The Daredevils of D-Day - Part 2
In the late hours of hours of June 5th, 1944 six Horsa gliders, towed by Halifax bombers made their way across the channel. Inside the lead glider, codenamed Chalk 91, sat 30 men readying themselves for one of the most daring missions of D-Day.
Little did the men realise that the next 24 hours would turn into a desperate battle for survival, as they became surrounded, deep behind enemy lines attacked by tanks, snipers and the full might of the Nazi army.
Sadly, some would never see home again. These soldiers wore the maroon berets of the airborne forces, known to enemy as The Red Devils. To us, they have become known as The Dare Devils of D-Day

Just came across this video, and when I saw Bruce Crompton I was straight in there, Love this guy, combat dealers was a drug to me, I knew he had a bad accident from parachuting but didn’t realise it was as serious as he explained, keep your eyes on him Sue he’s just has expensive has a tank, mind you he’s built like one, keep doing what you’re doing Bruce 👍👍❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍

we need programs like this to keep our identity as a nation alive , I have always had a keen interest in both world wars mainly ww2 my dad served in the second & like Bruces friend was at Dunkirk (BEF) and seen first hand the horrors of those who frightened beyond belief , my mum was German she was living in the Rhur district which as you know was targeted heavily she has seen both horrors , humility & suffered much so I love listening & reading stories of the everyman who lived & served on both sides , program like yours is in my opinion vital to keep history alive therefore I thank you
Fan-flipping-tastic I didn't know about the Avro museum at Woodford and I'll be visiting that as it only an hour away.... Hope I can get to the USAAF museum at Parham too when I'm over in Suffolk next...

Love Bruce. Excellent. But if I can be pedantic. the first version WW2 German helmet is an M35, not 38. There was 35, then 40, then 42.
You’re quite right - the M38 was the first German paratroopers helmet. Good spot.
