The Story of Genki from Kyoto Zoo
Genki was born at Kyoto Zoo. She currently lives happily with her husband Momotaro and her 2 beautiful sons, Gentaro and Kintaro. However, she has lived a rather tragic life. This is her story. 03:04 Genki is moved to Ueno Zoo. On March of 1997 she was moved to Ueno Zoo following a breeding recommendation from the Japanese Society of Zoos and Aquariums. The Silverback at that time was Biju. The move was rather traumatic for Genki, and she lost 43 kilograms of weight which equals 95 pounds.
03:24 Genki & Biju. Genki got pregnant with Biju but unfortunately, she had a miscarriage.
03:33 Momoko. Early in 1999 they brought Momoko, who is a dominant female, to the group and Biju became more interested in her than in Genki.
03:44 Self Mutilation. After loosing her baby Genki was heartbroken. She was also experiencing severe stress due to her reduced position in the hierarchy of the group. As a result she bit off the tip of her finger in one of her hands. After that Genki was moved back to Kyoto Zoo in 1999 for her own good.

Gorilla Charles at Denver Zoo on 4-6-2019. He is in a bachelor group with his brother Curtis. He was born on March 20th 1996 at Buffalo Zoo which makes him 23 yrs old. His parents were Becky(f) and Omega(m). You see a bit of Curtis at the end of the video.

they're all w/out a doubt hands down Gorgeous ,fascinating gorillas! Only thing in my opinion that i feel could use some improvements is the size of their enclosures, just seems a bit small for a primate whose natural behavior is traveling in search of food day in n day out ,but other than that they se3m very well cared for and loved ,.they deserve nothing less than the best life we as human beings can provide them ......good job Japan!! After watching this video about Annie I can see why she is a Daddy’s girl. I can understand why Annie acts towards NeNe and her birth mother. Shabani was there from the start to show his daughter he loved her and was there to protect her from the others. So it makes it clear to me why she is always defending her Dad when the others try to team up on him.

A linda Genki tem uma história muito sofrida, de perdas, maus -tratos , uma história rica, ela é uma gorila muito inteligente, forte, doce, eu poderia ficar o dia inteiro fazendo uma grande lista da linda Genki, realmente dá para escrever um filme, fazer um documentário. Eu assisti o vídeo e fico muito triste de saber, eu já sabia, como Hiromi mãe de Genki morreu, para mim e surreal, porque foi uma morte que poderia ser evitadacse tivesse mais organização, escrevo isso, porque quase fui estagiária de um Zoo, o número de animais mortos de grande em Zoos é assustador, os Zoos precisam entender que esses magníficos animais sentem dor, tem emoções, doenças que precisam ser tratadas ou curadas, ficam ansiosos, depressivos, assustados, entediados e tristes, não é um favor os funcionários do Zoo tratar bem, é questão de humanidade, empatia, civilidade, estou escrevendo porque não posso só elogiar, melhoramos muito pouco só com elogios, mas crescemos com as críticas, as dicas, e a preocupação com as pessoas que realmente amam os gorilas e não acompanham como se fosse a novela dos gorilas, varios momentos da vida da Genki foi erro humano, mas tiveram muitos acertos, conseguiram pegar Gentaro e hoje ele está lindo, ele é a cara da Genki, os olhos dela, meu lindo Kintaro aos 7 meses o Zoo conseguiu complementar a alimentação, e com certeza o Zoo aprendeu muito com isso e vai aprender mais, porque eu estou assistindo e todo dia aprendo e muitos ensinamentos não estão na literatura, nos artigos científicos das melhores revistas científicas. Fiquei triste a primeira vez que li sobre a morte do irmão da Genki, é lamentável. Momotaro é muito parecido com a Momoko jovem, Kintaro e Gentaro são uma mistura de Genki e Momotaro. Momotaro attacks genki a lot and has injured her. She is very afraid of him and they usually avoid each other.
I have not seen Momotaro attack Genki. Gentaro does.
@@GiselSimon go through their vids. Gorilla world is the account. He has attacked and injured her MANY times. She is also nearing the end of her life. Im not sure how long they will allow them to stay together.

Interesting. I wonder if this is why Annie tends to mess with Nene more than I see the other gorillas do now. Also might explain why Annie is a bit distant from Shabani if he had to intervene like this a lot as he was, and is, an imposing presence and seeing a gorilla that large barreling at you is definitely cause for concern.
