Building The Greatest Guitar (Hero) In The World 😂
I love Guitar Hero, but the game controllers were never cool enough. So @42Pursuit and I made the best controller in the world! Using walnut, maple, and 3D printed parts, we reverse engineered an original X-Box controller into a completely homemade wooden guitar.
Using @Autodesk @adskFusion Fusion, we were able to CNC out the pockets to house the 3D printed modular housing units that held the buttons and controller. I then went over to @BlacktailStudio to cover the wood with a UV cured special finish. We submitted this for the @themakercollab music themed competition build project, and although we didn't win, it has been the best build project I have ever made so far. Collab with @acai28 and @drewisgooden with @imklubb ?
Here is the link to my Thingiverse page if you want the 3D Parts. This took us 2 week to make the files, and another month of me building the guitar, so take your time: www.thingiverse.com/thing:6634049

Having used @Autodesk products for the last decade and getting a masters in architecture from @BartlettArchUCL I thought it would be great to turn an idea into reality. My design for highway sound barriers incorporates three major functions: to lower traffic noise, to find a use for fly-ash from coal burning and to enhance environmental factors. The structural strength derives from open cell bee-hive pattern constructed in panels capable of interlocking vertical structures forming a zig - zag to enhance stability and absorb wind load. The forms would utilize Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) instead of steel rebar for enhanced structural stability and longevity. The use of fly-ash in the cement instead of sand would alleviate proliferation of a troublesome environmental pollution problem. Each cell of the pattern would be large enough to encourage bird nesting. The bird nests would provide sound absorption material.

    Have you considered the production method known as centrifugal casting? It is often used in metallurgy and complex plastic shapes for casting, as it eliminates bubbles and ensures uniform thickness. The only thing left to work on is how it will function with your product's shape. It was very interesting to hear about your design process and final product; it is a very clever solution.

    • @JoeMakes

      Thanks, I looked into it but these bricks are rather large and had to be made with clay. But something to think about!

    • @Dmytro-S
      @Dmytro-S Před 3 dny

      @@JoeMakes Yes, I understand, clay is a complex material in this regard. I think you can to work on the molds for casting and the thickness of the clay. The clay should not be too thin because it will crack a lot during baking, and not too thick so that it can be poured properly (even with thick clay, the centrifuge will still distribute it well along the walls). There is a technique in ceramics called slip dipping, where the finished product is dipped into clay of different colors, thus applying additional layers, and then, after drying, ornaments are carved out. I think you can try to find a consistency with the right parameters for pouring into the centrifuge. Sorry for butting in with my thoughts; I often have to solve similar problems at work. After watching the video, some ideas came to mind, and I decided to share them. The project is cool, thank you for your video!

    It is great to see research money being spent where grads take so many other issues into account. "Build it and be damned" was a vanity which led to so many towns and cities suffering from unanticipated phenomena such as highly localized whirlwinds, concentration of reflections melting parts of cars (London) and the sonic funneling of so many built areas with very high and semi high buildings. You mention London parks but do not confirm that background noise of streets is very much reduced or loses rumble in most of them, even quite small ones. In contrast, the parks of New York tend to retain rumble over longer distances from the perimeters and there is quite a long reach of city surface sounds there. The city of Sheffield's parks have the New York problem except those abutting the rising strata towards the Peak District. The reasons are due to what the cities are built on and London is built on clay and shale. Now, take the persistence of low frequencies in the other cities and we can work out why city noise reaches further (given that all pitches and frequencies of sounds have sub-sonic harmonics. Cities on rock have street noise bouncing between buildings and funneling too but in London you can measure the same sort of bounce in streets yet parks are significantly quieter. The bounce and spring effect is important in the work of Helmholtz and his famous resonators are in fact springs themselves. He reasoned that sonic pressure is indifferent to air pressure and changes in 'packets' of waves. In his day there were no heavy motorized vehicles not on rails generating the low frequency basis for higher frequency low harmonics to adhere to. Street sounds would mostly be asynchronous horse shoes on cobbles and steel rims on carts etc. The good news is that sonic energy can be transduced into useful forms of energy (including electrical current) and this could have a reduction effect in such as streets, albeit not at subsonic levels. The bad news part is that your bricks would be unlikely to reduce medium low and low frequencies at the site but could conceivably slightly reduce mid-high frequencies. Their longevity would be slight if not glazed and polished and kept clean beyond thin algae and the right types of moss -- which themselves are sound and chemical pollutant absorbers as well as carbon chains. Fauna habitat sounds worthy but brings dirt and therefore neck blockage. Bird droppings alone are corrosive and destroy the glazing, allowing moisture ingress and expansion below -- 1C. On the other hand, materials scientists and civil engineers could build with or coat buildings with moss conducive materials for general, natural air filtering and the dampening of at least some sounds in busy streets but not more than just about measurably on the site in question. Finally, in studies of noise in cities, London's poor showing could be improved by removing all pure jet aviation from a high percentage of Greater London's airspace with exceptions for very quiet turbo-prob aircraft. Were the incoming government to pass this into law a clause would exclude turbo-prob planes not using 95%+ green fuel. Such aircraft could be used on an automated shuttle basis, thus allowing expansion of the UK aviation industry all over the realm and the large airports too proximate to densely inhabited areas diminishing or being re-purposed.

    "Architects may design a structure without considering acoustic issues" NO FUCKING KIDDING. See: every goddamned library Local politicians, donors, university presidents, school superintendents, all just LOOOOVE a flashy looking library as a campus/community centerpiece, and they love going for all kinds of wacky designs to make it distinctive. They love smooth, shiny surfaces, and they love curves. And what are the worst surfaces for making a space quiet? I've seen a school library in the shape of a wankel rotor with glass walls. I've seen one with concrete walls forming two opposing parabolas. At least the wankel rotor one had some of that afterthought sound deadening. The parabolic one had a hardwood ceiling. Only carpet on the floor did anything to quiet it. My favorite though is the reference room at the Chinese national library in Beijing. At least it's rectilinear. But it's a gigantic open void, with glass and hard surfaces all around. The only thing breaking up the vast echoes is the book shelves.

    The easiest way to use this, which I saw in a radio concert hall, is lining a wall with traditional red bricks turned to their side.
