Hi from Melbourne, Australia.. Animals and Wish……equal top tier. Next tier Dark Side…. I feel Great Gig and Us and Them are about a minute too long each..
Over the years The Wall and Animals have become my favourites. Although only about 7% actually go to private school, so The Wall alienates a lot of listeners like me, but the compositions are epic
Oh yeah for sure. Great records! Even if you haven’t been through what the character of the concept has been through (I certainly have not!) the whole thing is still so appreciable!
Piper was the album that turmed me on to Floyd after I had dismissed them as a yuppie band. It ticked every box for me. After that I delved back into their catalogue and found so much more. I still don't particularly care for anything post The Wall though
I do recommend giving a revisit to the final two (Momentary Lapse and Division Bell) but on your own time. When it hits you, it’s hits you… and if it don’t, that’s cool too 👍🏽 thanks for your comment! 😃
The original space cadets, Pink Floyd struggled in the early days. It wasn't bad enough Syd Barrett was affected by the drug scene then exploding in London, but the band didn't connect with record buyers right away. The first album was so far ahead of its time, even with its flaws, nothing else was like it. Top 40 was in full control, in the US, and the Floyd didn't fit in, so their singles did generate any airplay until Money, in May, 1973. After that, the stunning Dark Side dropped, and Pink Floyd was the band of bands, overnight. For the rest of the decade, Pink Floyd could do no wrong. Things weren't well, in the band, and hadn't been, for a while. Roger Waters felt imposed on, and his songs exploring the impact the death of his father before he was born had run their course. The final album by the band we'd all known for tem years was anticlimactic, a leaden farewell, after the theatrics of The Wall. The dream was over, reality, and time, had set in, taken their toll, leaving shell-shocked survivors. I bought the top 12 on or near release dates, have copies of the other two, vinyl, CD, and digital, but never listen to anything on either of them. A Toast To Panama Red - Masters Apprentices
Excellent vid champ👍
Thank you 😃👍🏽
Nice presentation! I have a few of the albums mentioned, but my personal favorites are the all-guitar ones: The triple vinyl Shut up 'n' play yer guitar, ....some more, and Return of the Son of.... The only reason it isn't worn out is that I immediately put it onto a top quality cassette and then wore that out over the years. The "Guitar" album also is pretty good, and I have one of the posthumous Zappa Family issues (the one with the huge fuzzy mustache on the CD case) with a great version of Watermelon In Easter Hay, which got played at the funeral of a friend who was a big Frank fan. Getting into some Zappa Plays Zappa too. Dweezil's story about Eddie Van Halen is priceless, and shows how much Frank was respected in the artistic community.
Hey there Paul! Thank you for your comment. Very well said! Indeed the “Shut Up” set is fantastic - and I too own the vinyl! 🤘 love Dweezil too. He’s a spitting image of Frank and a really cool dude as well (I have met him before). Cheers Paul, stay tuned for more cool content 😃🤘🎶👍🏽
Zappa is a complete enigma Cody. He can create music for us folks that we didn't know we needed and comparisons are impossible. Hot Rats , if I had to choose one album , but there is definitely holes in my collection and knowledge , and I need to dig deeper into the great man's music. Cheers Cody !!! 🎵🎵😍
Hey PJ! You’re so right. He’s just a brilliant, brilliant man. I’ve got probably 100 of his releases at least. Cheers PJ! 😃🤘
Apostrophe is probably my favourite. 👍
A classic!!
Hey Cody! So many great ones. Just Another Band From L.A., Overnight Sensation, Joe's Garage, just to name a few.👍👍👍😎
Very cool video. Great to see Genesis fans showing the cool pieces of their collection!
Glad you enjoyed! 😃🤘 thank you!
It was a great year for music, off slightly from the deluge in 1971 and 1970. It was a year filled with some "classics", but also great albums far more deserving of respect than some hipster picks. The Top Ten are classics by any definition. I bought all these albums within days of release, have played them for 52 years now, still playing them. That's an indelible measure of worth, when you can still find enjoyment in a set of songs, 5 decades later. In that sense, they are the "top" records of the year. Epic LP… Tull makes Zep look silly
I had that album when I was a teenager. Now Im sixty
Certainly was a great year for music, I think I would argue that from late 1970 through sometime in mid 1974 was a blazingly glorious half decade for rock music. Props for the Talk album behind you!
Agree 💯 For me, 1972 was fantastic already because the Exile on Main Street, as I've been an incorrigible Stones fan for half a century now. However, 1971, and 1972 gave us Sticky Fingers, Led Zep IV, Santana III...
For me , TaaB is tied with CttE and Trilogy!
I can see why! 🤘
Hey Cody! Still getting caught up. Play some YES or Squire today. Chris gone 9 years today. God i miss him SO MUCH❗️❗️❗️🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊😎
Actually Jeff, if you listen to my show on www.deepnuggets.com tonight at 7:42pm EST we go live with Close To The Edge… dedicated to Chris Squire ❤️ my fave…
The day before we got the awful news about Chris I was on vacation near the redwood forest in California. I found myself a little bit lost while driving, I was in an Alpine meadow that if you had told me existed I would not have believed you. I'm in the middle of nowhere and looking around me I can see the main highway miles away. I'm listening to close to the edge and I felt like those words have never made more sense to me. It was such a beautiful place in such wonderful music and I had such a great day exploring a place most people have never considered visiting. I woke the next morning to the horrible news. Thanks for the reminder, time to go put on the fish and think about how much grace and beauty Chris brought into the world.

