I fully started crying listening to this cuz I relate so heavily. Being transmasc and growing up with an emotionally abusive father, my older brother half raised me and I adore him so much. My big brother definitely was my wings and my eyes and didn’t deserve to have to worry about my safety and growth from such a young age. I really miss him cuz he lives far away from me now. I can only hope he knows how much I love him and how much he’s helped me to even be alive today.

😮 Is it just me? Or does it feel like the song is grimmer depending on your chosen perspective in second verse. When you follow the whole song through the fish in a cage’s eyes, it’s grateful and more hopeful. But in the second verse, if you switch to the others perspective, the bird in a cage, it has holds darker meaning about their relationship and makes you see the futility and forces you to see the unfortunate reality- that’s honestly comparable to our own in many ways.
