I've been watching a bunch of old videos of Roy lately, and one thing keeps occuring to me: Roy loved watching and listening to his bandmates. You can catch him watching other players' solos intensely, over and over again. I am very grateful for the time we got to experience his amazing talent.
Booker Little, allmost forgotten by nany, but this young trumpeter was in ONE WORD FANTASTC. Keep on playing the trumper, wherever you are now Booker.
Never forgotten by me, Booker Little is my favorite trumpeter!! I listen to him almost every day, whether on one of his own works or as a sideman with Max Roach, Frank Strozier, Abbey Lincoln, Eric Dolphy, etc. I’m in touch with a grandson of his btw.

12 Bar Blues grooves aren't meant to be played at amphetamined tempos like this. It really detracts from the song, and it makes me think of the Russian conductor Dick Van Dyke gave pep pills to so Conrad Birdie could play his song "One Last Kiss."
