What a lovely surprise! If you can't find the film camera - I've a Pentax one sitting in my place that I can pass along. The lenses I have for it mean I can go for f8 on them all. And I also noticed that the battery drained quite quickly - it may have been sitting in the shop for awhile given it isn't a regular type of one. There if you want to have a play with that film you've scored!

Pentax has zero support in the USA. I remember when they were in Colorado when it was still Pentax under Hoya, those guys had all but given up, but you could call them and ask them tech questions and they would do their best. Under Ricoh, in the USA, they use the same call center that handles Ricoh's copiers and it's worthless. Ah, but then Americans only want the newest and shiniest stuff even if it's not as good. 🙂 Nice bag o' goodies!

That's when I discovered both Tim and This Forest Floor on Instagram. Between Tim and Jamie's work, I have found so much inspiration. I have spent a heap of time recently chasing fungi in the Otways, and had the most amazing day where I found both my first fruiting slime mould and also a lifer for me, my first Velvet worm. Sometimes, if you’re not feeling it, it’s not worth it (something I’m developing for a future video), and that’s okay! We like to understate things here. What you’d call a forest, we call bush. Much of the state is covered in temperate rainforest. There have been the odd story of Tasmanian Tiger sightings, or evidence of their presence. But if any real proof exists, it is closely guarded to protect the animals. Thanks Edward. I’m enjoying the process and learning to speak more easily.

With regard to polarisers there used to be a person on the Mu-43 forum that used two polarisiers and sheet polarising material to control reflections and hot spots on spiders etc Unless I missed it what type of diffuser does Tim use for in camera stacking and single focus shots? I am also an Olympus/OM user and learning to focus stack is high on my to do list. Tried hand held but not too successfull.

I’m no expert when it comes to macro and I learned a lot the day I went out with Tim. From what I recall, Tim was using a flexible silver reflector. It wasn’t too dissimilar to the kind you would use for a jetboil stove to keep the pot warm. He was able to bend and shape it to his needs for each shot. The great thing about fungi is that you can take your time. I imagine that insect would be insanely difficult to photograph! As with any form of photography, the more you learn, the more you learn that you need to learn. Good luck with your journey. I am sure there are many amazing discoveries in store for you. I had said to Simon, there was no way I’d get up if I was on my own! But then I’ve done it since. Thanks for watching Nic

If only I could afford some underwater housing. I don’t think I’d ever leave the sea!

The Pentax K1 has such a nice film like rendering for a digital camera. Now that I'm shooting more film I've come to appreciate it even more.

Nice video man. My question is regarding shooting with an IR filter, which I have tried myself. How do you nail focus with it as focus is different for infrared light? A vintage lens with red IR markings is one way I guess. But focusing and then putting on IR filter on with a modern lens doesn’t work due to the IR needing different focus as I said. 👍📸

Thanks! There's a couple of things with the IR filter. Yes, the wavelength is different and won't auto-focus, so you HAVE to manually focus. I use the live view and digital zoom to nail the focus on the hyper focal point. With that, over-expose just to get the focus, then dial it back for the image. The second part is because you're in for a long exposure (unless it's really bright), set the aperture to minimum f/7.1, but maybe go to f/11. That way, even if you haven't quite nailed the focus, there's a bit of wiggle room.
