I really enjoyed your review and tips. They have lightweight rain skirts and leg gaiters for those rainy days. they do a lot to keep you dry and comfortable.
Hi Alma! Thank you for watching and adding your helpful comment! I just finished walking the Via Podiensis and am now a reformed believer in gaiters. It easily rained half of the total of 35 days. The rain and mud that I had to walk through was impressive. From now on, I’ll be walking with over the shoe gaiters. So grateful I had waterproof boots! Bon Chemin!
How do you plan a camino? I have zero idea. I've only just heard about this whole thing, and I'd like to try one.
Hi ShazWag! I do hope you will walk. It will make an impression on you that will last a lifetime. Here are the steps that I took: 1. Google Camino de Santiago and look at the many routes. Then, pick “The French way.” 😉 (I really do believe that it’s the best first Camino). 2. Order a guide book. This will help you determine the length of each day and where you hope to sleep each night. 3. Decide how long you can walk. If you can devote about 6 weeks, you can walk from Saint John Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela. If you don’t have that much time to walk, decide how much time you do have and calculate your entry point. At a minimum, you will want to join the Camino in Sarria, 10 walking days to Santiago. 4. Plan on starting with fewer miles in your first days and plan a rest day every 5 to 7 days. 5. Decide what time of year you want to walk. I recommend end of August through mid-October for the entire French Way. The weather was great! 6. Make reservations for a room or a bed for all of the night up to and including your first rest day. Make reservations up to and including your second rest day on your first rest day. Then, repeat this process across your Camino. Or, you can book your Camino through a travel company. Just typing Camino de Santiago into Google is going to result in advertisements for several such companies. 7. Start watching CZcams videos on shoes, backpacks, packing, etc. 8. Arrive at your entry point and start walking 😃🥾🇪🇸 Buen Camino!
I loved following along each day with you. You make beautiful video / photo blogs and your music choices are lovely 🥰 I’m planning on solo walking the Via Podiensis in mid September 2024. You are an inspiration 🙏🏼✨
Hooray, Suzanna!!! Bon Chemin! 😃🥾🇫🇷 Thank you for watching and offering such kind words. Mid-September should be just lovely! I expect the weather in September to be predictably nice. I hope you will let me know how it goes for you.
You did it!!! 👏 What a great journey this Chemin has been!! Thank you for taking us with you 💜
Hi Rita! Thank you for joining me!!! Your support is greatly appreciated 💕 Bon Chemin! 🥾
Excellent!!! Very proud of you. You are quite an inspiration for me. Lots of blessings. 🙏🏻 Would you do El Camino de Santiago again in the future?
Hi Baby! I would absolutely do the Camino Frances again! I would be happy to do it tomorrow!!! I don’t know that anything can top it or compare to it for the full “Camino experience.” Thank you for watching and supporting my walking channel 😃💕🥾. Buen Camino!
WELL DONE....YOU MAKE ME WONDER WHY I CHOSE CAMINO FRANCÉS....WILL LOOK AT LE PUY NEXT TIME.
Hi Margaret! I am very glad that I walked The Camino Frances first. That was the walk that set my heart on fire. The Camino and the Chemin are very different. It’s fun and interesting to do both. Thank you for watching and supporting what I am doing with my little channel. God willing, I’ll keep walking! Buen Camino!
@@kbhothothot Thanks again for replying. Im afraid I have another question for you....I love the way you have presented your videos and 'slide show'. Not being particularly IT savvy, was that putting photos onto a slide show then uploading the slide show to your channel? I dont intend having a public channel, most likely only for my family and close friends, but would love to do it in a similar way as yours.
Hi Margaret! Thank you for your kind review of my little videos. I am currently using iMovie to make the videos. This app makes it super easy to drop videos and photographs from my iPhone photos app into a video that contains both. Then I add the music. That’s it! Bon Chemin!
We don’t know you, but have been following your journey. Your videos are SO lovely and you are an inspiration to us and our walking travels to come. Thank you for all that you’ve shared! Our first longer-distance trek will be Hadrian’s Wall, but - thanks to you - we’ve added the Camino and Chemin du Puy. ❤
Hi Lauren! You just gave me the biggest, warmest smile! Thank you for watching and offering your kind words🙏 I do hope you let me know your thoughts on Hadrian’s Wall. I am hoping to get there and The West Highland Trail next year. I also hope you walk the Camino through Spain. It is indeed special! Buen Camino!
Congratulations!🎉🇫🇷🥾 I have a high school friend and her husband who are planning this very trek! Husband walked the Appalachian trail 2 yrs ago by himself and last yr kayaked the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. He’s very ambitious, just like you!
Hi Jamie! Thank you for your support! Your friends will find the Via Podiensis much too easy, after the AT! Bon Chemin!
