LD Maui 28 G3 My Thoughts | Long Term DJ Review

Here are my thoughts about the LD Systems Maui 28 G3. I had a few points written down I wanted to cover but mainly just spoke my thoughts on the spot. There are a couple things I wish were a bit better but overall they have lived up to my expectations. If there is anything else you are maybe curious about leave it in the comments below and I'll do my best to help out! This was my first time usi...

I was super grateful to connect with Chris and Elena and do their wedding back in New England. I was planning on visiting family for a bit during the summer and had the privilege of doing this wedding while there. I hope to find more events there next summer as it's the off season here in FL. Even though it wasn't the biggest wedding everyone was warmed up and having a great time by the end. Ve...

Back at Sunken Gardens with a super fun family! They came to really have some fun. Sunken Gardens has awesome spaces and it's great for all sizes of weddings. There were a few last minute changes but everything went pretty smooth on this one! The camera work could have been a bit better but hopefully we will be able to get a couple angles going in the future. Thank you Troy for the help on this...

This was a super fun night with a lot of Hiphop, House and high energy Pop. We were at the Humingbird Gardens in Tampa. This family came to party! Thank you for the review it is very thorough. I own a pair of Maui 28g3 and the quality of the sound is what sold me. I have a couple of questions. After connecting bluetooth to one of the speakers is there away to connect by cable to the other 28g3? When i try the mix out it doesnt seem to work would liketo be able to use both speakers at the same time using bluetooth. Also you talked a little about connecting to from a mixer to the speakers no one has a video on the different ways to connect showing the cableing and the best ways to connect, such as do you run left and right out of mixer into one speaker and then mix L&R to the other speaker? How to cable in and out to another Maui sub or just another sub like EV 12" or 18" what would be the best configuration and no videos on cardioid setup and cableing. I've read about heard about it but no videos. Thanks again for your video and taking the time to make it for us it was the most informative i have seen and heard it was real, it was honest, and thorough.
you're welcome! happy it helped some, those are some good questions I'm going to do a video asap checking all them out but yea I think the mix out only works with stuff that is plugged in. I don't think there is a way to get 2 speakers to run the same bluetooth signal which is maybe the biggest downside to the 28s over 44s, got you soon, thank you!
Great review man! These seem like the best bang for the buck column PA out right now. I really like the style of them especially in white. I had a pair of Evolve 50 and used them for 6 years. Traded them away and then found a pair of Evox J8 for sale for basically buy one get one free so I picked them up. All of the columns in this category are rally close in comparison so it really is just style and price that is the main factors! Anyway love all your videos and keep it up!!
Thanks! Yea man I wanted them in white originally too but the place I had credit with only had them in black lol. I'm pretty happy with the black though too it matched the turntables nice. Yea it's hard to go wrong with any of them, it really just comes down to budget. I appreciate the support!
How was the j8 compared to the EV50
@@mixx_factory The tops of the J8 are noticeably more harsh and loud. It is good you can adjust them higher than the EV 50 to get them over peoples ear drums. The bass is about the same. Overall I would say the EV50 sounds a bit better but the J8 gets louder and can handle slightly bigger parties/rooms. But overall they are very close.
Wow man this has to be the best review video on these on CZcams!! I’m getting close to buying these myself and this is so helpful. I completely agree about why I’d get these and not the 44 G2 - these are wayyy more manageable for someone solo. And for bigger crowds I’d probably use different speakers or the traditional top and subs anyways! Also that’s great to know about the caution for placing things on top of the speaker grills. Great points and great video. Your videos have been so helpful as I’ve been doing research on these speakers!
That's so awesome! Def glad to hear it's a help and I super appreciate the support! Lmk when you pull the trigger on them.
Well done… Never easy doing a small gig like that, but I’m sure you brought your all and did a great job
Thank you! Yea it takes a bit more time to get everyone warmed up but we made it happen
Great Job........
thanks!
Quick question. How are you leaving your settings on the Maui 28 G3’s? Do you leave ‘em on 12 oclock or go beyond that?
yea I usually have both main and sub at 12 but I've gone up as much as 3 o'clock on both if I feel I need to push them. This video I'm pretty sure it was around 1.
@@letitdropent thanks. I just ordered them. Can’t wait to try em out. I hear they’re better than the EV50’s. Was just curious about the setting. And that’s good to know
@@Oceancityent oh awesome! yea the sound quality is great, enjoy them!
Great job 👏 keep going
I appreciate that!
Appreciate all the knowledge in this one!!! You are going to blow up man!! You are doing it right!!
That means a lot! I appeciate it!!
Damn man you have some serious skills on the decks!!! Well done! I bought a Phenyx Pro PTU-71 to try it out with my Everse 8 after watching this!
Thanks so much! Yea man not much out there in that size with 2 mics, never mind in that price range. Hope it works out!
Great job!! U had ppl dancing, im in Chicago, throw in some house music lol!!! Luv da dance music too!! Pepas, suavamente! Must haves!
lol yess I wish we could have kept rocking out on this one, we would of got there, they were ready to party, thanks for checking it out and showing love!
