From Andrej's analysis, I understood a few things: 1) Tesla doesn't really have a good team for sensor fusion or signal analysis etc. So they are mainly playing on their strength while avoiding weakness. 2) Feels like Mr Musk's obsession on AI is one of the factor contributing to this.
I really wish there was more time for questions… whomever planned the time slot for this presentation failed hardcore by not planning for a Q&A session.

In order to reach level 4/ 5 autonomy, NN will need to be trained for vast number of edge case/ diverse data. Edge cases are significantly more on non- highway vs on highway. Does it make sense focus the efforts on edge cases on highways so that we get NN to reach level4/5 level sooner for highway only. This would be helpful specially bcz most of the road fatalities happen on highway.
I would never trust this "vision system", the way it fuses data from different cameras is very problematic and black-box.
using pure vision is simply not the right way.

Very nice and informative talk on a fairly basic level. It does sound as Tesla need a better radar, instead of getting rid of it. Isn't that possible to buy from someone else? Some of my colleagues worked on a car radar 20 years ago and they solved all the problems he talked about and many more (*). Even though they were way ahead of everyone else at that time, there should by now be others that have solved those problems after all these years with radars in cars. Strange. It sure is a big advantage with a good working radar in som cases. When to use it and when not to, is up to the sensor fusion system. *: The system was canceled due to change in company policy (all resources on core business, the military systems) and hardware cost.

FSD Beta 9 works very well. I haven't seen any mistake on videos. Mobileye seems to drive better in NYC, but it uses that stupid automatically created AV map, that adds more safety and wont need so efficient computer for teaching NN, because Mobileye dont have to focus statics objects, only moving objects
fyi in order to make use of AV map, you need to detect static objects in order to figure out localization problem.

Its not ready for prime time. Autopilot made a lane change cutting off a semi truck. fortunately I save it from an accident and jerked myself back into my lane before tragedy

If you watch the episode his landing is certainly "firm" compared with Tom's in "The 37's" which is a much softer landing.

I'm curious as to whether the FSDsystem is able to detect sound. I feel that we use our ears as well sometimes to gauge the sounds in our environment to direct our driving. Idk.

yes! I think that was the 2nd of four times that Voyager performed an onscreen landing.

Blue Alert also appeared in Star Trek 3 (Enterprise under tractor beam at Spacedock) and in the TNG episode 'Brothers' (in this case environmental failure).
Green alert would have been better for an environmental failure due to green being associated with the environment.
@@mikewolf5367 If only that would work. Green Alert is usually the default when no other alert (Red, Yellow, Blue, etc.) is active. Plus Green is usually associated with good, go, all clear, etc. which makes it not ideal to be used as an alert.
Every time I drive through a major European city during rush hour I realize how difficult it must be to solve FSD 😅 Its just jaywalkers and bikes running red lights left and right or bikes moving full speed towards intersections and not stopping until they are half way across the stop line. Yesterday a stopped bus in a bus lane on my right signaled that it was about to start and move into my lane. Only because I could see the doors on the right side of the bus were still open I knew it wasnt going to start - I guess a computer will have to learn this too 😅 Another thing is poorly marked construction work - especially lanes that are terminated in the middle of left/right turns with poor visibility 🤦♂️ Best case is that you can vaguely see a constructions sign through a bush or something, but otherwise a self driving car with no HD map would have no idea about this. Big respect for Tesla and the Autopilot team 👍👍👍
