The Fender, Luddendenfoot on the Rochdale Canal
zhlédnutí 490Před 9 lety
The Fender was installed on a previously derelict, overgrown site in the village of Luddendenfoot. The village is dominated by a main road which slices through its heart so the intention was to create a peaceful public space next to the Canal. As a result of the project, many more boaters and walkers/cyclists are stopping at the village.

Looks at that jungle 😮😮😮 it's rich in nutrition , unfortunately you make fertilizer 🎉as ash form .
I know how to make it better call me now now
Very low quality charcoal. More like burnt wood than carbonized charcoal
Ingenious! That's surely a remarkable method to burn charcoal. Great work 👊👊💯💯
That s the old school way of making charcoal. Nowadays it is made in steel kilns.
Thanks for that.
Nice ....Mine went off😂 Time to try again
Woodlands weren't managed by putting out char with water :o
What type of tree is used?
Colliers in the early days would have as many as five of these burns going at once and would stay up for two days putting out flair ups as they burnt
Brother you should have closed 🔐 that only hole with mud or what so ever before pouring water into it,🙏👌
Not a fan of this method. Let it burn all the way out, no need to add water, This is certainly not the preferred way.

I know how to make more than that
Good
For small amounts like that it's better to dig a pit to burn in and cover that
I am studying charcoal making for use in the tropics. My idea is to gather biomass and make charcoal and plow it into poor soil - make 'biochar'. This takes carbon that has been fixed in fast-growing wood and brush and converts it into a non-biodegradable form. It will stay in the soil for centuries before returning to the atmosphere; much better than if the wood had decomposed in the forest within a decade. Thanks for the video; but no turf here; I will have to devise an alternative cover (but I DO have brackens!)
There are many people already making charcoal in the tropics using lowtech traditional methods, you should have a look at those. I've seen quite a few videos on CZcams from Southeast Asia, many use a small pit so you could look at doing that. There is also a document from some organisation. (don't think it is the FAO but it could be) showing plans for making a steel kiln for developing countries
How were the forests maintained back the?
Cutting trees is not as easy as most people think. But yeah I wonder too lol
Good job but using water isn’t a good idea and that would make the coal with a lower quality... I’m actually using soft sands instead of water and that’s perfectly working well... but it’s a great job and glad to watch it 👏🏼
....and you definitely don’t add water...ye gods...🙄
That's really going to make the blacksmith mad! When that wet charcoal start popping and throwing embers all over his shop
Is it good to cover it more to starve with oxygen and finally extinguished the fire and cool down.?
what is that? 2:47 I want to know the name
Redy Efendi it’s a pieces of rolled grass... you can just cover it with soils instead of that and it gives the same results, just make sure to cover it well so there’s no oxygen going in.
@@s74rrow terimakasih
You leave it covered for 1 wk..and it cools down nuturally and get more charcoal
please explain
yes i will create a blog about that
Looks like im the first comment hi kids lol

I use to live there 5 years ago and loved that place i use to go to the park behind this
This was the reason there used to be large animals in the forest , the dence underbrush was managed the braken used , and the ash generated an alkaline soil , but now our water is acidic our soil us acidic , the air has too little carbon dioxide and plants starve while being acidified, and large ruminants are no more ,
Guys you have to work harder!
Thumb up for making me laugh.
Erhmmeh...
How proudly they are telling how to make charcoal ignoring unsensly the horror of destroying the forests greenery and nature
then stop buying products like sofas tables chairs beds etc because they all need wood and other natural resources
O please stop educating people by making charcoal.i am a victim of this practice.i cannot sleep and often get throat infections by the smell of the smoke thus formed.in my neighbourhood people make this charcoal very often, even now when i am writing this comment, and this has literally made my life hell.🙏🙏🙏🙏
Did anyone listen police siron 3:50.
Now that was a beautiful job. An almost no real lose good work. Covering it with turf kept the burn under control. Very well done. Thank You Loader.
:)

This is a traditional process as Female genital mutilation is.
What kind of carpet is it
Looked like sod. Like instant lawn they use in subdivisions.
lord the poor trees
Off cut branches were used...clearly see the diameter when loading the heap...prob laying around on forest floor

not how to make charcoal!
This is how it was made in the middle ages.
@@resmarted They missed a few steps. But they were close.
no f surpises there, done too quickly
you can just seal it up and let it cool down overnight so you don't need all that water.
Hey do I know all about charcoal Pls can u say more about its market
Excellent guide to LBJs, thank you
I'm wanting to get hold of Kevin Jaundrell (Head Game Keeper) do you have any way of contacting him? I spoke to him yesterday and would like to speak to him about something. Thanks
