How do you understand anything N5J is saying? years of practice?
Experience. I barely heard him say "the W4 station". I realized, "hey, that's me!" so I came back again. then I heard my full callsign come back from him. The contact was noisy and hard to hear but after awhile you know the pattern and it gets easier. 73 de W4EEY

Either a completely jakey set-up or not well shown or both.I will be building a portable power unit that will run an entire job site and can have a job office on board. Pull it up on site, hook to water, drop it, let it auto level, drop the stairs and it finds the sun and you are set.

Might as well not even watch this video. If you do not have their exact calculator. The problem is not only do you have to buy a 20 to $30 calculator. But you're going to have to memorize how to program that thing. on top of all your other test questions you're trying to memorize. Why?? Because when you go in to do your test the VE goes into your calculator and make sure everything's cleared out of your calculator. Two problems with this. One if you have it memorized how to do your calculator 100%. It's worthless to even buy. Two not everybody can afford the calculator. Right away. And they don't show you how to do it with any other calculator. Major failure. All the other videos are good to watch though. I think maybe they need to look at this. As a failure. I have five calculators scientific. And yet I got to go buy another calculator. Show me how to do it on a Texas instrument it - 30X a or Casio FX 991 n . I really enjoyed their videos so hope this gets fixed in their new class.
Thanks for commenting. Students are welcome to use any calculator they wish. It is a "time thing" for us. We don't have the time in class to go over every type of calculator during the two hour class. So we standardized on the TI 36xPro. I know that Dave has worked with students offline after class to use the calculator that they have. The 36xPro has the advantage of displaying an equation exactly as it appears in the book. You don't have to worry about the order of operations as you do with some calculators. For students intimidated by the math this helps. And we also provide tips and tricks so that you can approximate an answer (you may not need a calculator at all). We will likely stay with the 36xPro. Is that an LC filter in the schematic on your display?
Yes. It is the antenna tuner built into the RF-Kit Amplifier. The LC components make up an L-Network to match the amplifier output impedance with the antenna system's input impedance. The amplifier tunes automatically at a touch of a virtual button. Good catch! 73 de W4EEY

I think there is a copy error at 38:50 - Should be Ger3anium and Si7icon, where 3=m and 7=L (turned). Besides that, I am learning and awful lot. Taking notes on everything, as it's very interesting to me.

At 55:00 you are working on question G5B12 from the pool. I can calculate the voltage that you got, but I don’t understand why you do not convert it to the RMS value. How do we know that this voltage is already RMS?
Power is expressed as RMS by convention. So no conversion is necessary. 73 de W4EEY

This is great, finally found some focused study prep for General. I’m about half way in, but have a tip. For cutoff between LSB and USB, 9MHz is useful, but also 33.3meters is easy to remember. It’s close to square root of 9.

Small world, I was on the USS Saipan during the war, we would pick up Europeans from Monrovia Liberia with our helicopters, put as many as we could on the ship and take them to Free Town Sierra Leone so they could get back to their countries. Charles Taylor was from Detroit Michigan.
I'd forgotten the Saipan. Your helicopters took out my boss (Station Manager Bill Connolly) and his Facilities Supervisor. They were the last two VOA Officers in country. I was evacuated a few weeks earlier via a commercial flight from Roberts Field to Freetown. Thanks for commenting! 73 de W4EEY
The RF out meter on the radio display may show transmit out of band, but it actually is not. Trust the external meter, not the display.

I was running 1500 watts to my Hex Beam. Ravi was only running 300 watts to his hex beam (per his QRZ page). So with the right propagation your 80 watts might get through. It was especially nice that he called for North American stations. Thanks for watching. 73 de W4EEY
