Selling the herd - Down on the Farm special feature
Camerawork by Mum, Editing by Nick.
Following Dad’s decision to retire from full-time farming at the end of September 2018, the suckler herd of cows and calves was sold in June. We started breeding the herd over 34 years ago with six original cows and their bloodline continues today.
The cows and calves had to be separated for their own safety and comfort during the journey to market and whilst in the holding pens. They were reunited in the sale ring and sold together. None of the cows and calves went alone to their new homes, all the buyers bought at least three lots, so they remained with familiar faces.