@@letitdropent no doubt! Take care!
Dope gig! Keep it up brotha!
Thanks so much bro!
Killed it again!
I appreciate that a ton, thanks for the comment bro!
Why they got you setting up in the Sun with all that expensive gear
lol yea most of the whole area is outside, it is a nice spot over looking the dance floor but next time need a cover
Weddings are rough!! 5 off big ups for doing your best even though you had some gear malfunction. Big lesson learned, bring back up, my brother!!! To me there wasn't a crowd to begin with so to get one person dancing when that many people is awesome. And just like i did people left but at the end of the night people came back and freaking partied. So good job for killing it!! I have a Wedding in naples in 2 weeks at a nice venue im looking forward to.
Thanks for checking it out and the good words bro! That's what's up you're on the gulf side with me, Naples is nice!!
Yo man I’m thinking of getting these to cover most of my events!! I’d love to hear your experience. How many guests do you feel like you can cover? How often if at all, do you feel like you need a bigger system for the events you do?
Yea man thanks for asking, I should do a video going over them in depth. I'd say 150 is pretty reasonable as a limit. Maybe a bit more or less depending on the space. Pretty much any indoor space they have been awesome even up to 5000 square feet. Outside gigs in wider areas are where they kinda fall off I'd say.
@@letitdropent You should definitely make a video review on them! I’m sure a lot of other people would be interested in hearing your experience as well. Oo that’s pretty good man I appreciate it. That’s pretty good for most events that Id do and pretty impressive!
Hello, I have the same system, but don't think that it can handle 150 people, yes, if those people sit quietly at the table and serve their food and drink, it can handle it, but at a party, people dance, shout, etc. when you have 40-50 people in the ring of dancing in front of the system, the sound starts to become a problem, especially on the bass side, separately I purchased a turbosound milan m15b subwoofer that works simultaneously with the LD system in order not to force the subwoofers of the LD system (I did not convert the LD system into satellites) and can cover about 70-80 people max on the dance floor, without this subwoofer I have to keep the volume of the ld subwoofers at +2 in front of the columns (12 o'clock the columns, 2 o'clock the subwoofers ld subwoofers) so that they can be heard well on the low side, now I the volume from the columns and subwoofers ld at 12 o'clock and the potentiometer at Turbosound also at 12 o'clock and I can cope with low frequency music (hip-hop techno-trance) max 80 people in the ring,,,!
@@ionitarazvan8320 thanks for sharing your experience! that’s great to know as well! At the price, are you still glad you purchased them? Or were you expecting more?
Just did a Wedding outside In nyc in the 80s no tent used a towel to cover my gear till I had to play , heat is deadly to our gear.
That's what's up! good tip man def I'll have to keep a towel or a cover on deck,
If I were at this wedding and the DJ played that music I would leave.😢
Yea music is subjective. I thought this couple had some really awesome and unique choices but they aren't everyone's taste. At the end of the day it's about celebrating the couple and who they are.
@letitdropent I get it. You can't please everyone! Reading a crowd and switching up styles / genres would be my plan. That crowd was not feeling that music! Be "prepared" to adapt. I hate hearing the same droll music that you hear on Top 40 Radio. There's so many good songs out there. Listen to the music and ask yourself, "is this a good dance track". It may be a nice song but is it a good dancable song. Critical listening! Help your clients make their playlist for a party, not a doctor office visit.
@@gsonn18 I think you are trying to help so I appreciate that but you are misreading the crowd from the video. I literally got tipped $50 mid set by a guest because they enjoyed the music I played while also honoring all the unique music personally picked out by the bride and groom.
@gsonn18 solid advice but I'm pretty sure he did switch up the genres a LOT. A lot of the go to classics were played which would work normally but sometimes you just don't get the crowd who are gonna go crazy on the dancefloor all night.
@@bengreenwood1734 I hear you both! I just hate the Classics and every Wedding Video that I watch plays Classic Shit and it just kills me. I really am trying to be helpful because I've been listening to a lot of music for the past 3 years. I've been putting together sets for Country, Dance, Pop, House, Rock, Hip Hop, R&B, Afrobeat & more. I make sure the tracks are at least a 7 out of 10 or they don't make the cut. I've trained myself to learn to pick tracks based on the genre - you're original/main music foundation mentality has to morph into a different musical understanding. If I happen to watch someones DJ video, I may or may not comment. I may be impressed or I may be dissapointed. My opinion is only my opinion! There are many things (songs) that I don't like that are very popular. I won't tell you I like your set if I don't like your set. Some will impress me - some won't. I'm not easily impressed. I see DJ's on CZcams that are really good at Scratching. If I put out a Scratching Video, those DJ's would not be impressed! Some might leave a critical reply! When I see a really good DJ, they make me step up my game! I have a high standard so I know that if I impress myself, then I'll be ready. And even if I don't impress the best DJ; as long as I impress myself - no one elses critical opinion will matter. If my comments make someone step up their game then that's good. If it pisses them off then Welcome to Social Media.
Homie DJing on a pair of TOSTITOS Baked SCOOPS! At that point I would've just DJed with just the slipmats. Good for you on persevering.
lmao! yea using just the slip mats crossed my mind too, thank you bro!

