Frick fish-tailling, stuck, getting pulled at NAMA 1996
Video of my Frick 8 1/2x10 steam engine trying unsuccessfully to get through the mud at the 1996 Nittany Antique Machinery Association steam show. Sliding sideways (very slowly), then needing to be pulled by another engine, which is a Geiser model Z owned at that time by the Beech family. Sorry about the noisy child - his sister was playing with him and he got upset when she stopped.

I believe the 9 1/2 is Ivan Zimmerman's and the other two are the King family's. Original power ratings for the engines are 65 hp, 50 hp, and 60 hp.

Hand crank Clipper seed cleaner

Using my hand crank Clipper seed cleaner to clean wheat seed for planting. Note that the "belt" drive is an actual waist belt (for your pants) ... was there when I got it and it works, so why not use it. The feed hopper is not original and needs reconstructed to drop the grain further toward the end of the first screen and flow better. This was built by the A. T. Ferrell & Co group. I don't kno...

Psytrance tractor
Very nice little portable engine.
What is the load they are putting on the engine ??
@larryengle8588 0 seconds ago It is a computer controlled generator and resistor bank built specifically to be a load for engines. The computer controls when, how fast, and how much load is created.
@@larryengle8588 in other words the whole thing is AI !!!!
Good bales. What year and model?
What is that black flat top whistle on that frick?
Not sure what you mean. The whistles are all brass, I believe, although they look kind of dark in the video. If you're referring to the black flat thing at the top of the smokestak, that is a ring to hold a spark arrestor screen. It's not in use at this time.
Outstanding!!
We used a double harpoon fork.
Great stack talk!!!
Put up hay this same way in early 50's. Moved on from loose hay with only horses, and then to baled hay and a B Farmall tractor in place of the horses. As a 12 yr old, was great fun but hard work. Had many fewer hands to help than this Amish crew, but they were enjoying their tasks. Agree their loose hay on the wagon was not stacked right.
Can t see a thing.
At least you know it don't work.
When I was in high school in the 60s we hauled baled hay using a derrick. Used a tractor instead of a horse on the derrick. Had to be careful using the deadman fork. When it was tripped it would spring out and injure anyone standing too close. My father raised hay in the 50s but we used a tractor with what was referred to as a Farmhand loader that had long prongs that would glide along the ground scooping up the bunched hay piles and load it on a trailer. Once the hay was stacked, a hay knife was used to cut or saw off sections to feed.
I am familiar with a hay loft not a mow..That is what is done to the hay as cutting.
I always heard loft when referencing a area up in the air. The mow (rhymes with cow) was the ends of the barn used for storage. Mow might just be the Pa Dutch word for loft and I don't know it.
Someone should have invented a way to grab the wagon, tilt it and dump the hay with one pull from the horse.
Is this in Lancaster County?
Yes, an old-time farming demonstrations show. Name is in the description.
what you do not see is how hot it is in the mow whooo sweat just running off you so when working on neighboring farms at lunch would offer you a beer i be 13 sure i will
In my youth I could have forked that load off faster than this demonstration.
Hmmmmmmm…………If every man standing around just grabbed a pitch fork they could have unloaded the hay wagon in half the time! LOL
This is outrageous!! So tired of people abusing horses this way!! Lets put you in front of a hay load. Janice
Looks like a total failure to me
well this is first time i,ve seen this donwe my grandad did this when i was a we lad in perry co indiana my how times have changed
I was the stack builder under a beaver slide in the Bitterroot valley in the fifties
Looked to me as a perfect case of disorganised Chaos combined with too many Indians standing around like Council Workers, and too many Chiefs pretending to know what they were doing. Horses were Beautiful and the only part worth looking at for me, otherwise I was Fuming at the incompetence.
... back in the day... I would do the job more quickly using a manual long fork ... and with additional benefits. More satisfaction at the end of the day!
When my family moved to northern Michigan in the early 60’s that’s how we got our hay in the barn.
still have the equpment in my barn in Michigan
We used simular hooks in northern norway in late 1970 mostly to get hay-silage from the silage to the silage pilecompartment to the goat compartment of the barn. The lifting was done by an electric 2000 pound winsj mounted on rails in the roof of the barn. and the same winsj was used for dry hay ore whatever else, say lifting the snowmobile up on the workbench if say the belt-engine needed service.
Dad would talk how did this, not say how got it to go left and right
AOC s green new deal . This is your grandkids future.
Awesome
Have any interest in selling that super c and mounted picker?
No, not currently, maybe in 10 years.
That's a nice hart parr with matching front and rear round spoke. Don't see them everyday.
My dad and my uncle had one of these and I operated one for years back in the 1960's. Just a tip but we learned that the center nose was completely optional. The picker will do just fine without it . . . as long as the corn is not all fallen over. Then the picking had to be done in one direction.
Where is this show at?

Anyone know what this kind of rake is called? I'm in need of something similar
Generally, this is referred to as a "side delivery", "basket", or "bar" rake.

What are the dems in the line shafts? How tall and wide once built? I need to make sure my beams on my mini machine shop are high enough before I order some.
Sorry, I don't know, it's not mine. The old machine shops usually had a fairly tall ceiling, I'd guess around 12 feet. You could scale that to match your machines.
The comment on trying to make the bales too tight is very true. I you try to make the bales too tight, it will break the twine, or cause missed ties. The twine is held by the twine disc and as the bale forms, the twine is pulled from the box. It has to be able to slide around the bale as it progresses. If the bale chamber is packed too tight the twine can't slide around the bale. So, it will either break the twine or pull it out of the disc, resulting no tie.
That ruins them poor ponies you will never be able to hook 🪝 to a wagon and go for a peaceful drive they will always be wanting to jerk and 🏃♀️ run.
The way things should be
I’m not going to this show for the next few years
Very good sharing 💞
