    Karen clarification please on block 21 for side units that get trimmed too 3 by 3 1/2. The blue sticky note says cut two background and two color but it doesn't give a size. The size and the book is 2 1/8 by 2 1/8 but I believe you cut oversized. Can you please give me that size

      Unfortunately I am out of town teaching this week and I don't have that information with me so I can verify an answer. If you ask on the Nine Patch a Day Group page on Facebook another participant maybe able to help you.

    Karen...i believe there might be a cutting error for block 44. I used your geese & HST method and the B units have to be cut @ 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" to get the finished 2" segment. Also the same with 4 HST, make 2 1/2" to finish at 2". A cute easy block using your suggestion.

      The patterns and cutting instructions are in the Civil War Sampler book by Barbra Brackman published by C&T. You have to own the book to participate. We would love to have you join us!

    Well, #40 may or may not make it into my quilt. It is pretty and I like the Sam Houston story but squaring up for the 8 1/2” block did not give me a seam allowance. Whoops. Not quite sure where I strayed but all the points are the same (I was consistent ☺️). Perhaps those T’s will just have a little flair when I add sashing and I’ll call it good.

    Thank you. You are the first person who has described exactly how I think about fabric and how I use fabric. And until i found you, everyone I heard said store your scraps by colour. I store my fabric by style, modern, brights, antique etc.

    Really liked your aunt's quilt. I prefer a totally scrappy look. Perhaps i should want my projects of that type to be more structured , but to me, it would then be just another planned pattern quilt. I like the random improv look. But i do agree on not getting too excited and sewing them together too soon, so you dont get color or prints off balance, lol, been there and done that 😅.

    On my #15 block, I decided to make life easier, so I drafted it as a 9" on EQ and then printed it as an 8" paper piecing pattern. I love the way it came out.

    My mom-in -law bought this book for me as a thank you for pet sitting. I have a gorgeous fat quarter bundle by Laundry Basket Quits that I have been saving for a special quilt. I must admit that I looked through the book and was intimidated by it. I’m a new quilter, so I am so happy and excited about your sew along. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and techniques with me. 😃

    I have picked various colors and put them in a box. All my blocks will be made from this box. They are all different colors, and I think by the last block I will have enough representation of each color to make it cohesive.

    Thank you so much. What muslin are you using? The one I bought in the quilt shop, is very hard to sew in. Are all like that, or there are some more manageable? Anyone can answer my question. I’m new (2 years) in the quilting world…😊

    • @KarenMontgomeryTQC
      @KarenMontgomeryTQC Před 3 měsíci

      My tan fabric is by Stacie West for Henry Glass Fabrics. It is called "Timeless Linen Basics". It is 100% cotton printed to look like a linen fabric. It is not muslin. You can find the fabric I am using in quilt shops, it comes in several colors.

    I love "the dog's breakfast" quilt. I have made many of Bonnie's quilts. I could see "the dog's breakfast" quilt with a stopping border and another round of a different type of block, another stopping border, and finally a piano key border.

    Finally! Someone who recognizes the true meaning of a scrap quilt! Quilts made from coordinated precuts are beautiful; however, they are not, I repeat not, scrap quilts. True scrap quilts are made from, guess what? SCRAPS from your stash! I make scrap quilts that are color coordinated, and usually with small pieces. Loved this presentation!

    Thank you for these videos. I am yet to get the book but hope to watch all the videos again when I do. One question...I watched you select fabrics for the overall project but how did you select colours for each block? Did you have in mind which block would go next to which, etc in selecting the fabrics and colours?
