dgnas
    @dgnas Před 23 dny

    if you’re like me, and have a tendency to write way too much on flashcards cut them in half! having a space constraint helps me concentrate what is truly essential to know! it also helps break up big topics, and it’s easier to learn small chunks of information and link them together. for courses that have a lot of terminology, i’ll cut my notecards into 4 and have the term on one side, and the definition on the other, and just review on the train or while waiting in line when shopping.

  • @skylarksummers3021
    @skylarksummers3021 Před 24 dny

    Oh! Best study tip: bring a friend and blurt all of your knowledge on one topic onto a big whiteboard, split the stuff you didn't know between yourselves, go away and research then come back and teach each other (socialising and working at the same time x2 productive haha)
