People have always complained about Utility Subs in the Splatoon series being undertuned, kit killers, etc, and have asked for buffs on them. However, I think the issue is a lot more complicated than that. In this video, I discuss the real issue with these, as well as some ideas I have that can fix the issue, or at least mitigate it

Idk if that'd fix it by itself but it helps! I reversed it so it gets stronger overtime and gave it other buffs along the way
Ok im going to say what buff i think the utilities should get and are more realistic to get. angle shooter, i think should just make the shot of it a little wider so its a little easier to hit the direct maybe like a charger or even bamboo kind of radius and the marking duration is as long as point Sencor trip wire does 20 damage once. mist should be 55% and whiting frames are lowered, so u dont run ut of ink whenever u try to use it in a fight as much, also it slows down ur airtime movement so u cant squid roll through it at the same speed. sprinkler should be 50% and get its paint back that it used to have in splatoon 2 and it stays alive when u die, sub power up still doesnt let u throw it farther like it used to so u cant put ur sprinkler its imposible to reach spots. point sencor has a radius increase and whiting frames lowered and maybe redused the ink cost of it? i want u to beable to throw them on any weapon without feeling to punished, curling bomb is 55%, the explotion radius without charging it is slightly increased and whiting frames are lowered

That's not entirely true. Heavy Splatling likes Sprinkler even in its current state. Dynamo likes it as a mobility tool It's just not something most weapons don't want at the moment. And some buffs would make it more appealing
the thing is that if they dont like it they can just go back to srb2k and pretend this never happened
While that's definitely a better way to go about it than needlessly complain, that doesn't really fix the potential issue. Imagine looking forward to the sequel of one of your favorite games, then being disappointed by it and how it is. Sure you can go back to the OG, but I def understand some of the negativity
I had always thought about picking up SRB2 Kart, but never got around to figuring out how to install it. Then I saw a dialog compilation of Tails and Eggman discussing paint colors, was impressed at the level of detail, and decided to give Ring Racers a go. As someone who generally considers herself not the best at gaming, all the "This is not a pick-up and play game!" warnings and the complicated mechanics scared me a bit, but I figured I'd try Grand Prix's on Relaxed until I hit a wall. Thus far, I've gotten the credits to roll, haven't gotten so frustrated I wanted to drop it, and I'm just absolutely astounded by how high quality and fun it is for something that's LITERALLY FREE. There's dozens of references I immediately popped off at (the popcorn, Joyopolis, and Regal Ruin stages all come to mind, and even I'm not sure how I recognized Popful Mail the first time I saw her...) I guess years of Mario Kart and Sonic Racing were good for something, too, because picking up the basic controls wasn't nearly as hard as I feared it was going to be. I have yet to try online or the harder difficulties yet, so if that's where people's issues lie, I can't speak to those, (and I'm trying to hold out as long as I can without using the cheat codes, so idk how long it takes to unlock things via the challenges) but all in all, I love this thing.
I know exactly which video you're talking about with the Spray Can colors (good video btw!) The harder difficulties might raise *some* frustrations but it seems you've gotten a good handle on the controls, so it probably won't hit you as hard A lot of people don't appreciate the level of detail and care that they've put into this game simply due to their difficulty getting into it and it's honestly a big shame But I'm very glad you've been enjoying it!
What if instead we just rework sprinkler entirely into a turret. When placed down it begins to paint the floor like usual but when an enemy comes into range the turret will be to shoot at the enemy. It will be like a octo trooper you can use in battle.
Might run into the disruptor problem of everyone hating it
The only buff I've had for Line Marker was to make it like a temporary ink rail that you can use as a movement option. I know the main reason they wouldn't do that would be potential out-of-bounds shenanigans but outside of that slow weapons would LOVE to have Line Marker.
This kind of stuff would only be allowed if you had to go back to your start point after a bit. Ride a straight line into a wall, jump off for a shot or two, call back to where you started You can see that I'm slowly describing Zipcaster lol
I like the idea of all weapons having 2 subs. (lets have that L button actually do something!) I can see splatoon 4 doing what 3 done with specials and just doubling the number of subs we have so there's enough variety even with everything having 2 of them.
Huge props for getting most (if not all) of these on legit ways without abusing of springs like me
The game gives you the option to get them via springs and still count, but I personally get a lot more satisfaction out of getting them the intended way. They are meant to be obtainable during a normal race afterall 149/151 without springs, the last 2 literally give you springs in the level (which i showed off in those 2 cases!)
1. I still find it blasphemous that they have the audacity to give curling bomb more ink consumption over fizzy bomb. 2. Yeah, I also agree that weapon kits should be expanded to include 2 subs (1 bomb + 1 utility) instead of one in order to minimise the synergy complications. For any short range weapon, a bomb is the bare minimum for bring viable, not having one is a death sentence, just look at Sploosh, that weapon is the poster child of terrible sub synergy, especially so with the Neo variant and squid beakon. I just want my splat bomb sploosh, can't be asking for too much right?

