Mother Nature strikes back with a vengeance. Good news: the fish were biting, Bad news: the May Flies were hatching. Early August catfishing in the Yadkin River.

Post Spawn Yadkin River Catfish

July catfishing in the Yadkin River. Looking for the post spawn catfish bite. During the spawn the bite is extremely slow. When they come off of the bed, they're hungry. Those are the ones that we are after.

Where you fishing at
In the Yadkin River about 4 or 5 miles down river from where I85 crosses.
Liked the vid. Nice work. Just subscribed to your channel. Keep them coming and good luck out there
I helped a little 3 year old girl catch her very first channel cat on the 4th July weekend.
@@mikelockhart1827 that’s GREAT! I enjoy helping people, especially kids, catch catfish.
Just curious if you fish there in the summer months.
I fish the Yadkin river all year round. I fish from where the South Yadkin comes in, to High Rock Lake
Nice sharing 👍
Those deer flies are the worst I’ve ever seen them!! I’ve sprayed so many different kinds of pesticides this year but it’s acted likes steroids, made them bigger, faster, stronger and the teeth are 3 inches long. Had one bite me on the elbow through my truck door as I was running 55mph.
I been fishing the yadkin river around york Hill most of my adult life. I have caught more fish in the river than I have in the lake.Tight lines man
Had ya out there a-steppin-n-fetchin!! Great ta see ya burnin'em up like that. Haven't seen anything out of yer buddies lalely. They ain't done got distracted elsewhere and run off have they?
Good ta see ya out fishin.. Enjoyed it.. d:^)
So majestic ❤
Great video! Love your content 😁
Thanks so much!
Im a fan and live about 30 minutes away from the yadkin river so wish me luck, just dont know what kinda bait to use
He catches shad and uses those for bait mostly 😊
I used a small fishing rod to catch some white bass with night crawlers. I cut the white bass up and used a bigger rod to catch the catfish. I also use shad that I catch in a cast net.
That mess is always there, especially in shallow areas. It’ll fill up a cast net.
Good ta see you and ol' Trav out on the water.. Nice Flatty.. Is the snot grass or whatever that black mess is all cleared up? Last year was my first on Tuckertown. Curious if that's an annual event. 🤠
Good ta see ya out enjoying the nice weather.. 🤠
I’ve been out several times but haven’t caught anything
Nice to see some new content.. Hopefully the cooler weather will stay with us after this coming week.. d:^)
That was a nice blue catfish.
You was on fire, man.Good video. Where on the river was you fishing.
Below I85 at the power plant
I went fishing there today, and just couldn’t get anything to bite. Is there a part of the Reservoir that is best for some flatheads?
Straight out at the river rd boat ramp. It’s shallow until you get 2/3 of the way out and then it drops off quickly. There’s many stumps there too. I’ve caught some good flat heads right there. Also down from there between the two mountains has been good to me also.
@@muddyriverfishinbuddies6113 thanks so much for the info. I need all the help I can get. I will definitely check both places out the next time I’m there. Stay safe and tight lines.✌️🎣
Cool story! You got a new sub :)
Good ta see y'all out on the water.. d:^)
I remember when the sand bar used to be there. Several years ago I let Taylor talk me into swimming across the mighty river. I thought that half way I would be able to rest on the sand bar, of course it’s no longer there!!! Nearly lost my life that day.
It’s 12’ to 14’ over there now!
Have fished there on Tucker Town Lake many times. Beautiful scenery and good fishing.
Nice video <3
Thanks!
Good ta see ya out fishin again. Seen ya pass by the house a time r two and no new vids. Figgered the fishin musta fell off. Thanks for suffering the bugs and gettin some new footage!! d:^)
What kind of boat do you fish out of? Do you have a walk around on it by chance? Thanks brother!
I have a Carolina Skiff with a center console
@@muddyriverfishinbuddies6113 I’ve looked at 5-6 Jon boats so far and I see a few skiffs for sell. I’m worried the Jon boat won’t carry me and a buddy as were both 190-200. I thought this was a skiff! How does the skiffs ride? There’s a 16 ft skiff close by and I’m debating on looking at it. Decent boat to learn on? Do they handle more weight than johns?
@@Nubbz336 I’m 270 ish, my skiff is 19’-8” and it’ll ride 4 or 5 people my size with no problem. It’s not exactly a flat bottom but it’s close. That makes it ride rough on waves. My first boat was a 16’ flat bottom John boat that was 6’ wide. I loved it, it floated in 6” of water. I tried to turn it over but couldn’t. I wouldn’t trust a John boat that’s less than 5’ wide and 14’ long. My skiff is 7’ wide.
@@muddyriverfishinbuddies6113 the skiff looks roomy! That explains why, it’s twice as wide as the Jon boats I’ve looked at haha. I may look into a skiff as well.
