The poem ‘The Laburnum Top’ is written by Ted Hughes. It is about the relationship between the Laburnum tree and the Goldfinch bird. The tree is yellow, silent, and death-like, but it comes alive thanks to the Goldfinch and her young ones. The yellow-coloured bird has her nest on the tree, and there she feeds her babies. But as soon as the bird flies away in the sky, the tree becomes silent and death-like again.

Some other literary devices that were unintentionally excluded from the lecture are Metaphor, Symbolism, Imagery & Irony. Symbolism - The crow & hemlock tree are symbols of sadness and depression. The snow is a positive symbol of nature. Together, they create a positive change in the poet. Metaphor - “Dust of Snow”. The snowflakes have been compared to dust, hence a metaphor. Imagery - The poem depicts a beautiful picture or image in our minds. Irony - The crow, an inauspicious being, brings about a positive change in the poet, hence an irony.
