This research could make elections fairer
How can we ensure the redistricting process is fair in a highly polarized political environment? HKS Professor Benjamin Schneer and colleagues developed a new approach that could help break stalemates in the redistricting process, without the parties having to forego their self-interest.

    So much for the show of humane behavior I am glad Thank you so much for the humanitarian work. I'm afraid they don't know your plea for humanity. They are more cruel than humane They like it more ego pride Greed is covered. They are not responsible for the brutal killing and looting. They don't like the court. They do not like the decision of the principle of justice. They want to be above the law.

      Stop blaming everything on the devil. Humans are taught by their families how to behave. They hate & they love who they choose. Learning about real people & struggles is the only way out of this. Praying didn’t do a d*** thing for centuries.

    Another area of housing policy that has worsened the racial wealth gap over the past century is single-family zoning laws. They have created an artificial housing shortage, especially of affordable housing, and have always been designed to keep certain people out. And certain areas have had explicitly racist racial covenants barring people of color from buying homes.

    • @michaelk4295
      @michaelk4295 Před 23 dny

      The combined population of those states is far from a majority of the country’s, so how would they have all the power? More to the point, with a national popular vote no state would have any power, people would. Those big states would have far, far less power than they do now, because rather than the plurality winner getting ALL of the EC votes for a state, all votes would be counted towards the final result. So instead of 55 EC votes from CA going to the Democrat and 0 going to the Republican, the margin would just be X million votes more to the D than the R. That’d be a much smaller percentage of the total votes than 55/538.

    The usa is not a parliamentary system. This solves nothing and can't be correctly applied. And this is one issue algorithms are very capable of addressing, which is something that could itself be codified in law. Also, the chicken-and-egg issue of why would a gerrymander-dependent coalition support an effective change to rule making still exists? Would this supreme court even allow something like this passed on a federal level to go into effect?

    • @cykonot
      @cykonot Před měsícem

      Could be novel in a parliamentary system. But would it be ideal? Presumably some algorithm was used to judge the resultant districts, not just vibes, yes? Which means some "ideal" would have been chosen to work towards as a goal in the paper. Why not just use the "ideal" algorithm, and put that into law? Like, quantifying this work "objectively" would imply that its a solved problem, no?

  • @TheElizondo88
    @TheElizondo88 Před měsícem

    Although it sounds smart and does solve most of the issues... I don't think that this addresses the root of the problem, which is the institutionalization of the two party binary. Under this format you are straight up giving the two main parties control anything short of most compact districts with a ranked choice voting isn't really solving the problem.

  • @foxbat1766

      The EC makes electoral fraud easier. They just need to fake a small number of votes in a key state to swing everything. With a national popular vote, they really would need millions of fake votes to ensure victory, and that would be much, much easier to discover.

Forcing people to vote leads to votes being mainly protests, leading to more and more splits in the population and getting us no government for ages when they cant find an accord. As it is, smaller, less populated states have entirely too much control because of the Electoral College. This explains why the Republicans love it so much. 1 man 1 vote makes perfect sense. Why should my vote be ignored because I live in a red state? Without the electoral college we could have avoiced a Trump presidency and Bush JR and his illegal war and astounding debt.

    Learn a trade, instead. If you don’t come from wealth, academia is a fruitless endeavor. You know how much elevator repair techs make? Depending on the city you’re in, the base pay is 80K and that’s right out of high school. If you have a few years of experience, that amounts to over 100K with a pension. It blows my mind how many people don’t know of this and STILL choose university over an in demand skill such as being a plumber or electrician.
