🚘💀Rider or Die 2: A Show & Tell Of My RWS Deck Collection
Can't believe it's been almost half a year since I made the first one of these. Thought it was high time I shared a few more in my RWS deck collection, this time looking at decks that redraw the Pamela Coleman Smith artwork in their own styles, some updating the imagery for modern times, but keeping the composition generally the same/recognisable as a Smith-Waite deck.

Deck Comparison: How Does Tarot of the Sweet Twilight Compare to the RSW? Is it a Rider Deck?
zhlédnutí 303Před 2 měsíci
I recently acquired the Tarot of the Sweet Twilight. It's an unsual deck that really appeals to the 90s teen in me. 🚘💀Rider or Die: A Look at Some of my RWS Decks (Part 1?) #RiderOrDie
How fun. I didn’t see the first part… gonna have to go check that one out too. 😊❤
I really related to your closing ramble about rambling. I also find myself put off by my own blabbering. But the flip side is that I love your monologuing, so keep it up!
Haha, glad some folks enjoy them. :)
Love this so much, Kelly! I missed the original, but am off to view that now. I love the Melanated Classic, had it but gave it to a friend who was just starting out learning tarot. (I want it back, please!!!! 🤦🏻♀️😂🤦🏻♀️) The Herbal Tarot was one of my first decks which I bought directly from Michael Tierra at an herbal conference. I couldn’t believe there was a tarot deck with herbal correspondences! I still have it all these decades later. I love how you compared the cards at the end, fun and insightful. Feeling a VR coming on! It feels like whenever I watch one of your tags I get inspired to do a VR!!!! Great video, thanks for sharing. I’m glad you continue to speak out about the importance of representation in modern tarot decks, with you on that . It really is important. ❤
Hi Liz. That's so cool about The Herbal Tarot being one of your first decks, especially as you bought it directly from the creators. x
I have seen the Fyodor Pavlov tarot so many times and I didn't think it was for me until now. Now it's on my list to eventually buy.
It is so gorgeous and the little hardback book that comes with it is really great.
Also, This Might Hurt Tarot is the most relatable deck for public readings! But I looooooove Moon Baby
I can see that about This Might Hurt, for sure. Yeah, Moon Baby is lush too.
That herbal tarot is so cute, I've nearly got it in the past but I'm so picky about herbalism resources!
Yeah, same. I nerded out hard when I got the deck and created one of those index card folders with every tarot card and all of the herbal associations I could find for each, along with my own. Lol. Like you say, 'Research is a hobby'. x
I bloody LOVE the herbal tarot. I got it recently and I’m enjoying it so much. The proper guidebook that you can get for it is so informative. I personally love the 70s/80s art for it and just how funny some of the plant placements are (the massive garlic in the tower always makes me laugh). It’s what I wanted The Herbcrafters Tarot to be for me in terms of the connection I feel to it.
I love the massive plants too. The artwork is very charming and yeah, the seperate guidebook is SO good, refer to it often, even for other decks. I am still undecided about The Herbcrafters Tarot, maybe one day I'll give it a go. Thank you so much for watching. x
Frosting might be a better word.😅
I'm pretty sure Stasia B. is bi by the by...🎉
I don’t know anything about herbs really, but I’ve always loved the look of the Herbal Tarot. Those colors are just lovely, and I love how the large plants make the people look small :)
Haha, yeah, the big plants are cool! It's got a certain charm to it, that's for sure.
Hey there KB - I purchased the Melanated tarot when you first showed it because I thought it was really cool. When I received it and started to play with it I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the characters looked like a lot of the people I grew up with!! That's really really cool!! btw are you familiar with the " Movie Tarot" by Diana McMahon Collision-it uses modern movie stars in its depictions and it's fun trying to guess who the star is. It has a cool tag line on the box "BE GUIDED BY THE STARS" - fantastic for movie buffs!
I love that you had that experience with the Melanated Classic. This is why we need all sorts of decks for folks to enjoy. I heard of the Movie Tarot but I haven't really looked at it much.
Nice collection. That Prague deck, Gorge! 😂😂😂SPRITZ🎉OmGoddess thank you, made my night. Love crazy fun decks like that.
The Playful Heart is such a sweet and fun deck, it brightens any day! Thank you for watching. :)
I finally finished watching this now that I was able to order the deck. I’m so excited about it. It looks incredible. 💜🌈 I’m just starting to get into the Marseille and I definitely prefer Charlie’s style and colours to the originals.
Isn't it fab? I hope you enjoy yours just as much as I have been loving mine. Did you pick up a copy of the guidebook that you can buy seperately?
I'm playing with RWS, but finding TdM easier to learn because there are fewer resources available.
