This used to land in Gaborone Botswana in the late 1980s. The 747-400 replaced it. BA discontinued the route because of SSKB was a small airport

The Special Tails livery is my favorite. Beautiful and colorful, reminiscent of Braniff's Flying Colors scheme, which is another favorite livery series of mine.

I miss both the "Friendship and Saul Bass Tulip" liveries. The that hav3 today is way too generic looking.

En octubre de 1991 volé varias veces con los DC-10 de VIASA. De Madrid a Caracas, Caracas-Guayaquil-Quito, Quito-Bogotá- Caracas, Caracas-Madrid. Cuatro veces en total, uno todavía con matrícula holandesa: PH-DTL. Buen recuerdo guardo de estos cómplices de viaje. Hoy luce un DC-10 de VIASA en mi vitrina de aviones en miniatura, escala 1:400. Bonitos sus colores y bella estampa.

I was a Flight Engineer for World Feb 1989 - Dec 1995. Lots of good memories.. The Hadj, Malaysian passenger contract, etc.. Tough training but good training.. But I think the DC-10 was phased out long before 2010, as it was replaced by the MD-11

Liked the Dreyfuss livery design better. Would be nice to see the 'orange thunder bolt livery' from the 50's & early 60"s. It was the 'original' bare metal livery.

Esos si eran las aves de batalla de Viasa.De hecho en 1993 antes de que el gobierno puntofijista vendiera nuestra aerolinea a la española Iberia Viasa estaba finiquitando el contrato con McDonnell Douglas para la compra del avion que reemplazaria a toda su ya vetusta flota de DC-10 Se trataba del MD-11 ya que este tenia el fuselaje alargado y mayor capacidad de pasajeros que el anterior pues que lastima si CAP no hubiese regalado Viasa a los españoles de Iberia ya hubiesemos visto los MD-11con los colores de nuestra aerolinea 7 estrellas

The 7-C with the cargo doors pictured at ~1:00, was operated in Miami, Florida in the 1980s where I was working at the time. The best one of the three that we operated.
