What if my handspun yarn received an invitation to the Met Gala? How would I design art yarn to suit the theme of the event? This is the intriguing question I've been pondering lately! The new MMoA exhibit, "Sleeping Beauties," sets the stage with delicate garments symbolizing the passage of time. With the theme, "The Garden of Time," inspired by J.G. Ballard's speculative fiction story for the gala's dress code, I have visions of florals and decay swirling in my mind! I'm crafting an art yarn that captures the essence of nature's cycle. Stay tuned as I blend fibers, including alpaca, silk, and REAL MOSS! to spin a textured tale of a garden of time.

So happy to have found your channel here! You verbalize many of the feelings I have about my own fiber journey! I just joined as a patreon member and am looking forward to watching all of your content!â€
I spin because I find many aspects of our current time period sick and depressing. Itâs a way for me to pretend Iâm not part of it and to feel a connection with a time when money wasnât worshipped. I guess I weave, knit, spin out of protest!
No not shein! đ
This video is very interesting and informative HOWEVER I just gotta say youâre so gorgeous and your mannerisms and way of speaking are so soothing. Lovely lovely lovely
This is so interesting, thank you so much đ
You make such wonderful, well explained informative balanced videos. so glad to have found you.. excellent Teacher!!!
Thank you for the informative video... working on some alpaca right now. wondering what you feel are the best proportions of alpaca and wool to blend together to give good memory and softness. Thanks so much!!
That was very helpful, thank you.
lol the "you know i woooont" was so relatable
I really hope this becomes a yearly tradition. Also I LOVE the idea of I-Spy yarn!
Beautiful! One of the best videos on the topic, thank you! âșïž
Where can I buy a triangle loom like yours?
That wheelâŠ..! It's exactly like one I was given when a friend died. I have used it but it was difficult for me as a new spinner. So I want to sell it, but I donât know what the style name of the wheel is. Would you please tell me what it is called? Thanks. (I have a little Kiwi which Iâm getting fairly competent with and I donât have room for two. So Iâve told my friend's son that Iâll give the proceeds to charity. That will be a fitting Memorial to my friend.)
Did you use the wrong part of the double drive bobbin? The little whorl on the bobbin appears to be at the wrong end of the flyer? It must work though.
Super. Thank you for being a super fibre spinning friend †I loved the style and pace of this video. Thank you
Your Videos Are Very thorough. Iâve been spinning again for 3 1/2 years. Iâve only mastered fingering and sock yarn. This is what I want to do for Tour De Fleece this year! Iâm sure glad I watched your video before attempting it. Also, I love how you are always so put together! It makes me feel like Iâm getting A lesson just for me and you bare enough to put effort into everything! ⊠yourself, your wool, your location and background in your house-everything! Thank you so much. Iâm just wondering if youâre close to me. I live in northern Iowa. Also, what, if any, wool festivals are you going to this summer? â€ïžđđđđȘĄđŠđđ§¶
Thanks!
great to see you again , that would look good in a small weaving
i find it interesting that they didn't also include Frigg in their charm as she is known to be the asgardian spinner. and is associated with spindles, distaffs and looms. Your mention of wanting new lambs makes sense though.
I just found you. Love your channel.
My new favorite quote: "If you can't spin it, then you can't spin it, and no one needs that kind of negativity in their yarn". Love it!
Have you ever made thread? How would one go about doing that?
Great video very helpful thank you.
Loved your video! I also have wool combs and those things are nasty. Although mine actually saved my life. When I got them, I decided to check in with my doctor about getting a tetanus booster. She suggested a full physical and spotted signs of breast cancer that I hadn't noticed at all. (We really need better education on this.) So I'm well and still spinning 14 years later!
There was also a French hand spindle for spinning lace-weight yarn. It was quite pointy at the top and sometimes the tip was reinforced with metal so it wouldn't break so easily if dropped. I've often wondered if that was the spindle in question.
You are a good teacher! Thank you.
yes yes yes!!! im learning about 10th-12th century viking clothing for historical reenactment! why am i not surprised one of your vids came up?! this is so awesome evie, thank you!!!!
Great project? Iâm just about to cut some of my own handspun/handwoven for the first time⊠Can you share what kind of shredder you use for your âwasteâ? Thanks :)
"The Omnivore's Dilemma" is one of the best books I've ever read. †I appreciated your explanation of how you came to spinning.
I've been letting mine rest a few days. But maybe I'll get more bobbins and give them a couple weeks.
It looks so dreamy
Getting my first wheel tomorrow!!
Hi! You think I could use any brand of double drive flyer and whorls for a Saxony style double drive spinning wheel (unbranded) 3/8 orifice? Thank you!
Belt and strap. It's hands free. The flared end keeps it under your belt and the strap locates around your opposite shoulder and around the carved nut. Nothing fell functoinal fell off.
That's where the royal septres come from isn't it? They're posh symbolic distaffs. I think so anyway!
Hi Evie! In my 40 years of spinning I always heard that how you wind your yarn on any spindle is called a cop. I think you are calling it a cob. It really doesnât matter but you are so historical that I thought maybe I have been doing it wrong for 40 years đ
It's a cop, you're correct âșïž
I'm trying to learn to spin but the fibre doesn't wind around the wheel . Everything spins but doesn't pull in
I'm one of the ones who loves a good hyper-focus review video. But in my defense, I am a knitter and one who crochets. And weaving is on my bucket list so HGA is relevant for me.
Q: Blending boards VS drum carders... What's the difference?
re: Bibliography out of date: A lot of the books become hard/expensive to obtain so even if you just wanted to use the Bibliography to look for resources for your spinning it would become cost prohibitive
Thank you for this JillianEve. You help bring back a true sense of the Feminine; of Being and understanding the importance of sacred space.
can any body, please, tell me why my wheel goes backwards ?
P.S. âȘâ«The first cut is the deepestâȘâ« Honestly, the worst step about sewing is cutting into a beautiful, virgin fabric...it always delays my projects. đ
13 additional thumbs-up for the environmental thoughts đ đČđłđżđ±đ
Please can you talk through how you plan Tour de FleeceâŠas a newbie I am not sure where to start x 3:34
Thank you for the nice video! â€
Love these videos, Iâve watched the whole series in prep for my project! What TPI do you recommend for carder cloth? My grandad is building me a drum carder for some alpaca blankets Iâve been given. They are so ultra soft I donât want to damage the wool
Iâm not interested in learning to spin, but watching you share I learn so much about yarn. Iâm a crocheter, an embroiderer and weaver. I so appreciate hand spun and you do an excellent job of teaching!
Iâm actually using this as a resource for what features i want, because Iâve took the weird approach of building one out of antique parts!
I just find. I am from Denmark. I just buy My fĂžrst. You Are on CZcams and My television. Thank you.
