Black skimmers relax by the shore at sunset. This group arrived in Southern California during Spring migration. They typically congregate on local beaches until moving onto their breeding grounds in nearby estuaries, bays, and isolated beaches.

Great horned owl nestling gets pummeled by its sibling as it flaps its wings about in the tight confines of the nest. This behavior becomes more common as the time to fledge approaches. The owl exercises its wings to strengthen the flight muscles in preparation for the first flight off the nest.

Amazing footage! That looks like a huge fish (A fully grown/adult Smelt?) the bird caught! The fish was struggling, but the hungry Egret managed to fully consume (alive?!) it all okay? It looked like the unlucky thing was desperately kicking sliding down that long throat! I wonder, does the large fish stand any chance of escaping if eaten in that condition? Maybe it can turn around inside the elastic throat/stomach and has a chance of survival here.
