LA CARMAGNOLA ("Carmagnole") SARA MONTIEL
Sara Montiel sang this patriotic French tune on her film "Carmen, la de Ronda" (1959) however the song was only seen in several international versions of the film like "The Devil Made a Woman" or "A Girl Against Napoleon" from which we´ve taken this video. Sadly is not in its original Eastmancolor but it is a rarity that deserves to be seen. Arranged and conducted by the great Gregorio Garcia Segura.

This clip is a cameo performance of gorgeous Sarita in the film "La Casa de los Martinez" released in 1971. The sequence was actually shot in Montiel's own apartment at Plaza de España in Madrid, a place that holds dear memories for her since she lived there many years and her mother died there in 1968. Her famous recording of "Fumando Espero" was used in the soundtrack.

"Chacumbele", puede que sea el son afro-cubano más famoso de Alejandro Mustelier, pero de eso a que sea su apodo (¡que mal rollo, ¿no?, llevar como apodo el nombre de un suicida!). Igual es que, en los créditos, le hicieron la misma "trastada" que al argentino Alberto Cortez, que (por pecadillos de juventud) arrastró en España el apodo de "Mister Sucu-Sucu" hasta su muerte... ¡y la canción ni siquiera era suya, era del boliviano Rigoberto "Tarateño" Rojas Suarez! ¿Esperaría el público que entre medias de sus melodramáticas/profundísimas letras se arrancase con un: "Si quieres sucu-sucu te voy a dar Lo quieres por delante, lo quieres por detrás Si tú quieres gozar sucu-sucu te voy a dar. Ay tú no pases mas hambre que a mi me hierve la sangre, nena. Si tú quieres gozar sucu-sucu te voy a dar.
