Richard Thompson - A Solitary Life (BBC Documentary)
Hour-long BBC doc on the folk-rock master. I know this is already up in sections but thought some might like the convenience of watching it all in one go - enjoy! :)

Allan Holdsworth performs with bassist Jimmy Johnson & drummer Gary Husband on 2009-10-11 at the Baked Potato in Los Angeles, CA. Posted for pure enjoyment without thought of financial gain. I do not own the copyright in this recording.
They were breaking up and they were on two Island but still made great music together. I saw them around this time at the Paradise in Boston and when Linda wasn't the lead singer she'd head off state. But it was an amazing show.
If only the sound was in sync :(
One of the best concerts I have listened to. I have attended and listened to a lot of multi genre concerts! I want you was an epic !

Rocks so good! This is an Elvis Costello I didn’t hear when these concerts were not available. Fucking awesome!
Wait. TBone brought his emo eyes!
Elvis fuckin rocks
This guy Aaron Holdsworth is a pretty good guitar player.
If Linda is a bit “shrill’ she’s compensating on top of mix. I’ve seen Richard a dozen times. He’s one of the finest guitarists and songwriters of his generation. But, watching this, it’s hard not to feel sorry for Linda. I don’t think Richard looked at her once except to cue her for Lonely Hearts. The rest of the time, he’s playing to the “boys club” with Nicol and Pegg.
Thank you!
Richard looks like Clapton in that baggy suit
LOL
He's better than clapton.

Had the great pleasure of Riichard Linda and Simon at Manchester Uni Folk Club in 1974. In a smallish room folowing on Bright Light Tonight. First half mostly from LP but second half turned in to a rock and roll session never to be forgotten. Lovely Linda was wonderful.
Those were the days of turtle neck jumpers and over-sized jackets.
This is absolutely wonderful, thank you so much for posting. I saw Richard and Linda in the early/mid 70s, as a Fairport fan I expected it to be more like Fairport, and was quite disappointed. I wish I had known better and paid more attention.
What a special time for the band as right between the amazing Delivery Man and then the fantastic River in Reverse albums
I love Holdsworth and Coltrane as well❤
Mattacks, Pegg, Nicol, Zorn : it's a Fairport Convention line-up

Elvis and the Imposters are an AWESOME band! I've beena fan since the beginning ....1977....Pete and Steve have been with Elvis since the beginning and Davey was a great replacement for Bruce..Elvis is an incredible artist.....played with Burt Bacharach AND the legendary Chet Baker who adapted Elviss Almost Blue as his signature piece....!! Amazing!!
😍
Top shelf..... Thanx for the upload!.
great performances and unfortunately lousy picture quality. Saw it live on TV at the time.
Hats off to recorders
Allan is 63 years old here.
his electric guitar is kick ass. i like everything he does
AH is my musical father. Loved and learned so much from this man. Don't play like him at all but have taken many things of his and made them my own. Even though it was very infrequent I loved spending time with him too. Miss him dearly.
Can't beat Mike and Steve sticking around all these years. They always know every song inside out. Elvis could write a song on stage and they would be right there with him.
Who is Mike? Do you mean Pete Thomas the drummer?
@@robertstephens156 yea my mistake thank you.
Great to have Elvis with us. He has The best lyrics and always a surprise for me. I have been a fan since 1977 and he's always at his best when he makes noise. And has a mission and he's on a mission.
Damn they're great!
18:25 is Genesis Hall
Second track eviscerating a certain famous ex-milkman 🐝😂
Only f**king awesome...
The drummer and the kb player are the same from SNL 77 performance?
Yeah. Pete Thomas and Steve Nieve. They play with him until today.
I've seen EC over 50 times live and this is one the best fuil shows I've seen...the band sounds awesome, Elvis is in great voice and everyone is having a great time!!!....thanks for posting this priceless gem....BTW...I'm sad to report Elvis can't sing anymore..I just saw him a week ago and he was terrible...nick Lowe sounded perfect....it broke my heart about Elvis ...second bad show in a row I've seen with him
Saw him in July and I loved it. Some songs were a bit tough for him to stay in tune (Comedians and Accidents Will Happen), as you say, but mostly it he rocked. The last 30 or maybe even 45 minutes were the best I've ever seen in live concert and I've seen some great shows, with Pump It Up, I Want You, Alisson and a lot from the amazing new record. Some people still defend Paul McCartney's voice and I don't get them either, but Elvis is still absolutely worth the money imho
I saw his live the 16th time in 2023 in Bend Oregon. 🎉
Think they forgot to plug in the bass at first, didn't they?
テキトー伝説ジュンジ参上😁
This was not very good,; I guess it's RT and LT relationship derating. Good musicians though, better vibes 1983 when out with Richard alone.
They don't look very happy do they? And it's noticeable they don't look at each other. The sound and mix aren't great, but there's not much wrong with the actual performances; they were very professional. If anything the situation gives some of the songs an extra poignancy. And they can't underline the point much more clearly than by covering Crying In The Rain...
"RT and LT" ...Hell Freezes Over tour.
Linda sounds a bit shrill imo.
@@lilblackduc7312 - that was 1982, I thought.
This is so good I don`t have words to describe it. I may die a happy and content man.
Fun to hear RT work the riff from "I Saw Her Standing There" into TSL.
I have the same Rick 360 as Simon!
The members of Fairport Convention have something one does not see in any other band in the world. They may not want to play together full time but they are still on each others albums, tour with each other and are still friends.
RT rises to this nicely arranged occasion.
I love that Allan looks so happy throughout the whole video. He made a whole hell of a lot of people happy in his lifetime. Thanks so much for posting.
I could never understand this bloke's music, now it seems like a logic conclusion to guitar music evolution. I keep coming back, more and more. It's unearthly elegant and stylish. Shame I never got to see him when I had the chance... but I probably wouldn't have liked it back then. Well, thanks for posting it!
Can we please get timestamps? Thanks!
Nice to see Pete Zorn, looking like he's having the time of his life. Miss him so.
Seem like a wonderful time a wonderful life some good music together
Don't think they were finding it very wonderful at this stage! Sadly the marriage broke up not long after this.
13:43 absolutely bonkers run from Jimmy Johnson and quickly joined by Gary! Love to see it
