Brilliant presentation, thanks for telling your story as it was an encouragement to me on my journey as well. My family navigated 12 relocations over the course of one year to get to Japan and we just completed our 13th to stay here. Your experience of de-titling yourself in order to progress your CT business is exactly what I've experienced in the Japanese market as well. My work with Johnson& Johnson put me in front of surgeons across the entire region, uncovering their unmet needs so I could direct Global Innovation on their behalf. Even as I was a director of front end innovation Japan, I still approached them as an American engineer, allow them to open up and share things they wouldn't have shared with Japanese sales reps or marketing. Living across context is wild and a gift!

Thank you so much for your kind words! It’s incredible to hear that my story resonated with you, especially given the challenging journey you’ve undertaken to get to Japan. Navigating 12 relocations in a year is no small feat-that alone shows remarkable resilience and adaptability. Your experience with Johnson & Johnson, particularly in how you’ve approached your work in Japan, really echoes the importance of understanding and embracing different cultural contexts. It’s not always easy to shed titles and adapt to new environments, but as you’ve found, it can open doors to deeper connections and opportunities. The ability to live and work across different contexts truly is a gift, and it sounds like you’ve mastered it beautifully. Thank you for sharing your journey with me. It’s stories like yours that remind me why the I CAN mindset is so powerful and necessary. Keep thriving, and I wish you continued success in all your endeavors here in Japan!
