6:18:00 ... but did you THREATEN to overrule him?
the day the uk got sold off to the lowest bidder
This is one of those moments in history where you will remember where you were at that time, and always will, for the rest of your life
If only people knew the damage these scum would do , Blair is toxic
Delusional
3:28:40 Dave Miliband trying to get on telly 😂
woah look #Election97 it's crazy how old Twitter is
4:21:42 - all about meeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
I have to skip this declaration every time I rewatch this election. Can't stand that bloke.
@@andygordon2265absolutely. Yet in 1992 when Laing defended the seat successfully for the conservatives he cared not a jot for the whoops and clapping when he read the result out!
Recently watched 92 election. Definitely different vibe this one. I am expecting 2024 election to be very similar to this.
The guy on 12:40 + must be bent! A shop keeper who has just bought a brand new gold Rolls Royce and now put £ 30,000 on the Conservatives to win the election at odds of 4/9 which basically means he would win £4,000 for every £9,000 he bet so winning him just over £ 13,500 with his original stake £43,500. His shop looks tiny so curious to know how he could afford it 🤔
When we were still proud of our great country.....What the hell has happened just look at us now! Overwhelmed desperate and scared.
Oh the poor middle class doctors partner how dare people’s deaths upset his travel plans and affect his business . A$$hole
Loved Bradshaw’s speech at 5:25:00 brilliant 👏🏻
The start of tory rule for 18 years till 1997
have you got the actual service?
It's been blocked by CZcams unfortunatly.
@@andygordon2265 Is it possible for you to upload it on the Internet Archive? I would advise to upload ALL of your videos there, otherwise they might disappear forever!
Lovely moment at 5:52 when Bob McKenzie celebrates the accuracy of the swingometer over the computer
As a 13-yr old this was the first election results programme I ever saw., watching on a black and white portable in my bedroom. The break at 38:50 was to the Mike Yarwood show, with I remember, Abba as musical guests, thanking everyone for all the music. There seemed to be an air of excitement, even celebration to the evening which, for someone from a Labour household, seemed depressing. I was sick off school and meant to be asleep. Just as they went back live to the election studio after the break I heard my mum coming up the stairs so turned the tv off and feigned sleep. Unfortunately, I didn't wake up again until the following morning when I went downstairs where my mum forlornly told me that Thatcher had won. As I was off school I got to see the all late results coming through ( I remember Shirley Williams´ for example) and all the interviews and analyses. Despite the result, loved it, and haven´t missed an election night since.. So many thanks for posting!
My favourite bit was when John Curtice said that the result shows more that the electorate didn't want the Tories than wanting Labour.
One right wing government to another right wing government.
I voted Referendum Party in that election.
Oh the nostalgia of people chain smoking in doors on live tv!
Talk about graceless and classless in defeat. Says a lot about this has been.
Same result again please for next GE 🤞
UK General election in 2024 be like:
BBC 1997 Exit Poll (Actual Result): Con: 29% (31%) ☑Lab: 47% (43%) Lib-Dems: 18% (17%) Others: 6% (9%) ☑Result: Lab Landslide at 175 seat majority. (Lab Landslide at 179 seat majority). Swing: 13% from Con to Lab - (10% Swing from Con to Lab). Lab/Con vote share difference: 12% History Making Past Events: -1983: Con won / Con/Lab vote share difference: 14% -1966: Lab won with 48% of vote share. -1945: Lab won / Lab/Con vote share difference: 12% -1945: Lab won - +239 seats - Lab record -1931: Con won / Con/Lab vote share difference: 24% -1931: Con won - +210 seats - Con record
I’m having to watch all of this again, as where we are in todays politics takes me back to the 80’and the 90’s where we were in a quagmire just like now.Hopefully when sunak has the balls to call a general election we can do it all again.
The law allows for it to be held as late as December 2024 Not holding an election now is not a question of bravery but of logic. If Sunak wants to win he must wait for better polling
His money and rolls was safe. Maggie didn't let him down. The Tories these days are piss weak.
Watching this in 2023, expecting similar results and discussions next year!
thank so much good blrssing you todary am?
lol seems nobody thought Paddy Ashdown was in with a chance .
At 3:20:40 when Clive Myrie took over until the News at Six, I wonder if that’s when Huw and the BBC first leant that Her Majesty The Queen had died (I believe it was at this point when the Black Ties and formal attire came in), or if it was simply to allow Huw a bit of a break as he has been on air broadcasting for over 3 hours without a break by that stage, since the end of the Lunchtime news at 1.45pm? Thanks for uploading this Andy. This moment really was one of those “remember where I was and what I was doing” type moments and one of those we might not ever witness again in our lifetimes. Thanks for preserving this incredibly important moment of history.

What point did BBC 2 join the coverage?

"Keeping a rather sickly grin on his face." 1:41:30. Hilarious journalism.
2017 was a horrible year for the UK.
Mohn Jajor
This must have cost an absolute fortune to stage. Just imagine how many camera operators, vision mixers, sound recordists, aston technicians working with super computers, admin teams collating the results and in constant contact with probably hundreds of galleries. And there's Dimbleby doing his incredible duck/swan impression, calm on the surface but desperately swimming underneath. Poor David Butler, there to fill the gaps but the other David had it all under control and visibly tolerates his 'co-host' at best.
Were you still up for Portillo - the book of the night
So odd seeing how calm they all are about it like tories immediately like oh ok guess we’ve lost, very interesting when you compare it to labour in 2019
I had to look up 'gone for a Burton', which Michael Cockerell said (3:12:12). It means "meet with disaster; be ruined, destroyed, or killed." It was popularized during World War II and there are several theories about how it originated.
Labour in 2025.
Did anyone on this show realise just how much UK would change in the next 20 years after this election
Anyone know what happened in the abortion case that was adjourned???
I was at Michael Portillo's count in Enfield Southgate in '97 when he was kicked out by voters. It was a great moment. One that was emblematic of a night when the UK changed for the better. Labour in govt 1997-2010 did a lot of good. We became a fairer, richer, more equal society and economy. There was, of course, much still to do then. Even more, now, after 13 disastrous years of Tory austerity politics and the Brexit retreat from engagement with Europe
Amen
06:46:00 is this guy a robot? I've never heard such a convincing case.
6:09:34 "The old left is a diminishing force in Labour's ranks". Oh just wait until a certain Corbyn comes trotting along 😂
God Bless Labour. Here's to another 🦣 majority in 2025! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🌹 🌹 🌹
The beginning of the end. At least Robin Day was on cigar duty.
Fiona Bruce. What a hottie back then!
