    • @eric91780
      @eric91780 Před rokem

      @@MaddoxVicRealtor The relationship between PSI and feet of head is that 2.31 feet of head / distance above source of water outlet = 1 PSI. So if you have a water tank that is 10 ft tall and it is completely full of water up the top of the tank it will only have 4.3 psi at the bottom of the water tank at the outlet. The volume of water has nothing to do with the amount of pressure it makes. It's all about elevation / height / head of the water in relation to where the outlet is. You can have a 10-ft round by 10 ft tall water tank or a 1-in pipe that is 10 ft tall and they will both have the same pressure at the bottom. I know it's hard to believe that all the extra volume of water wouldn't create more pressure but it doesn't work that way. It does great more weight of pressure that the surface that that water tank sits on though.

    • @eric91780
      @eric91780 Před rokem

      @@MaddoxVicRealtor so let's just say you wanted to have 50 psi at your house then your water tank would have to be approximately 115 feet above your house.

      @@eric91780 hello thank you So based off your information, If the home is positioned at the highest point of the land lot, then - unless we are willing to put the tank on a very tall stand - the only way to get any decent pressure is to do a booster pump? Is this correct? (Because the house and lot would be relatively the same height on the land. (Plus or minus about 10 feet)

    Most impressive. Well thought out, well executed, and you described it well. The system looks nicely done, and the labels are super handy/professional-grade. Please forgive me if I missed it, but where does the water then come out when this tank is used to supply water? I saw a Tee between the tube from the ground (the inlet) and the tank with the "reserve" valving/tubing, I assume that's where the water will come out and feed to the lower-elevation tank you mentioned having. Is that correct? Again, very nicely done all the way around. I wish I did projects that were this nice.

    • @eric91780
      @eric91780 Před rokem

      The pipe from the well to the water tank is bi-directional. The water comes up when being pumped and hits a check valve at the bottom which then forces the water to go up in through the top of the tank. Then when water is coming out of the tank the check valve opens and allows the water the pass through and out.

      The developer company that sold the home. It was a design failure on the utility company engineer. You should not have a pole box uphill from a service panel. Otherwise under heavy rains or heavy irrigation the pull box fills up with water and then flows down into the panel.

    Definitely a nice set up the only thing that concerns me is you using brass fittings if this is potable drinking water. The reason BRASS is not used for fittings for drinking water is it can lead to high levels of the LEAD which does not leave your body, and just builds up overtime. Really nice set up though and only thing I would change is change those brass fittings to plastic or stainless steel.

      I'm getting ready to convert the other pump to solar now as well. RPS solar has conversion kits that can take a conventional 120 or 240 volt well pump and make it into a soft start solar pump. Their controller will allow you to run the well pump on regular AC voltage as well so you will not lose out on any options for AC or DC voltage with their setup.

    Thank you for the useful video on the SmartWater pump controller. It has been over two years since you did this install -- would you still recommend SmartWater? I am on the fence, because it is kind of a hassle to convert this New Zealand product to US electrical usage: a 240VAC -> 12VDC power supply, a contactor with a 12VDC coil that runs 240VAC, possibly a fuse block, all the wiring, and THEN the SmartWater product itself. That's a lot of stuff that can and will eventually fail, but I have yet to find a US-made product that competes with the SmartWater featureset.
