I come from a Reform and Conservative Jewish family (half Reform half Conservative) and have never kept Kosher. I have, however, has both shrimp and gefilte fish. They taste nothing alike, take my word for it. Shrimp is good choice for eating one non-kosher food (so is pulled pork).
