I was brought up in Maitland 70s and 80s. I remember so much the oak factory in Hexham and the diner. The best milkshakes, ice cream and the hotdog the lot and burgers. So good. Going to the speedway and fishing in the river. Always stopped there. Until it closed.

I was on duty at Stockton Boiler House , All power out , no steam for the laundry and Kitchen but ni damage or threats of Boiler explosions ; An even I've never forgotten !

Thanx so much for posting HUGE MEMORIES!!! Well I was 13 and living in Beresfield and this is one of the biggest memories of childhood, if not my life. My sister had been taken shopping by my aunty to Hamilton! Obviously happening in the days before mobiles so my mother was in a panic as we had heard on the battery operated WIRELESS (yes batteries and a wireless was all was needed to get important news 🤔) that Beaumont st had been hit hard. It took till the afternoon for them to arrive back safely, the biggest thing though was I ruined my brand new sound system pulling it out of the wall as my wardrobe was going to fall on it! 🥺 The community was all out in the street listening to the wireless and supporting each other.

me and my dad were first responders from Carrington 252firestation I got to the station within 10mins rang Newcastle and was turned out to the workers club I had to wait for dad(who was captain) I said get in get dressed n the way "the workers clubs fell down" that seemed to be an understatement from the destruction and loss of life which i witnessed on that day and can never unsee

i was lying in bed and thought somebody was shaking my bed so it woke me up.

That lady who grew up in Beresfield, so did my Dad. 5:55. LOL!!! well my Dad kicked that one outta the ball park. He became a solicitor.😄

The best milk in the world. Nothing bets the oak milkshakes or the milk in the cartons. I always buy a Ice Coffee milk when I go past a petrol station. I think they should be at all service stations around Australia and the world.

I remember this I was at work .in Gosford. We felt it .our boss got his brief case and took of left us behind 🙄 I looked at one of the other girls she looked at me and we where like 🤷‍♀️ we where only young next thing it’s over back to work .our boss came back and we where like 🙄😂 some boss .

I was working in North Sydney. I had slipped out of the office for a coffee. On the way back I called into a CD shop. Suddenly all of the CDs fell of the racks. The shop assistant looked at me and asked “what did you just do?”. By the time I got back to the office people were warning of aftershocks.

Seen and loved this exhibition, well done to Luke! Quite an interesting gallery of characters and stories behind the captured portraits. My favourite was the story of Greg, the homeless man.

Newcastle Museum where you learn more by staying home.

I remember it very well. I lived in Wollongong and when the quake hit Newcastle I was making my son's bed and a very large woman I had the displeasure of knowing stormed down my hallway towards me. I didn't think it was an earthquake rumbling the walls, I thought it was her stamping feet. No it was a horrible time for the people of Newcastle and I hope it never happens again.

I was working in the boiler house at Stockton Hospital , and the effects of this event has never left me , although there was now injuries where I worked , and little damage to anything , the after effects will die with me !

jeez I won't forget this to quick I was in east Maitland at the time and only a kid as well I remember everything started shaking,lights went out,things flying g of shelves etc I landed on my butt when the ground started shaking dad picked me up by my shirt n got me and grandmother out