Great choice!
Too many to mention. Start with Machine Head, Honky Chateau and T-Rex, and go on from there.
Love this song.
Me too, and this version is truly astonishing.
Amazing album.
Agreed!!

Such a great year for music. I owned roughly half the albums you selected. Good ear! I had set my alarm for the show, but must've misread the time and missed it by half an hour. Senior year in HS. Hair down the back and dressing like Sgt. Pepper for my school yearbook. We were paragons of racial harmony.
I would love to see the Sgt Pepper photo of you!!! Hahaha
@@BrockwaysVinylBytes It would break your eyes, I'm afraid, and that would impact your drumming if not your skeet shooting. They're saying skeet meat is not very neat. But at least they brought back "neat". They are very busy. But who are they? [cue Twilight Zone theme] (Ask your grammy. You did win one, right?) On to 1934!

And I can't even afford to buy new records for $30.
Owning a record shop for a number of years certainly helped with all of this… 👍🏽
Cody this is by far my favourite show youve EVER done, mainly because DT are my no1 band, i was lucky to hear PULL ME UNDER back in 92 and the album was just soooooo good, ive seen them 10 times in England, once in scotland and once in Hungary [ im from england] they are the ONLY band that i have every album and ive been buying since 1980, john petrucci and mike portnoy are also my 2 favourite personalities in music [ as well as my favourite drummer and guitarist], the hardest question i get is my favourite song and album, just so hard to answer.
Love it!!! ❤️🤘
Great show and very interesting history from Scott. My Dream Theater journey is much like Cody's in that I got into them about 2017, a couple of years after Rush played their last show and started talking retirement. I was listening to a lot of prog metal etc. I bought tickets to the 2019 tour and Distance Over Time came with the purchase. After seeing the tour I became a fan and the journey began. I have seen every tour since here in Canada, including the JP solo tour which was my first time seeing Portnoy play. He is like an octopus and clearly a master of his craft. The Dreamsonic tour was impressive in Hamilton. I have a huge respect for the band. The Maginni Portnoy controversy is interesting and I somewhat understand how the long time fans felt about the departing of Portnoy. I equate this to a fictional scenario in which Neil Peart left RUSH for a few years and was replaced by a new drummer! Imagine how you might feel about that and how one would feel upon his return. That being said, Mike Maginni is a power house and articulate drummer and was my introduction to the band. I have collected a ton of DT music on this journey and look forward to the new release and tour. I will be there! Thanks for the show guys, very interesting! Oh and Scott mentioned "Tai Shan" awesome! I have sub'd your page man just based on that! lol
Us Canadians stick together!!! That Dreamsonic show in Hamilton was indeed amazing!!! 🤘 thanks for your comment my friend. If you are still in the area, come check out my record store sometime. Second Chance Records!
