Showing how the Edit iPad Case I 3D Printed is Performing
So, in the last video, I modelled and 3D printed this case for the iPad Pro using PCBWay's service. It's been performing incredibly over the past few days, so I'm uploading a quick showcase of how I use it and what you might use it for. Of course, I'll do a follow-up in a few months to check if it's still working and maybe come up with a better design. I still see this as a prototype.

    Yes you can connect the iPad to Ethernet for NAS. Keep in mind the speeds of the NAS’s Ethernet ports though! The iPad usb is 10gbps or 40gbps, and many consumer grade NASs are 1Gbps networking. NASs with 2.5gbps are becoming more common, and the 2.5gbps Ethernet adapter from Anker is dirt cheap at $30. 10gbps networking NAS do exist, but that’s usually enterprise grade hardware. Personally if in budget I would recommend a NAS that supports Thunderbolt 3 for 40gbps. They’re significantly pricier than 1Gbps setups, but cheaper and faster than enterprise solutions.

    For those who wish to build this themselves, here’s a list of the components I used for the project. Along side a link to the project stl files (I do want to mention that the hub was exceptionally hard to take apart, so it might be worth modelling a different case around your own hub.) ( This is modelled around my M1 iPad Pro 11 inch btw ) Project Files : www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/Built_the_Edit_IPAD_I_ve_always_wanted_954a564c.html Affiliate links: Hub: amzn.to/3AY3QVr USB-C: amzn.to/3Zi96gZ CFexpress Type B Reader: amzn.to/3ZlAQRV Uni Accessories M.2 Enclosure: amzn.to/3Xmg9m7 I’ve seen some comments asking, or jokingly saying, "When will it be available to buy?" Personally, I’m more focused on spreading ideas and building things. I genuinely wouldn’t know the first thing about making this commercially available. That said, I truly believe in a more decentralized system where “Justin designed this thing, you print it on your machine, modify it, and share those mods with the community (attribution would be nice, haha).” This ensures you have full control over the product you “buy,” so to speak, and it keeps the passion intact, which is what makes gear or tech like this better. So, if you're willing to spend 300 euros on something like this, I’d say skip it. Buy a 3D printer instead and learn CAD-it’s the best investment I’ve ever made! and if the prints come out looking like S*** you can use PCBWay to print it in something awesome like resin ( This video was not sponsored but they do sponsor the channel and I've just been impressed by the quality they provide ) :)

    • @DrTheRich
      @DrTheRich Před dnem

      Just make sure nothing is writing the drive while taking it out. Then it wont corrupt whatever you do, you can jusr pull it out. The only thing eject does is checking if software is writing to the drive, and potentially stopping it

    • @FlatLanderTech
      @FlatLanderTech Před dnem

      As @DrTheRich pointed out its not necessarily something that has to be done its more as a double check so no worries in that regard on my end at least, during testing I've had moments where I was transferring files and disconnected power with a chain of hubs where it disconnected the drives and the footage was all still okay ( not that I recommend doing that haha, but its not like, one mistake and your stuff is gone )

    Apple Silicon performs exceptionally well on its own platform, particularly when everything is optimized to leverage its capabilities. This is evident even when editing videos in Final Cut Pro for iPad. I’ve also started editing on my iPad with the M4 chip because it is incredibly fast. Leveraging the best cables and fastest SSD’s over USB C (native on the latest iPads) just makes things so fast.

    • @DrTheRich
      @DrTheRich Před dnem

      I wonder if its not the chip, but editig software optimizing for Apple. Because the raw specs of the m4 chip are nothing extraordinary compared to pc processors or gpus. The main reason is x86 is not that well optimised in comparison to arm which is what apple uses. They have optimised the software to the CPU and GPU architecture. For raw power x86 is still king but the reality is most people don't need only raw power they need optimised software. AMD acceleration is also way behind NVIDIA so lightroom and Photoshop is just not getting as much hardware acceleration as it would from an Nvidia GPU. I use a AMD PC for gaming and video editing with a bit of photo editing but also have an M1 MacBook and the difference in photo editing is light years

      that's an awesome suggestion! im glad you liked it, i was indeed concepting this and am still figuring out how to rig that as theres usually only one power delivery port on these usb hubs. but i think something like an npf battery plate might work thats something for a next version :)

    Hey, I just discovered you channel and it's crazy how good your videos are and I imagine your subscriber count is a little underwhelming. I just hope you will continue making content and eventually you will have the amount of subscribers you deserve.

      Hey Stefan thank you for the support really appreciate it! I'm actually already really blown away by how things a growing right now and I truly appreciate the community! but I do of course have very big ambitions for the channel, I will do everything in my power to keep uploading at this pace and quality with some truly awesome projects already in the pipeline :)

      I'm glad the videos are received in that way! i really enjoy youtube in that way, you can go on netflix and watch people shoot at eachother all day or go on youtube and see people building stuff, talking about life, traveling, gaming, doing all sorts of fun things haha