Man... I wish there was a way to actually find all of these on a single save file. Like, seriously, I just wish there were placeholder spraycans or something so that way you could fill out your spraycan collection on the collectibles page. For the 100 base spraycans, it shows you what color the spraycan is and what track you found it on. But the fact that you have to live with empty spaces on at least 51 tracks pains me so much.

A large chunk of utility subs should be buffed mainly sprinkler. But generally speaking, if you said bombs are over tuned, I'd agree
Something to mention is Bombs are often required to compensate for low range, Utility Subs are only really affordable at longer range. Angle Shooter does have damage at range but lacks threat, Buff ink consumption to 25% so you could throw 4-5 per tank, Now it can splat someone in a single ink tank but keep in mind that enemies can react to escape and the line would give away your position, This would also help its utility to locate enemies behind cover.

All music used is from underground/underwater themes in videogames so this seemed like a perfect opportunity to use it
I think the biggest issue with utility sub weapons is that, despite the name, they often have far less utility than any bomb would. Every bomb has by default: a decent amount of burst paint, the ability to pressure at long range, and the ability to force people to react and move in response to the bomb. All of those are really powerful traits, and the bombs that don't have all three gain something else in exchange like location, combo damage, or sometimes even both. For a utility sub to compete, it has to do something that a bomb can't do. That's why splash wall and beacon are among the best ones, no bomb is going to shield you or be an anchor for you and your team. But then you look at something like toxic mist and like... it's not doing anything that a bomb can't do better. It slows enemies and drains ink, but only for a moment cause they'll just move out of the cloud and avoid it. The "utility" it offers is creating a zone of the map that players don't want to enter for 5 seconds, but any lethal bomb does the exact same thing and then some. Throw a suction bomb and you achieve the same effect, but now instead of that person losing 20% of their ink tank for not moving out, they just explode, and after the explosion you get paint that stays there until an enemy paints over it. The marginal amount of utility toxic mist might add is almost never worth losing the paint, damage, and every other benefit that bombs give. Same thing with sprinkler, it's not good enough at what it's supposed to do to justify picking it over a bomb, which can also paint and will often paint better. Hell, I bet you could combine both of these into one sub weapon and it'd still be okay at best. Like imagine a sub weapon that costs 70% ink and deploys both toxic mist and sprinkler where it lands: is that good enough to take over a splat bomb? In most cases, I honestly still don't think it is, and the fact that it's close at all is wild to me.
Definitely a big factor here but I worry that if we buff them too much it becomes extremely annoying And again even if we do, some weapons would not want them

I played splatoon 1 and with how broken are splat bomb and suction in this game because of the map design and spamability, i dont mind the buff, that would increase all weapons usage rate and that means not fight against shooter each match :3