Good ta see you and Trav out fishin'. Sounds like y'all ended up near 85 again. Thanks for making this available.. d:^)
Looks like the perfect spot you had!
It is an awesome spot. It’s just too close to the train yard. They work at night!
@@muddyriverfishinbuddies6113 if all goes well I’ll have my boat tomorrow and I’ll be out on the yadkin soon! Be my first boat, hopefully I don’t ruin it 😂😂
@@Nubbz336 be careful in the Yadkin. Lots of floating logs. It’s shallow in a lot of areas that you wouldn’t realize.
@@muddyriverfishinbuddies6113 I don’t plan on moving fast what so ever. I have a lot to learn but I’ll be happy to be off the bank! Where do you normally put in at?
York Hill access. It’s where I85 crosses the river
Looked like a great time afield and afloat! The local weather has had some beautiful bouts for a while now.. Glad y'all got to get out and enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.. d:^)
It was the perfect weather for what we did. We had a great time.
Good ta see some better local catches.. Looked like a reasonable evening of fishing. Been pickin at the Channels over on Tuckertown.. d:^)
We started to camp down there. Have the blues and flatheads stopped biting?
@@muddyriverfishinbuddies6113 Can't really say. I'm just bumbling my way thru learning the fresh water gig. On the occasion I have success catchin bait I'll get a Channel here and there. Can't say that I've "applied" myself. Still workin the kinks outta my boat and gettin some semblance of a system goin. It's all fun. 🤠👍
As a professional snapping turtle catcher I’ll share a tip on how to get hooks out of their mouth the easy way, you must lay the turtle on its shell (up side down), then check the position of its vent to determine its sex (females vent will be even with the back of the shell and males will be slightly lower, once you have figured out the sex the next step is Very Important!!! On a female you rub the bottom shell/belly or as we call it the airplane, this will allow her to fall asleep and then just remove the hook, if it’s a male you will need to squeeze the tip of his tail until his eyes roll back in his head then just remove the hook. Hopes this helps.
I’ll be sure and tell Travis this in case we ever catch another one. 👍
I've been wonderin' if the fishin had turned off slow.. Saw the truck hooked up several times but no new vid for a bit.. It's good ta see you and Trav havin a good day fishin.. Looks like a fish fry may be forthcoming.. 😋🤠
It has been slow. They are spawning now. We did best with the jugs, we had 22 hooks in the water. We caught most in shallow water, 4-6 feet deep. The biggest, on the rod was in 18-20 feet deep.
@@muddyriverfishinbuddies6113 Been meaning to stop by sometime if I saw ya in the yard when I was passin by. Had a few Q's about the skiff..
Nice!
If filleting a catfish, I find skinning to be an unnecessary step.
Looks like a reasonable night of fishin outside of the bugs.. Good ta enjoy some new content and thanks for making it available! d:^)
Looked like a reasonably productive evening.. Glad ta see the KastKing performing. I've got 2 I'm tryin to find some work for. Tried the low profile Kapstan Elite 300 on the charter trip and it did the duty very nicely. Prolly gonna make the rest of the lineup with those.. Thanks for making this vid available. Yer finally starting to show up in my feed. For a while ya tweren't gettin any algorithm love.. d;^)
You are awesome Zeke keep up the awesome videos brother congrats on your fish mama skeeter
Congrats on the new PB for Momma Skeeter!! Looks like y'all had a great time! d:^)
This fight could be the beginning of the best redneck workout video ever!! Good job mama skitter!!
Appreciate the video and info
Nice encore! d;^)
Travis is all slimed up ol son congratulations on the river monster!!🎉
Holy cow!! Whot a great vid!! Looks like a great time and I have no doubt that the smack talk was mighty.. Dunno which was bigger. That catfish or Trav's smile.. Congrats on yer PB Travis!! And thanks much to Zeke for your efforts in making this available to thoroughly enjoy.. d:^)
😆
Nice eulogy! d;^)
Funky old boats are fun!! d:^)
Any extra weight or particular size mesh? d:^)
I use an eight foot net now. 3/8 mesh and one ounce per foot on the weights.
You'sa lil vague on the sardines. In oil, mustard or water? Whether afield or afloat there ain't much that doesn't go with sardines. At the house, not so much.. Causes the girls to contort their faces. d:^)
In water. The more other stuff that’s in sardines means the older they were before being processed.
Great "This is how I do it" vid!! I'm sure the frugalness would be "Catfish Kyle" approved. d;^D
Congrats on the PB, Brendan!! Great way to end the day.. I wonder if that PB has been bested since? d:^)
Not yet. He’s been close. We’re still working on it though