The control records can be replaced. But how do you get the array grill repaired?
yea luckily it was pretty easy, I made a video of it: czcams.com/video/C1IcuXnZ6xE/video.html
Kid, take your hands off of my stuff.
😂 yea he was trying to find something to bug me about
that would drive me crazy!!!! kudos dude
thank you bro!
Good video man! I have the Maui 28 G3s as well, and this video is really useful to me because i'm a hopeless messy. I'd like, if it is possible, to ask you some questions: during your events, How do you gain stage? I mean, how do you set your trim, master on the mixer and main, sub on the maui 28? How do you deal with the freaking limit light that seems to kick in too early with respect to the maximum headroom this speaker can produce? thank you in advance for you answers and keep up the great work!
Thank you! Glad it could help. I'd like to make another video about gain staging but generally I keep the main and sub knobs at 12 or 3 depending on how loud I need it. I've went to max once at an outdoor event. I live with the limit light, it's ok for it to light up off and on. It's not a limit for clipping but just means the digital limiter plug-in they have built in is in use. The red protect light means you are almost for sure clipping. I usually run my mixer as hot as possible during gain staging so I'm not tempted to creep the volume up louder than intended and run into the protect light. I would see my mixer running red well before the protect light comes on. Hope that helps!

Great video man, as someone else just kicking my DJ business into gear it was very insightful and inspiring me to keep better track of the money in and out, as well as to maybe give some thought to trying some of the same advertising tactics. I don't know what the economy is like where you're located but feels like the trajectory you're on and the work you're putting in that you could easily double that $1k mark sooner than later. Love the hustle man keep going!

@@letitdropent i actually replaced a couple up faders on a a couple pioneer mixers. It wasn't fun. But the worst is how much plastic they use. I bought a $700 djmt-1 one year and the cheap plastic side cracked . And I couldn't find the part for it
