    Years late but growing up with Megaman and Bass outside of rare exceptions it was arguably one of the better games. If I died it was almost always due to me being bad then unavoidable deaths. Now this being said I will say 100% BS if you start the game as megaman without prior knowledge of the stages. It feels like it was designed to play as Bass first to learn the levels and gimicks then move onto megamans less then optimal platforming moveset.

    The difference is, Megaman and Bass, though difficult is a matter of trial and error, you get a little better with each mistake. Megaman X6 is a matter of trial and fuck you for trying again, after a certain point you will actually get worse the longer you play. If you manage to beat Megaman and Bass, a wave of relief will wash over you as you deliver the final blow, you might even feel a sense if accomplishment as you watch the epilogue and wonder what happens to the characters after this point. After beating X6 you just feel exhausted, get greeted with a short nonsensical cutscene that was made nonCanon 2 decades ago, then the screen goes black and you are forced to stare back at your wasted youth.

    and yet, despite all the bs they put in x6, i still consider it superior to x5. having to die for half an hour just to lower the amount of "hours" and enable boss drops is by far the worst thing this series has ever done. i am not counting the games that came after x6, because those just don't exist to me.

    Inafune likes taking credit but for better or worse he doesn't really have much to do with most of the games themselves beyond general instruction(iirc his total X5 input was "make it the last one") so it's best to take his words on gameplay with a grain of salt MM&B's main issue is that it was made for one character but not the other. Bass players come away with "that wasn't so bad", MM players come away with "I am in hell please send help"

    Megaman and bass is just hard, FUCKING HARD, bullshit even. But it was designed that way. X6 was......just sloppy. It's a rushed unfinished, half baked game. It has good ideas sometimes but the levels are so thoughtless in their design. The game is hard because it's badly made.

  • @DixieChix
    @DixieChix Před měsícem

    Honestly, IMO at least, I actually think MM&B is still way more frustrating to play, and not even in the sense that the challenge was ever meant to be intentional either (which is also why I was surprised to hear that the game was meant to be more hardcore from the outset to begin with, since I never saw this game in that way); tbh though, it could be my bias here since the second King stage alone was way more frustrating than the Gate stages for me since not only is there a lot of content in this one stage that frankly should've been made into their own separate levels (which I'm surprised they didn't do considering most Megaman fortress levels in general have around 4-5 stages to them so it would fit perfectly with the overall structure most of them go for), but the bosses ( _especially_ the King Tank one ) take forever to beat and are taxing enough on their own that it makes this gauntlet extremely brutal, way more than the Gate stages IMO... but also in general, the game just has these parts to it that are frankly far too much to deal with, and even if I love both it and X6 equally for a ton of things (like both Bass and Zero being extremely fun to play as in these games for example), MM&B has enough problems that kind of make me not want to play it as much, in fact it's kinda similar to the first MMZ game in a way, which is also a game that I consider extremely frustrating and unfun that was made to be hardcore first and foremost and would much rather play the sequels instead, so I dunno, maybe the way Capcom does "hardcore game design" is just not something I jive with too much lmao

    Personally i love X8s ost. But especially the final boss. Because it does what most boss themes never bother to do. It actually tells a story in a way. Lumine Phase 1-Ominous, A mysterious foe wrapped in unease. You feel like you're up against a seriously eerie opponent and it fits well. Phase 2-I don't even need to say much, But it is basically the chips are down, You're absolutely in the fight of your' life and the rush of the track hits so epically that it emphasizes the Lucifer like undertone of Lumine beautifully. And then Phase 3-The track tenses up, Becoming somber in a way. You feel the tension as you have only a short time to finish Lumine before your' imminent death takes you into it's cold grip. Most of the games in the entire MM franchise doesn't try to achieve this. It's usually just the stage and the boss themselves having those themes, not solely the boss itself. Battle Network 4 for example. Save Our Planet being a fantastic final level theme that truly amps you up and makes you feel the weight of the situation. Then Duo.exes theme is galactic in it's beats. And works well to feel like you're fighting something not of this world. Both are good ways to do it. But i will always hold X8 high in my heart as my first X game and just how strong those themes are. Even the less good themes like Noahs are still decent. But hey, Don't believe me? There's a reason so much of X8s tunes are used in X Dive including the sad theme which is incredibly impactful imo.