I feel like angle shooter is super underrated. It is absolutely amazing on my main big swig express! It’s good for damage combos, killing people trying to run, quickly painting your feet, and scanning enemies for your team, things that big swig express really wants as a support/displacement weapon. It is still very capable of fighting with its vertical flick and angle shooter is very good at finishing them off if they don’t get one shot. Big swig express has the perfect kit for it in my opinion and I wouldn’t trade angle shooter for anything.
Angle Shooter is one of those subs that is very weapon specific and is genuinely really good on certain weapons But as someone that plays Swig a lot, I don't think that's one of the best examples LOL

In addition to the kit situation, I also think we should Nerf bombs, rather than buff other subs. They get too consistent of value with no downsides, and at lower elos where players don't yet have mastery over movement bomb spam is both miserable and genuinely oppressive. I really do think that throwing bombs back-to-back should increase the cost and white ink frames (temporarily) a little bit more every time a bomb is thrown in rapid succession, before gradually fading back to normal when the player stops throwing bombs. This would make bomb spam harder to do and also more punishable. We should be encouraging players to get value from the synergy between their bomb and the rest of their kit, like going for a quick combo because you have enough ink, or trapping them with your bomb so they're locked in close combat with you where you may have a more advantageous matchup, instead of encouraging them to spam suction bomb on tower or throw a stray torpedo every half a second without ever actually playing the game
This is a good way to reduce bomb spam, I like white ink frames being harsher if you throw bombs back to back
I am a biased Toxic Mister, it would be so cool if it was buffed in ways that makes it feel rewarding to catch enemies in your cloud. Ex: standing in it will make you slowly take damage, similar to standing in enemy ink or inkstorm but to a weaker extent, let’s say like 15 damage max. This can transform some kits into nice mist combos like Tristringer and the new Recycled Brella. Alternatively, increase its inkdrain potency by instantly draining 30%~50% of their ink tank if they’re caught in the initial explosion. This makes the short-term payoff much more effective and plays off the trapping/rushstopping potential of this sub.
Not sure if I'm a fan of mist doing damage but I REALLY like the instant ink drain pay-off actually
call me wrong but i really think mist has a ton of potential and if it was actually good it would be a super fun supportive sub
A lot of the issue with mist is that it has a really specific job that a lot of weapons simply don't want to be the ones to fulfill Short range weapons with mist can't poke outside their range Weapons that struggle to paint don't get any help with it It is still a little undertuned but not to the extent that some people will make you believe. cJet and Tri Stringer work really well with it
Honestly angle shooter having the trail deal damage would kinda suck and not really solve the main problem. If it did 20 damage let's say, tower control would be miserable - the trails can be placed in such a way that you have to hit two of them, and then you're within one shot range of blaster AoE shots for example. Personally, when I'm using an angle shooter weapon, I find the biggest issue to be that I don't get value from a hit. Basically, hitting someone swimming doesn't slow them down so I can't convert a KO in mid range, or constantly add chip damage to a fight at long range. Think about the rapid pro deco being the only dart weapon to kinda work with it- it can follow up on the direct hit damage with AoE shots and track the movement
If I were to buff it, I'd say make direct hits paint more at the feet of the person you kit, to basically ink mine explosion levels. That'd force them out, slow them down, and let weapons like splattershot pro or recycled brella get better combos

I really think custom kits would help sp much. Utility subs probably would be picked less, but there are weapons who would rather have them, and that choice would be up to the players, and not what nintendo decided to stick a weapon with.
I think FULLY custom kits is a slippery slope that could lead to even more bomb spam but somewhat limited custom kits to mix and match subs with specials would help a lot OH What if the community decided the subs/specials via splatfests themed around it? Actually that'd make splatfests even more toxic let's not-
Yeah, I agree. I definitely like like, 5-7 sub/special options for each weapon could be a nice sweet spot, there's definitely some weapons that do not deserve burst bomb, but I would prefer fully custom to what's going on now where so many weapons are held back from use just because kit

