More likely I will still fly SW because it is the most friendly airline. I have two young boys and to just eliminate the stress, I purchased the A group boarding passes. I know this is not always an option for other families, but it helped give a peace of mind so we could sit together

I was in Sandakan, Malaysia trying to fly to Osaka via Kuala Lumpur. It was the last day of my grad school trip and my first trip flying international. I missed my connection flight in KL because my first flight was delayed 2 hours.

I'm only 2 hours from Cleveland and have never been there. I've heard the airport is a nightmare.

I was flying Delta home from LHR to PDX with a connection in SLC on the 21st and we were delayed by four hours. I knew we would miss our connection and immediately got on chat with Delta. They got me on an Alaska flight from SLC leaving the following day as there would be no more flights out to PDX when we arrived. We got lucky, really. Many folks were still waiting to get to their destinations days later.

I've never seen a Murphy bed in a hotel. Schools in my city start on the 29th in August for K-8 and the 30th for 9-12 both half days then a 3 day weekend due to the holiday

I was scheduled on an American flight last week that canceled and they wanted me to wait till the next to fly. It cost me almost $500, but I rebooked on Southwest and arrived just 30 minutes later than scheduled. Southwest saved the day! AND American is obsessed these days with Biscoff cookies and Southwest gave a variety of salty snacks in the afternoon. Cookies with my Jack and Coke just don't do it for me haha

I am against it. I am one who needs a wheelchair to get up and down the jet way. I can walk to my seat with a cane while hanging onto something. I have to have bulkhead seats due to a large KAFO (Knee, ankle, foot, orthosis) which is a very large brace on my left leg, from Quad to foot. My fear is that if people buy up those seats first, it would prohibit my flying. I do not travel last minute so hoping booking way in advance might help. I have seen the abuse you speak of and agree it is a problem. I wish there was something we could show Southwest to verify our disability. Most of my trips are Sacramento to Denver. Thanks.

I think my main concern with the change is that SW will use this as a way to get rid of the COS policy. I fly exclusively SW because of this policy. It has allowed me to travel more as I am more comfortable and do not have to deal with any judgement from the person that would have to sit next to me. So not really sure what I will do if the COS policy is discontinued. I also want to say that I do pay for my extra seat when booking.

Hi Liz! Thoughts on the change from me are there’s a lot of pros and cons but overall change can be good too. I just hope they keep the free bags. I'm an A-lister and two flights away from being a preferred A-lister. I don't know what to think about the assigned seating. But I do know that I love the open seating because I get to move around the back of the plane to another seat if it is not full. If I'm flying with my kid, I can have her in the window and I'll be on the aisle and we can leave that open. If we have to pick seats in advance, there's no chance I will select those two seats and leave the middle open. I would have to just do the aisle and middle, otherwise someone will be right in the middle. Does that make sense? It's the flexibility we are loosing.

Hmmmm - if SW is now going to charge extra for seats that used to be included - then no - unless there's some new benefit or value associated with the extra cost. SW's base fares are currently much higher than Spirit, Frontier, etc. and so paying extra - in addition to the already high fare - would be a no-go for me.

From a coworker.... SW needs to keep some of those more legroom for retirees and employees that have the lifetime fly benefits. First, you have to start loading from the back forward. A) this will stop all the people in the wheelchairs, we all know that most people use those to preboard. How many times do you see them get wheeled down the jetway and then stand up to get in their seats. And then watch how many use the wheelchairs waiting at the destination.

I’ve got mixed feelings on the change. I’ve always liked picking a window in the back (typically fine when you’re a B) without having to pay extra. But I know it can add stress for families - looking forward to see how it goes ❤ I can certainly see where it will eliminate some confusion for folks - especially first timers. Fingers crossed that checked baggage remains free- that keeps a lot of extra baggage out of the cabin (and less for people to try to take in an evac 🫣).

I've never flown your airline because of the no seat assignment thing. It always seemed weird to me. I worked for 2 airlines previously and our flight attendants were pretty much obsessed with getting the seat assignment list from the gate. Those new seats you showed look cheaper like what Spirit has🫤

At 10:22 the new Hilton Hiatus is in the background--we were there July 12-19, and we were on the part of the beach you were at. It's a great place to hang out, we didn't even rent a car :-)

I’m happy about the change I just started flying southwest less than two years ago. I got the credit card companion pass promo. My card charges the annual fee in February and I was going to cancel it because I hate the boarding process it gives me anxiety . Now I might keep it but depends on what benefits they’ll offer. Early bird or upgraded boarding will no longer apply with assigned seats. I’m happy for families too I didn’t realize it was only 6 and under for family boarding until the other day I couldn’t imagine the stress of maybe not sitting with my kid who might be 7 for example.

I have CLE all of Aug. Its going to be interesting how the assign seats affect DHs and nonrevs. Hello middle seats.

I’ll be a new customer because of assigned seating. I don’t mind paying extra. I prefer to know where I and my family will be seated. Can immediately get seated and settled in.

Just curious on which brand of tights you use?

I walk with a rollator with spinal cord issues that affects my balance. I flew Southwest last year and honestly felt judged by the other passengers as I pre boarded the plane as I was then also getting a potential better seat than those who paid to board first otherwise. I've since flown other airlines with assigned seating and that is without issue. With that said, I like this change!

I think seeing all the buzz on social media and seeing peoples opinions, most of their reasoning for flying SWA is because of the open seating. What are the chances Southwest looses customers over this. My thought is since all Airlines are basically now assigned seating, then I have other options to explore. Now one might say well they may do assigned seating but 2 bags fly free. How long before Southwest starts charging for bags. Never thought they would do assigned seating like other major airline but now I would not be surprised if they started charging for baggage in the future. I think either if it’s because they are money hungry for making this decision or to crack down on Preboard abusers, they still profited whether people were preboard or not. Also with saying they listened to customers and this was their decision, are these supposed customers the same people complaining about Preboard issues? If so they can fly another airline that has assigned seating. The real SWA customers would say to Southwest, why change something that works and everyone loyal customer loves. So I see it as a way to make more money like a typical corporation.

I haven't flown since before the pandemic, but when I was, I adored your airline's open seating. I always paid the $25/leg Early Bird to guarantee A Group, and almost always managed to score an exit row seat. At the very least, a standard aisle. If I don't have to pay more for an assigned seat than I was paying for Early Bird, I'll be fine with it. I would like to see a restriction on carry-on baggage, especially when everyone can check 2 for free. If that gets eliminated, I'll be very upset. I'm infamous for bringing nothing but a big purse onboard, because I'm terrified of the TSA confiscating my stuff 🙈