Felicitaciones! Sos una mujer valiente 😊🫶🏻
Bonjour Ana! Merci beaucoup! 🙏💕🥾 Bon Chemin!
Another great achievement. Congrats
Hi Diane! Thank you!!! I’m grateful for your support 🙏. With lots of love, Bon Chemin!!!
Well done, what an achievement 👍👏👏
Hi Margaret! Thank you very much!!! I appreciate you walking with me! Bon Chemin! 🙏💕🥾🇫🇷
Yay you did it!!😊 I am in awe and so proud of you!🎉🎉😊
Hi Nene! Thank you for your support!!! It means a lot to me 🙏💕 Bon Chemin! 🥾🇫🇷
Wow, quite a lot of elevation. One of your 3 musketeer friends had a huge pack, was she camping?
Hi Margaret! There are no easy days on Chemin! Janet’s pack looks bigger than it is because her pack cover is bigger than her pack. Bon Chemin! 💕🥾😊
Pretty churches
Hi Lola!!! Thank you for watching and commenting! Bon Chemin (and, You are my Sunshine!) 🙏❤️🥾🇫🇷🥐🍷
🌺
Bon Chemin! 🙏😊💕🇫🇷🥾
Glad you are feeling better and have got back on trail. A beautiful day's walking.
Hi Margaret! Thank you for your kind well wishes! It was my favorite day! 😃 Bon Chemin!
For folks without a smart watch, they make watches for kids that have a silent vibrating alarms. I got one on Amazon. The band is plenty long enough despite it being a kids watch. Very reasonably priced. No need to buy or even bring a smart watch to get this alarm feature. (I own a smart watch but don't want to bring it since my phone will always be on me. I don't want to lose it or deal with charging it every day.)
Hi Karen! Brilliant suggestion! Thank you for watching and contributing! Buen Camino!
Hope you feel better!
Hi Tami! Thank you for watching and your well wishes! I am over the food poisoning and feeling better than ever. Today was great 😃 Bon Chemin!
Oh dear. So sorry to hear you’re feeling pretty sick. I hope a day of rest will have you feeling much better.
Hi Kathryn! Today, Day 30, was better than good. It was my favorite day, yet 😃 Thank you for your kind words. I’m back on trail and fit as a fiddle! Bon Chemin!
Have fun! Stay safe!❤️
Hi Kelton! Thank you for watching! Today, Day 30, was amazing 😃 Bon Chemin!
Oh I am so sorry! Please take care of yourself. Hopefully tomorrow you'll be fine!!! Hugs, Rita 💜
Thank you, Rita! Spent the entire day in bed. Tomorrow really needs to be better! Bon Chemin!
Thank you for letting me know your thoughts about the differences between the camino and via podiensis 😊
Hi Rita! They are very different! Bon Chemin! 🙏💕😊🥾🇫🇷
I love watching your camino videos, it feels to walk by your side. Thank you 💜
Hi Rita! Thank you for walking by my side! I appreciate your company 🙏💕😊 Bon Chemin!
What a beautiful little village!
Hi Rita! Every one of them is stunning! Thank you for watching 🙏 Bon Chemin!
It’s nice to walk and be able to enjoy it without any hurry. Blessings. 💝
Hi Baby! Thank you 🙏 Bon Chemin! 💕🥾🇫🇷
You’re not alone💫
Thank you, Denise! Bon Chemin 💕🥾🙏
Simply beautiful 😍 Thank you for sharing.
Hi Baby! Thank you! 🙏💕😊
Is it getting warm out there yet?? 😊
Hi Baby! It’s about to get warm. It’s been high sixties to low seventies. Forecast calls for temperatures in the eighties this week, with more rain over the coming weekend. Slog ahead! Thank you for watching! Bon Chemin!
Did you ever feel any type of fear when walking by yourself? I’m sure all these areas are very safe. It just makes me wonder and mentally getting prepared for my own Camino in my near future. 🙏🏻
Hi Baby! I feel very safe on my own on Camino and Chemin. The local people really do watch out for you. I haven’t had a moment of concern. Thank you for your very good question 🙏 Bon Chemin!
What a moment with the sheep and the border collie! They’re amazing. I love the perfect rest spot that popped up too.
Hi Little Sita! Getting to watch that dog work was one of my favorite moments! Thank you for watching and commenting 🙏 Bon Chemin!
What a beautiful room! 🤩 How do you find the Camino Podienses compared to the French Camino? Are there any differences? Which one do you prefer so far?
Hi Rita! The differences are really big! I am putting my thoughts together now for a video all about that. I like them both, but I find “The Camino experience” much easier to get ahold of in Spain. I would d this again. I really wish I were walking all the way to Santiago, after I reach SJPDP. I would definitely change that! I would walk 12 weeks and go from Le Puy to Santiago. 100%. It’s going to be hard to leave without doing that. It’s going to feel incomplete for me.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you, Baby 🙏💕 Bon Chemin!