I've seen people say that they'd rather deal with Splatoon 1 Inkzooka than S3 Trizooka They only say this stuff because they're so far removed from S1 and they don't realize that they would HATE IT if they had to deal with it now a days
Trust me people only complain because the hit box is erratic and huge. They don’t know that the old zooka could be fired nearly 10 times and just because the hit box was smaller doesn’t mean it wasn’t deadlier. It was FASTER. Went ALL the way up, AND could be spammed more too. I hate zooka a lot too BUT MAN am I thankful it’s only 3 shots. Also it may have looked like you could hide behind cover in the old days but you couldn’t lol
@@Gremblebemble you could take cover but latency worked differently for old Zooka, to the point where the hitbox FELT like it was bigger (even when it wasn't actually)
I was saying old zooka may have had a smaller hitbox but they’d really kill you. People hate new zooka because it’s huge and erratic (also flies weird)

I feel like the only reason people hate Toxic Mist on Bambrella is because of how poorly the main and sub synergize. It might be good in some cases, but due to the fact is has no paint output and takes up a good amount of the ink tank, usually it just doesn't work out, especially with Bambrella being decently ink-hungry. I feel like Burst Bomb or Torpedo would be MUCH better for it, as they paint the user's feet and allow for easier escapes out of enemy ink. Plus, both subs mentioned provide an AMAZING combo tool for the weapon, just like Angle Shooter does on the vanilla kit.
I thought about the intro bit before the season even started and was hoping to get more mediocre kits for it to land but Bambrella was the ONLY kit that was like, bad For the record I agree that Mist is not great on it (specially with 200p splashdown) but I wanted to make that my intro anyways lmao

Having two sub weapons would give the two left and right parts of the Switch D-Pad an actual purpose. Being able to swap between the two on the fly for different purposes. It would make kits have potential to synergize with their main weapon AND have more functionality. And basically the user would have to decide which sub weapon was the best to throw in a specific situation. This would lower the prevalence of bombs significantly and give a chance for utility subs to shine.
Oh I was thinking of mapping utility subs to L LOL L for utilities, R for bombs DPad left and right should have more callouts ("hang back!" "Pass clams!") but that's a separate discussion

I think they should give more and i mean more HP to sprinkler, so it could be used as an annoying sub. My vision is, the opponent is either given the choice of spending time on a sprinkler or playing the objective. If they pick the sprinkler, its gone, although time is wasted. If not, the thing will paint the area and help out the enemy with special output. Although, stay up time can be adjusted. And for toxic mist.. We can make it deal 5-10 damage (Its big and instant unlike angle shooter, so its most likely to hit), the radius won't be changed or its effects but teammates/user gain some sort of buff (defense) only within the mist. Would make weapons like jet squelchers and tristringer great while close range like trislosher/bambrella set up for incoming attacks, the effect can't be stacked tho bc thats broken. Might be busted but tried.
Sprinkler maybe. It'd help but doesn't sound very interesting Mist doing damage goes against the weapon's design, not a fan
A different idea for bomb spam aversion is to decrease the effectiveness of sub saver. Seriously it's dumb when you're able to just throw two bombs back to back for free.
For Fizzy I definitely agree but for other bombs you have to make a HUGE commitment for it (except Jr) and you'd be sacrificing a lot more gear for it Do understand this viewpoint though. A small toneback wouldn't hurt

I think you should be able to attach the sprinkler to your player, that way as you’re moving you always have paint on your feet and you can paint without wasting your own ink. Only downside being you’d be an extremely obvious target that can’t sneak anywhere

I think bombs should be for direct combat and utility subs should be a mix of some combat and other things. Line marker does damage for combos and such but it should also be able to locate enemies longer, do tripwire damage, etc. Probably not the best ideas but better than having it as the worst sub.

I believe left bumper is used as an alternative button to throw clams/fizzy bombs/golden eggs.

