In this case when they swerved, had you been 360° aware, you would have known that the lane next to you was clear and would have been able to complete your maneuver...safely. I'll point out that the mirrors have blind spots. They illuminate orange when there is a vehicle in the blind spot. Under normal circumstances, I lean forward to get a perspective of the area I can't see from the normal driving position. It is not that the mirrors were not used, but that I must view through the mirrors through two different positions to see something for myself. He said to adjust each one to where they barely show the side of your vehicle when your head is up against the driver's seat. So see out of them properly, you physically move your torso so that you can verify what is around you. I have an FRS, and it has MASSIVE C pillars. I have to physically move my torso (head hanging over the passenger's seat) to see around them. Sometimes multiple times while merging. There is no such thing as a blind spot, only negligence to look. I have carried that mentality for many years. Mainly because I ride motorcycles, and I don't want to be responsible for hitting one. @JoelIvoryJohnson 4 days ago I can't disagree with anything you've said on driving safety. I stay a respectful distance from motorcycles. I had the unfortunate experience of being behind one (but sufficiently far away) to witness a woman change lanes abruptly and clip the back wheel of the cycle, throwing the driver off and unconscious on an Interstate.
