Fresh food seems very inexpensive to us: 100 Sri Lankan rupees for 1 kg of sweet potatoes = $0.33 USD (17 cents per pound). .5 kg cabbage for 0.26 USD, eggplant is 0.43 for 1.1 lb. Not so cheap, though, when you consider the average daily wage is the equivalent to $3.61 USD. The minimum wage is only$1.64/day. I would have to eat a lot of sweet potatoes.

actually the real min wage is much higher, maybe 0.1% of population actually lives on that min wage, most people do more than 1 job if they are in that wage group. But it is still very low compared to the big economies