I think sprinkler should just not break when you are splatted. Weapons like Light Tetras are going to die a lot and that Sprinkler isn't staying around for long.
People running short range weapons would literally be unable to destroy sprinklers in certain spots and that's toxic Sprinkler getting destroyed upon death is the only way those weapons can deal with it
@@OlmiOP Yeah, maybe the sprinkler could explode and do some damage to nearby players when it disappears though? Like, if somebody is near a sprinkler, and the sprinkler user dies, maybe the sprinkler could explode and give off 50 - 75 damage depending on how close the person is to the sprinkler.
@@esbastow hmmmm That sounds interesting, but idk if sprinkler is the best candidate for a big combo explosion. It just doesn't feel right to turn it into a different type of bomb, even if it is more interesting
@@OlmiOP Well the Sprinkler does get weaker over time so it's not like you can keep it there. You also leave yourself vulnerable when throwing them up high.
@@prestonandtom9337 It getting weaker is a fair point, but if there's nothing the enemies can do, it can still get a lot of paint in a critical area with 0 counterplay. And yes you're vulnerable, but if you know what you're doing, you should be able to do it safely most of the time

Splash Wall is a good utility, because it does something more strongly than what splat bombs do
people usually dont refer to splashwall when they say utinity subs bcs of how unusually good it is for a utility sub, its as good as all other bombs

I think the biggest accomplishment here is the lack of using Springs to get any of these
Technically I used 2. Hill Top and Sandopolis. I tried to get as many as I could with just speed shoes, since you ARE intended to be able to get these reliably in the middle of a REAL race, but the game gives you springs in those stages, and I don't see another way to get those, so it was fair game

Correct! I had to delete my save data in the middle of this to record these, which included unlocking hidden oalace zone again (the password to unlock all tracks doesn't unlock this one)
wait so can you simply not obtain the other 51 cans after you get 100 of them
@@apersoniguess_ I think that there are more tracks than there are spray colors. So once you collect all 100 colors the remaining 51 sprays you are missing just dont spawn on those remaining tracks since there are no more unlocks for them. I was surprised when i got the 100% spray collection but there were still tracks i hadnt found it on yet or some cups i hadnt unlocked yet. Its fine because it leaves them room to add more later or do something else, but it means that your track info screen will show there are some tracks you didnt find the spray on because it wont spawn.
@@Dashen_ speaking of the track info screen- where is that anyways, this is where you can keep track of which tracks you've found spray cans in right? Or does that not exist, though I swear I saw a screenshot of it once and then never again
@@apersoniguess_ On the main menu right after you start the game you go into Extra > Statistics. It shows all the info you could ever want: a heat map of your most used characters, a list of every track you have unlocked and your fastest times, sprays, if a shrine was found (but wont tell you if there is one), best times and time trial medals.
Wait, isn't there 151 tracks in the game? Do 10 of them just not have spray cans?

the glow up in rr for all of these are insane tbh though, speaking of returning kart tracks, I kind of wish spb cup (not including desert palace) were remakes of the community map versions of those stages from kart, but i get why they wouldn't do that i still do fairly like the rr variants, but they don't quite hit the same dopamine levels id get from playing their kart variants also wish they'd have a recycle cup 3 tbh, plenty of base game srb2k maps to pick out still i think honeybee industries and grand metropolis could be especially great maps to include in a hypothetical extra recycle cup, considering one was replaced in kart and the other is incredibly iconic not that i think *every* base kart map shouldve returned, some are best left behind, but i think they couldve recycled some more fun ones though, i thought it was a bit weird having the recycle cups be both tracks made for rr and returning tracks in one grandprix
Rest in peace honeybee industries Shall forever be remembered as one of the best tracks of all time I'm with you here, I wish they had a recycle cup 3 with some of the iconic maps from the time Though I didn't get to play the community made levels of SPB Cup (Wasn't even aware they existed, hence why I didn't wanna risk addon tracks LOL)