That's a really good point. I think that was partly what made TdM easier for me. At first I had two books and that was it for a good while. I certainly overwhelmed myself with all of thr RWS resources I ended up trying to read/work through when I was leanring.
What a fabulous pub you've created, Kelly! I absolutely adore this video. Thank you so, so much. As a Marseille lover, I also agree with many of your choices. Greetings from Spain
Haha, thank you! If only it was a real place all of us tarot folks could meet up in and geek out over cartomancy with one another. :)
@@lilpinkbear It would be really fantastic!
"A wax seal always feels a bit luxe dunnit?" big agree, love any little details like that. What a treat to have a second instalment, thank you so much, I loved seeing all these gorgeous pip decks!
Haha, it's true though innit? Glad you enjoyed my utterly indulgent second VR to your fab tag. x
uhmmm I also think pink edging would be cute for the Gay Marseille, though I love blue&pink together so I may be biased 🤭 That pink Patrick Valenza is 😍 thanks for sharing, this was fun! 🙏😊
Yeah, I think pink 'might' be the way I lean on this one. The Paradoxical Rose Trionfi is stunning, I am so very happy to have it, the colours are just so scrumptious and the artwork just always tickles me.
@@lilpinkbear excited to see what colour you end up choosing 😊🧚♂️
I still remember like it was yesterday when my dad took me to the cinema to see Jurassic Park 🥹 I was 6, and that is when my dinosaur obsession started 🦖 amazing video, I have just started studying Marseille and your videos are one of the reasons why 😂
Wasn't it such a moment in cinema history? Very cool. Awh, I love that I have inspired you to study Marseille, I hope you have fun learning. x
Yes, a walkthrough please! Of the enormous deck😅
The Alchemical Visions one?!
@@lilpinkbear yes 😊
I'm contemplating whether I want to edge the Gay Marseille in sea foam or in lilac, so I am no help there. 😔 Strapping in to watch the whole video, may come back with more comment.
Haha, maybe seafoam, lilac AND pink would be nice!
I have the same version, or at least the same book (eighth printing, 2021.) Got mine in 2022 and 20 years ago this deck would have been just my taste 😅 Still like it though it is a bit cheezy and def not diverse enough. My deck is glossy, but not superglossy, more like the classical llewellyn cardstock?🤔😊
That's interesting about your cardstock. I wonder why mine is so glossy and weird? Ah well, not long now until I get to work with it (October). x
@@lilpinkbear Perfect deck for october🖤 I just ordered the Witch Sister tarot, I’m thinking that will be my autumn go to deck, reading about scotish witchcraft and myth.
I just got this deck too Kelly. The art, colours and less traditional look all spoke to me... But I wondered if perhaps Id have some issues reading with it. Im going to give myself some time to do a more indepth deck study to rrally try and dig in and getbto know it. Tjank you sl much for the comparison. Just what I meeded. 😊 🙌
Oh cool! I hope you enjoy getting to know it. :)
I like most of these pairings, though the Ostara was a bit too busy imho. I didn't cut my Sweet Twilight and never will. But maybe I'll take a dark blue permanent marker and block out some of the titles. Usually I don't mind, though this has a bit many. While I do not tend to pair my decks, this one I sometimes pull 3 cards from and then 3 extra cards with playing cards: Tarot: 1 place I am - 2 challenge/obstacle/chasm/huge river/risk/danger...- 3 place I want to be playing card: 3 cards for the path to go, a bridge, stepping stones... something like that The combi of that surreal Sweet Twighlight deck and plain playing card symbols give me enough of an Alice in Wonderland vibe, that this combi successfully killed my fomo for any Alice deck.
Ooh, your tarot and playing card reading idea is fun. And that's very cool about the combo with the Sweet Twilight gives you Alice in Wonderland vibes.
It's interesting to hear your thoughts on the Anima Mundi deck. I came to this video after having watched your animal decks video, where you also brought it up, and people seemed to agree with you in the comments. I know other people, too, who struggle with the deck. So I feel like I'm the odd one out because I don't struggle with it 😅 I spent 3.5 years with The Wild Unknown (and The Wildwood, to a lesser degree) before I got Anima Mundi at the very start of 2020. My copy is all dinged up now. I've acquired a lot more decks in recent years, most of them heavy on the storytelling, but I find that Anima Mundi just... gets straight to the point. There's no fuss. No searching around. Sometimes it feels like a bummer because the cards will tell me what I already know, and I don't get "anything extra". But other times that's very refreshing, to just get the essence of it. And it's like the cards are saying "why the f you asking us? you already know what's up??" 😂 That can be uplifting and affirmative in and of itself. If I dig deeper and ask more questions, I'll get answers that I perhaps didn't know, and they will be short, sweet, to the point. So I think... Anima Mundi is a deck for me. We're great together. Perhaps Anima Mundi is not a deck for you. That's okay. I got Mary-el back in 2022 and I cannot with that deck. I pull cards and I sit there staring at them like a big f-ing question mark. Yet *I know* other people have amazing reading experiences with that deck without ever having to go to the guidebook for answers. It just be like that with decks sometimes.