Esteban? For a horse? :-)
Hi Twigs! Cute little fella! Surprised you don’t see the resemblance 😉 Bon Chemin!
As always…great video!! ❤
Thank you, Baby! Bon Chemin 🙏💕😊
May I ask you what do you recommend wearing as far as shoes/socks go?
Hi Baby! This is a great question that I actually have very strong feelings about! Your feet are everything on Chemin and Camino!!! I wear REI silk sock liners (not the polyester ones) and Darn Tough merino wool socks. I think this is an unbeatable combination. After 20 days, I have only experienced one blister. And, that’s on a toe that insists on hiding under another toe. That one little piggy 🐷 is always going to be a problem. Bon Chemin!
Oh! Shoes: I am wearing Keens mid-level boots this year. I chose them because of their wide toe-box and cool heel grip on the inside back of the boot. My left foot has been happily cruising in these since the first day. My right foot developed plantar fasciitis after a week. I don’t think it’s the boot. I think my prescription orthotic inserts need to be updated. A 500 mile walk will ultimately change the shape of your feet. I should have gotten new orthotics after completing the French Way in ‘22. Love my Keens 💕🥾😎 Bon Chemin!
@@kbhothothot 🤣😂😘…great, thank you!!
Well deserved!! 😘🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
And, much appreciated! Thank you, Baby! Bon Chemin!
My goodness, how can the mileage be so incorrect?
Hi Margaret! I would love to know the answer to that question!!! Today, the issue is getting to the edge of town (big city) vs getting to my Gîte/alberge, etc. The bigger the city, the farther the walk. Bon Chemin!
Love this video, it brought tears to my eyes... thank for sharing.
Hi Rita! The phone booth made me cry, but I made a “call.” Bon Chemin!
Super ❤️
Hi Sheena! Thank you for watching! Bon Chemin!
Love all those sheep 🤩
Hi Rita! The one that licked my kneecap clean really made me laugh! Bon Chemin!
0:09 I have never seen this new technique for dry feet 😂
Hi Rita! My friend Cris had wet socks the entire way! She is very clever! 😂 Bon Chemin!
What a beautiful day, loved the phone box - brought a tear to my eye as I think it did you. A big mileage day!! are you having any rest days?
Hi Margaret! The phone booth made me cry, but I made a “call” to talk to my mom and dad. ❤️ I do not have rest days built into my schedule. This was a big mistake! I now have plantar fasciitis and am limping across France like Quasimodo! I have just completed 15 km and still have 13 to go for today. I have decided to get off the muddy trail and walk on the road. I think this may be easier. Bon Chemin!
How beautiful ❤️ be careful I have suffered with PF on and off for 30+ years. Bob and Brad US physios on utube give good advice on stretching. I found them very helpful. Take care
@@kbhothothot please, take care of yourself 💜
The phone booth 😍😍😍 Are you using a dedicated GPS or an app?
Hi K57939! The app: Via Podiensis. Bon Chemin!
The phone booth made me cry, but gave me an opportunity to call my mom and dad ❤️
@@kbhothothot ❤
Unbelievable the job of that awesome dog!!! 💖
Hi Baby! I love watching the dogs work! They are so smart! Bon Chemin!
“Bon jour” 😂 and the sheep. ❤
Hi Denise! The sheep were great! And the shepherdess had firm control of them! It’s a bit lonely out here. Thanks for reaching out ❤️
The sheep 😍😍😍
Hi K57939! Thank you for watching! I really laughed while one of the sheep licked my kneecap clean😂 Bon Chemin!
Hi Kathy!
Hi Keith! Thank you for saying “hello”! I miss my friends 🥲 Today, I am halfway and feeling like I still have a long way to go. I said goodbye to everyone that I met on the trail last night. I only know one fellow from Japan who is going all the way to Saint Jean Pied de Port. There will be far fewer people on the trail going forward….
What a beautiful trail, you take some beautiful pictures. Thank you
Hi Margaret! Thank you for watching and your kind comment! 💕 Bon Chemin!
Love the Gothic church... this town reminds me a lot of the spanish towns along the French camino
Hi Rita! It’s really pretty! I stop inside all of the churches along The Way, to feel the centuries of joy, hope, and grief that way expressed inside each one of them. Bon Chemin!
I am sorry you have not been lucky with the weather so far. In northern Italy we had many days of pouring rain and thunderstorms with hail. This year spring is a little late.
Hi Rita! Thank you for watching and I do believe you are correct! The temperatures have been cooler than I expected, but I believe it starts warming up next week. Bon Chemin!
@@kbhothothot Kathy thank you for sharing this amazing chemin!
