Bravissimo..!!!

How long ago did you adopt string bending? I thought this was taboo in violin technique? Don't get me wrong, I love string bending and the way you do! Please don't be offended, but I was taught never to bend a violin string. Personally I think it makes the violin sound better! But I seldom see the G string bent. I think the technique is wonderful and really gets the instrument to sing quite deftly. Anyway, great admiration for your pull down bend of the G string on the Magini or Bussetto, I think its masterful technique! Bravo!❤❤❤

Less than 50 remaining? Were his violins ever known to be marked on the back with an embossed name and date? My grandfather gave me his violin in 1969. There’s no paper label visible inside but it has a name in all caps on the back, at the base of the neck: “PETER GUARNERIUS - ANNO 1712”. I have a letter from my grandfather describing its origin story. It’s traceable back to the early 1800s when it was purchased from a pawn shop in London, UK. The tone is incredibly beautiful and sonorous. I love playing it although I prefer to play the guitar.

Just beatiful! Im going into my second yr in a studio at a conservatory, and I’m working on both menuets. Playing all the chords and keeping it moving quite bear. Any tips regarding this piece? Again, great job! I consistently use you as a reference when I am learning a new piece, this channel is a gold mine!

Dear Katha! Enjoyed the Amati solo! Was wondering if you could solo some Gligga violins? I am enthused about wood from Carpathia and Dracula etc. I see the Gligga instruments as the last real hope of replacing my great grandfathers violin. Anything information wise about Gligga violins would be helpful. I dont wish to impose but if you ever have the opportunity to sample some Gligga violins i would be very interested. Thank you for educating me about Lupot violins Katha. I like their tone but was not particularly moved by its sound. And again like Stainer, the bridge may not have been making complete contact with the belly. She did have a sweetness of a young ladies singing voice but there was no fire in the instruments emotion. Your playing as usual impecable! The violin was just o.k. thank you again again Katha!😅

Thank you Katha! I've been studying about the life of Antonio Stradivari from a book writen by Hill. I have read it several times thoroughly. According to Hill, Steiner was better than Sradivari and Amati. I found this hard to swallow. If the example you played is representative of Stainer, I found the sound even and smooth but lacking in power or brilliance. Who knows maybe the bridge or soundpost was off that day. From the build up I read.about Stainer your example left me seriously wanting. You made a great point when you said Stainers were designed for chamber music. As far as I am concerned Stainers were not all that that they were cracked up to be. I will not be seeking out Stainers anytime real soon. Thank you for educating me all about Stainer violins. I think Adolf Hitler may have propagandists the popularity of Stainers and puffed them up. I may be wrong I don't know. I am thankful for your expert assay of the Stainer violin. Of course not every Stainer was the same and humidity as ound post and bridge may have been not ideal when you tested the instrument. However that said you have completly disproved Hills claim that Stainer was a great and sought after violin. I feel educated now and thank you for your help! Most greatful!😅

I am deeply greatful to you. In the 1980s I traveled to Lorence and Rome. I was interested in art and visited the Uffuzi museum etc. I missed my calling! I should have visited Cremona and picked up a violin there. Wow what an oversight! I thought I wanted to be an artist. All along I overlooked the violin and violin making. Wow I could have had a V-8! As a great violinist, I'm sure with that Stradivarius in your hands you can detect some differences causing you to prefer the other two. However, I agree with you that if this violin is played and nurtured so to speak, you would eventually love it as much as the other two Strads.🎻
