They probably are in the top 3 of rhythm sections in all of rock for me. Chi's base some how harmonizes and leads while Abe has the best fills I've ever heard in my life. You can hear the hip hop and RnB influence without going full rap rock.

Genesis were self indulgent and helped usher in the punks... really?! FFS, Genesis were many things but "self indulgent" they were not. That would be Yes and the bloated monstrosity that is "Tales from Topographic Oceans," long regarded and acknowledged as the utter nadir of Prog music... and I say that as a fan of Yes, as well as Genesis, Floyd, Oldfield, Tangerine Dream etc. You teach drumming and say you love Collins but dismiss the most technically, artistically, musically, and emotionally brilliant phase of his storied career... you're 'avin' a laugh mate!

He's keeping time with one hand on the high hat, and inserting fills with the other. He's incredible. Notice that Mike's head is bobbing in time. He's assisting Fish in keeping time. Individually and collectively, they are some of the best, well-rounded musicians in music. Only hardcore jazz artists are in that league.

Lover You Should've Come Over is the best song ever recorded...in my humble opinion.

Pete Thomas in the 90s was a big session drummer who often worked on albums produced by Mitchell Froom (who could call on the best in the business; Jerry Marotta and Jim Keltner also showed up on albums he produced). He was on my favourite Richard Thompson record (Mirror Blue) and one of Suzanne Vega's from the same era (Nine Objects of Desire).

I saw an interview where, if I recall correctly, he said he had to learn to relax in order to be able to perform this. So looking relaxed isn't just for show, it was a necessity.

No shame in saying Phil Collins made you want to play drums. Listen to his work with Genesis. He's one of the best rock drummers of all time.

What really inspired me to play was the church drummer when I was little I would imitate and watch him the most My dads a pastor so when he would have music practice he’d bring me along and I’d just sit and watch Eventually he drummer went to college and the bassist asked my dad if I wanted to play… rest is history Mind you he wasn’t super technical but he had conviction that held my attention

Trey has said the secret to their success and longevity is that the four of them are still friends. Simply stated and makes alot of sense to me on many levels. The absence of ego in how they treat and relate to each other. That's the foundation they have bloomed from. Just on paper itself they have been one of the most successful bands to ever exist. Not to mention their beautiful artistry over this period. In 2024, 41 years later, they are hardly a nostalgia act. It's all about Love. Love is always the answer.

I’m early Gen X and my first drum set teacher was an old school Big Band guy who smoked Winston cigarettes in the practice room during my lessons. I guess this was around 1985 and those old timers were the norm with drum teachers. Anyway, he was a hard ass who would glare if I messed up on the page to practice pad. He would then say, “If you didn’t practice, don’t go wasting my time”. I was 15 and couldn’t deal…I ended up quitting his lessons. Now that I’m older, I wish I could have sucked it up..I’d probably be a lot better….that said, he was an a-hole.
