    Thank you! My husband, Jack, has only had his 2017 qx80 for 6 months and he’s been stranded at least 4 times. Got 3 new batteries and 2 different techs at 2 dealerships told us they could find nothing wrong, no bad starter, no bad alternator…nothing. Hubby got stranded at the gas pump at Woodmans today. It wouldn’t start. He’s on his 3rd battery🤷🏽‍♀️. As he was in the automated cust svc loop of AAA, the car just randomly started so he came home. It won’t start again. I was researching reasons, recalls and how to fix it…and here you are!! We just clipped the red wire and it started right up. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I drove his car to an event at Lambeau field (120 miles from here) and was driving home at midnight and it stopped on me just as I was pulling into KwikTrip. Took AAA 3 hrs to get to me. I was rattled and I haven’t driven it since. So Bless you and thank you again!

    My F150 has direct injection and many engine experts recommended a oil catch can to keep the oily gunk from going into the intake. I did a Mishimoto set up and it works great, wondering if you think that would be a possibility with the 2.0 Macan?

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98 Před 14 dny

      @73NF14Ret Good question. 👍 I had a V6 3.5L ecoboost F150 for 10 years. You are correct that there are a lot of recommendations for adding an oil catch can to those vehicles. I never did add one, so while I have seen plenty of CZcams on the topic, I've no direct experience. A quick search on the web, and I don't see any aftermarket options for the Macan specifically, but the VW GTI does have options, and the 2.0L EA888 engine mechanicals are essentially the same between the GTI and Macan. I would suspect if a catch can help a typical direct injection turbo engine, it would benefit the MACAN, too. Thanks for the thought, I'm going to look into this further. Although I didn't add one to my F150, and I never experienced an issue in the fuel or intake system in my 130K miles of ownership.

Both times they tell me that the battery, starter, and alternator are all functioning properly. You would think that as often as this problem arises that the mechanics would know this issue. My car is still under warranty and now I have the knowledge to provide the dealership with the knowledge to make the repair. If they won't, I will cut the red wire. Thanks again.

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98 Před 15 dny

      @RichardLemmons-d4c Thanks for your comments 👍. Others have reported that their dealers will perform this modification, but not all will. I hope you have success with your dealer. As a temporary test, you could unplug the current sensor that is attached to the negative battery post. That is an easy to do and easy to reverse way to test if your situation is resolved by deactivating VVCS.

    This explains the same problems I am having currently and in the past with my 2016 QX80. Today it stopped starting all together. I mean it doesn't do anything, but light up the dash when I hit the start button. I tried jumping starting it several times, with no results. Do I just need to cut the wire, and then jump my battery off? The car is behaving as if it has enough battery to run and start, but it will not crank at all. What do you think?

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98 Před 20 dny

      If I were in your situation, I would have the battery fully recharged with a battery charger. If you don't have one of those, most Autoparts stores offer the service for free, but you'd have to take the battery out of the vehicle and into their store to leave it overnight. Once your battery is recharged and tested as a good battery, (auto part store can test it free also) then see if your QX80 starts as it should. If it doesn't, you've got another problem, likely the starter. If it does start normally, then cutting the wire as demonstrated in this video will help charge your battery more regularly and hopefully keep you from running dead again. Getting your battery fully recharged is the easiest and least expensive, so start there. Just know that your alternator isn't designed to recharge a dead battery very well. That's why I would use a battery charger and not jump start the vehicle.

    Hello sir, thanks for this video! I followed your advice a year ago, and things have been good. Lately, the QX80 sounded like it was cranking weakly, but I hoped I was imagining it.. Today I found my car dead after leaving work! Considering I definitely cut the wire last year, do you have any ideas what I can expect? Battery is only 1 year old, and battery gauge still indicates full charging.. Really sweating this, since I thought the problem was solved! Anyone have this come back? Thanks for any help!!

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98 Před 27 dny

      @samuelmurphy8692 Sorry to hear your battery is dead. The modification in this video disables VVCS so your QX80 can charge its battery like a typical car. Since your volt Guage indicates your alternator is charging, I am wondering how long your typical drive time is? The QX80 pulls a lot of power out of the battery to start, so it needs time to recharge what it took out. My QX80 has been working well since I made this change.

      @@jackharding98 Thanks Jack!! In the past year, I did have really short drive times, and some cold temps... I likely did a number on it. Luckily, my new commute is a solid 15 miles each way, so it should get more charge time. Also luckily, Napa warranteed this battery easily, getting me a new one for free! We'll see how this one holds up. I do believe the overall issue is fixed, and this was kind of a fluke... Thanks for your help and this great video. I believe the QX80 and its counterparts is one of the greatest overall vehicles ever built, and one of the only reliable full-size SUVs.. Cheers!

    What fuse does a 987 boxster have to heat the seats and the a/c?

    Anybody know where this wire is on a 2021 QX80? EDIT: It was in the same place as shown in the video...at least it all looked the same. I clipped the wire, charged the battery and the alternator is putting out 14.36 volts. Thanks for making this video!

      @douglaswilliams1792 You are correct, I should have just gotten a hose to connect to my funnel. I actually tried to do that, but I didn't have the right type of hose that would fit and stay attached to my funnel. You are right, though. I made this a little harder on myself than needed. Although, I still needed room to remove and install the fill plug.
