    I've had the pleasure of driving quite a few of these over the years, and has already been said on here, they are simply the best gearbox ever, these modernised automatic boxes are a pile of shite! The only problem with them, is when they get abused by Muppets who end up with the gears being stripped, simply because they haven't been either shown or taught how to use the box. I used to drive tanker's, and one of my motors that I drove had the Eaton twin-splitter in it, and they were a breeze to use, they allowed you far more control over the tank, even when I had a full 26 ton's of liquid sloshing around inside the tank. These modernised automatic boxes are terrible for tanker work, especially those without baffles, having the box jumping up and down whilst trying to pull away soon turns the air blue inside the cab! Having to use manual kind of defeats the whole idea of it being an automatic box... I do admit that I have no idea what the latest generation is like, having been out of the cab for nearly ten years, so who knows, they may be a lot better, but I know what I'd rather use any day of the week! 😁

    Great gearbox in the day . In over 30 yrs of driving I have had a few . But for everybody whining about automated boxes ... you are not using them correctly . It is nothing like the auto in your car with a Torque converter. It is a manual box .. with a clutch .. with a box of tricks nailed on top. In certain situations you need to use manual mode ... oh btw the twin split in essence is a semi auto as you only need to dip the clutch starting off and stopping.

  • @Palestina.non.grata86

    Wish I knew how to use an Twinsplitter. Only manual I've ever driven was a '56 plate DAF CF with a 16-speed ZF gearbox, smooth as hell when done right, which I'm told is child's play. Then again, never driven a Foden or an ERF so far. This shifting is badass, not a single drop on the clutch. So cool!

    • @timbotrucker
      @timbotrucker Před 2 lety

      Twinsplitters are not that hard really - it’s actually easier to change without using the clutch. You don’t need to change gear this quick - changing down going up a bank when the engine is loosing power is the only time you need a fast down change.

      If you ever get in strife with an "auto" box . You do not know how to use one. Ask a bloke who has been taught properly how to use one & they will teach you. Just like my ol man did with a constant mesh twin split , Brown two spd axle etc when I was 16 . Our old ways are gone now.. My 13 yr old daughter taught me how to use an iphone ffs.. switch off the " I know better" mode whenever a driver trainer rocks up ... The old days are looong gone. Nobody needs to know it ... cos its old tech . How many train drivers can drive a steam train ?. Just accept it .. arguing the toss makes us old blokes look dumb. Remember old times all you want... just quit with the insults ... cos they can be easily turned on you the old dinosaur who dont know how to work an automated box.