    I’ve never had a problem with the difficulty per se of each game. A lot of megaman games are difficult and that’s what’s great about a lot of them that idea of overcoming a really tough challenge. The problem is basically what’s said in this video is that when there are tight deadlines difficult becomes “just put a bunch of spikes and enemies everywhere whatever fuck it” which isn’t satisfying really at all.

    The divisiveness of the boss rush is something I find interesting. I find that the worst boss rush of the series to be Mega Man 1, as it is a gauntlet and has the bosses lazily placed around the stages. And sure having it throughout the stage like MM&B and MMX are fine every once in a while, but I don't want it to become the standard as I find that lazily putting them in the final castle to be kind of pointless as you aren't really doing any weapon management, and it feels way more generic. I mean they literally had to make those types of boss rushes rare so they would stand out. For the standard Mega Man boss rush you also get to chose what boss to go up against next, so you can formulate a strategy to determine which robot masters to face at any time. Not to mention in a game like Mega Man 2, you also have to multiple weaknesses so you have to manage which ones you want to use. I don't really understand people who prefer them randomly placed in the final stages as choice is a huge part of Mega Man games.

    God.. as much as Mega Man X2 is my favorite game of all time. Yeah you are right the soundtrack is very weak. But I would not put it dead last. I would of moved it up 2 spots. And I would of moved X6 down a spot. But yeah X1, X4 and X5 had the best soundtracks in the series. (And I think X1 and X4 were not only better OSTs but tied as the best game of the series too)

    as someone whos first owned mega man game being mega man and bass, the game was indeed hard even knowing to do cold mans stage first and always getting stuck on him when he sharted out a cloud of which playing bass made some of the stuff trivial mega man did offer a more skillful way of playing. also treble just breaks king stage 1, and the bosses themselves are pretty memorable and ill admit it took me some time to actually beat them and yet the weaknesses were a bit tough to figure out when not having it and i'd say pirate man being weak to the wave burner really threw me off as i didnt think it would actually damage anything and i think i lucked out as mega man when i remembered the waveburner pushed the floating spike balls, the weird weapon trial stage felt pretty rewarding as by time you cleared all other stages to unlock it the shop gained more items and the trial stage was just free bolts. also thank god going into the shop didnt reset the king stages as that was the only saving grace of having everything bought and having a ton of bolts to buy spare bodies all while king tank ate away at them then only for the king machine to just ruin all expectations with the flash bombs or worse yet the time i beat the boss as it punched the platform i was about to land on... king himself was fairly easy and willy was fairly easy too then again i started to believe and ultra instinct my way through the stage. god i miss playing this. should replay it via Rock Man and Forte since the screen crunch on gba was a bit much

    Both RockMan & Forte, and X6 suck for their own seperate reasons. R&F is intentionally hard, but a lot of the bosses suck! I rage quit at King's Castle act 2. I was able to beat X6, but even then, I was able to recognize a *_lot_ of shitty level design and bosses that, like the game they hail from, did not spend enough time in the oven. It was also made behind Inafune's back, because the series was supposed to end at episode 5! The only other issue I have with R&M is: this game was made to pacify people who didn't have access to Mega Man 8, and it shows. Every level has the same trope as MM8, and it even poaches to of the bosses. Why not just make an SNES version of MM8 at that point?

    I just finished Mega Man & Bass after playing all the other Mega Man games before it. It was not my first playthrough of the game, but I think is the first time I play through the whole game with Mega Man, and I have a theory: I'm pretty sure that the game was going to be a Bass/Forte spin-off and THEN they decided to add Mega Man. A lot of jumps and enemy placement feels hard for no reason for Mega Man, while Bass has no problem at all. I.e: Tengu Man baloon jumps, King stage two jump before the last fight (the one that you need and Ice wall with Rock), Dynamo Man conveyer belt jumps, and many more.