It sounds like you have a really lovely bond/connection with the Anima Mundi. I don't know if the deck will ever fully speak to me, like you say, all decks are not fot everyone. Though I guess I hang onto it because it's beautiful but also because I have had decks suddenly speak to me after nothing and I have had decks that sang for me no longer read well. Maybe one day...
I think you got your Wild Unknown Tarot in 2015 🙂 I *know* I got mine in 2016. It was independently published, but some cards are different from your edition. My independent edition is identical to the mass market, *except* that Justice is black and white in mine. So logic would indicate that you got yours sometime before 2016, then Kim Krans made some changes and released a new edition, which I bought in 2016, then it went mass market with the rainbow Justice card as a last change.
Oh this is very interesting! Thank you for this information, I didn't realise Kim Krans tweaked her indie version before the mm one went out.
You’re so good at picking out colours that work together, this was so much fun!
Thank you lovely, glad you had fun. x
This was fun! 😊 thanks for sharing Kelly! 🙏💖
You're welcome, glad to hear you enjoyed it.
I lobbed those borders off Sweet Twilight in an instant! 😜 I’m surprised your ✂️ hasn’t made an appearance yet 😉 Zeke’s and Titania are destined to be together! 😍
Haha, yeah, maybe one day I will get the scissors out, I think I would want to know the deck better beforehand to avoid confusion. I agree about Zeke's and Titania, a bright and fun duo! Thank you for watching Simon. x
I lobbed those borders off Sweet Twilight in an instant! 😜 I’m surprised your ✂️ hasn’t made an appearance yet 😉
Hope you are well ❤
I'm ok, plodding along. :)
I miss your face Kelly 😊
She gotten fat probably
So fun! Love seeing all your lovely pairings 💓
Awh, thank you so much Quynn, I love playing with deck combos. Glad you enjoyed it too. x
Love your picks. The tarot of the magical forest looks so much better trimmed. 😊
Thank you! It really does sing without its borders.
😂 you had no intention of liking the deck.
I had a feeling that I might be disappointed in it but my hope was that it would win me over. I'm holding off until October to work with it but even if it doesn't do anything for me, I'm still holding out hope for the guidebook being a winnder. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. :)
That was so much fun, Kelly! I am definitely going to do a VR and was thinking of my choices as you went through the prompts. We have a couple of overlaps. Thanks for sharing! Really enjoyed ❤❤
Awh, thanks Liz! Looking foward to your video! x
Fantastic. Thanks for the upload.
I've almost pulled the trigger on this deck for years, but the fact that there's no diversity really bugs me, I feel that I'd never use it over the Tarot Interdit 🤔 thanks for sharing your thoughts on it 🙏
It's such a shame that the deck falls down so badly on diversity, I could forgive the cheesy artwork if it was more well rounded. I'm holding off final judgement until I have worked with it but I'm waiting until spooky season to do so. We need more vamp decks!
This is great! 🍻 I will totally include your bonus prompt in my VR. Two videos? Amazing -- because nothing goes with a cocktail like another cocktail. 🍸I am going to like hearing people's drink tastes in this one - ours tastes intersect at Old Fashioned, which somehow doesn't surprise me.
Yay, thanks Laura! Looking forward to hearing your replies to this, it's a lot of fun. Oh cool, love that you enjoy an Old Fashioned too, it's a classic for good reason! x
Hey kelly, I really enjoyed this video. can't wait to see the Marseille version. Im tempted to do a VR 🤎
Thank you lovely! Imogen knocked it out of the park with such a fun tag. Definitely worth doing! :)
Hey, Kelly! This video was so much fun. I love your enthusiasm. I relate to what you said about the Year in the Wildwood - I think following the book too strictly actually impeded my bonding with the deck. I did finish it, but I learned through the process that I much prefer short, intense studies over extended ones.
Yeah, I think I'm the same, I need short bursts that utilise my enthusiasm before my energy burns out and my focus moves onto something else. I've already fallen behind a bit with the pick up since making this video, I've been so busy that by the time I sit down before bed, I'm too knackered to tackle the prompts. Hoping I can just be more kind to myself this time around and just take it at the pace that works for me. Thank you for sharing your experience of it. x
