Actually circle A only turns 3 revolutions. The answer is B, 3 revolutions, no matter it rolls on a straight line or on a circle. We name the point of intercept (touching) between circle A and circle B is C. Circle A only needs to turn 3 revolution then point C will come back to its original position. The demonstration you show in this video is very interesting and it triggered my imagination in Physics. However, I found that for the case you show 2 coins of the same size, the coin only turn 1/2 of its revolution then the head of the figure in the coin turns up; the second time it turns up again at original position. So, it only take 1 revolution, not 2. In the SAT question: radius circle B = 3 times radius of circle A. A turns up 4 times, the path of each time is actually = 1/4 + 1/2, which is 3/4 the length of circle B. So in total = 3 revolutions. The correct answer is B. Why do I say 1/4 + 1/2? It’s because I want to show everyone that circle A turns 1/4 of its revolution for point A to touch circle B, then 1/2 of its revolution for point A to be at the top again. It’s repeat 4 times, but each time only 3/4 of circle B. Therefore, 4(3/4) = 3. Yes, 3 complete revolutions. I have a diagram but cannot upload here to make it clearer for everyone. Isn’t it more like how a tsunami wave propagates through the ocean at potentially supersonic speeds?
