Caravaggio, On the Run in Malta
Having killed a man in Rome, Caravaggio fled the city and her authorities that wanted his head. He found refuge amongst the knights of St John in Malta, hoping to pay his debts to the Catholic church by producing extraordinary paintings. This video (which is part of a series) explores Caravaggio's chaotic story and magnificent paintings.

You are correct. Michelangelo is the greatest artist working with stone and marble that ever lived.
Michelangelo lived in a de Medici palace while he studied and practiced his art.
Gay? Not in the modern sense. Caravaggio was a rule breaker and pretty much anything taboo or illegal, he indulged in and partook of.
Wow. This video is superb. Professional-level narration, and very informative videos and imagery. Thanks so much
Super off topic but this guy sounds like FNC Boaster, it's awesome.
I clicked on your thumbnail expecting to see the Story of David... not a 10 minute selfie of you.
David got a big head! 😂
thanks
This was truly amazing in person. It’s surreal
Why did Michaelangelo Buonarrati not make him more well endowed down below?
Tricky Tricky time. 3 years ago? Shit. Just wait...

Thanks very helpful
I've copied many Modigliani's... about 100 now I think...when I know your soul I will paint your eyes ...
CARAVAGGIO IS FOREVER !!!
I JUST VISITED FIRENZE AND THE MEDICI CHAPEL IS AMAZING. ASTONISHING!!! IF YOU HAVE A VIDEO ABOUT THE PALAZZO PITTI LET ME KNOW. CONGRATS FOR YOUR WORK!
MARCHE, la regione di Piceni, dei Galli Senoni e di molti altri popoli magnifici.
I'm going simplify every tale, story or long explanations about Caravaggio's violent and irregular life and demise, in JUST ONE STATEMENT. NO ALCOHOL, NO MURDER, NO ESCAPE TO MALTA, NO PROBLEMS IN MALTA, NO SUDDEN DEATH. Over anything else, consumption of alcohol was the real culprit before that simple reasoning got hijacked by tv dramas and intrigue.
Bernini surpasses Michaelangelo. And please remember that all of these sculptures are machine drilled marble from and arm bouncing off a wax model, allowing the sculptor to up the scale of the finished product, but repositioning the fulcrum of the mechanical arm holding the drill.
I just think that he wasn't very good at eyes..simple.
The David is beyond perfection! Every single part, neck, arm, hands & the beautiful face is too awesome to contemplate. Michaelangelo is not of this world- way beyond genius. And in marble. And 17 feet! Unique in the globe! Dumbstruck!
Great video but you didn't say anything about the sculpting process itself? I assume it didn't just sculpt itself as soon as Michael seen it
URBINO is in UMBRIAAAAA
No. Marches.
Superior info. Thanks.
Just seen the movie Caravaggio’s shadow after watching this video and it was so useful hahaha! I understood everything :) thank you
Great
Very informative 😊
I went to the university in Urbino. Nice video. Urbino is in the marche regione. This regione is not as well visited as Tuscany but the countryside is very similar in appearance. Although not as big as Florence, Urbino has a very rich cultural history. It's the birth place of the great artist Raffaello di Sanzio. The Duke of Urbino was a great warlord of the Renaissance. His court played a major role in the Italian renaissance. He is buried with his son Guidobaldo in Urbino at the city cemetery of San Bernardino. My mother and father in law are also buried there in the same cemetery as are many of the citizens of Urbino of centuries past and more recent. If you have visited Italy and wish to return, go off the beaten path and visit the marche regione. You will not regret it.
So pleased to find your channel. I hope you will post more videos. Content such as this is sorely missing from YT.
Dear young man you are in the Marches, not Umbria!!!
Good presentation. When you visit you realise that this where architecture and sculpture merge, as you are standing inside the work. The individual pieces have not been placed randomly, they interact. They have sight lines - they look at each other. This is real 3D.
lol no Pm
Thanks you the very much interesting video and your narrative. Modigliani was a truly master. Who deeply capture the inside out of the people he painted as well the blindness in them.
That was a great video. It felt much bigger than your obvious budget. I particularly liked the script and the facts shared. It seems it get buried by the Google analytics gods. Subscribed. I hope you’re out there making other videos. Have talent.
His work is what I describe as DELICIOUS! Either you get it or you don't! I just LOVE him AND his story!
That's right I always pronounce his name incorrectly. I forget to drop.the G!!
All the old sculptural masters used wax models, taken from casts of their subjects bodies, the models then used as a template to guide mechanical drills, making the marble copy. All classical portrait art was painted from light box camera projection.
His work John the Baptist in the wilderness at the Nelson Atkins art museum is beautiful.
I find the muscles he sculpted in the bodies fascinating. How they suggest the ligaments ad bones beneath is a mind boggling achievement. He had so many talents to share with the world. I MARVEL AT HIS GIFT
Very interesting and informative video. Thanks from Canada 🇨🇦🌸🌸
💙💙
Maybe its simply that with the eyes depicted empty makes them more sculptural in how we experience and observe the image.
Where’s the sound?
David is beautiful
