Saddle Fitting: The Science Behind Your Horse's Comfort

Watch a saddle fitting session With Terry Sakai and Yukari (in training) from Peter Horobin Saddlery, measuring up Shalico. It was very interesting to see all of the factors that come into a well fitting saddle with a few light bulb moments. Basically, he said my saddle is an alright fit and will get me through the beginning of my dressage training but ideally I would be looking for a Stridefre...
10km horse trail ride with friends
zhlédnutí 115Před 21 dnem
Day 6 of having covid, nothing better for it than going on a 10 km ride to blow out the cobwebs. We also decided to go and check out the flooded track to see if there is a way through yet.
The best ride yet, water crossings, loping, jumping and then teaching the stop.
zhlédnutí 95Před 28 dny
Join Katherine and I on a 6km ride around the property. Long stretches of trotting and loping, water crossings and over some log jumps. Finishing off in the arena for some lope circles and starting work on our stops.

No hate but you need to cut the grass there will be snakes and I don’t want anyone or horses to get bit❤
Thanks for your concern. But as I can't predict future rainfall, the grass will get cut once the horses have eaten as much as they want without over grazing. Every bit of ground cover counts to protect the soil. It is rare for adult horses to get bitten by snake cos the snakes feel the vibrations and will go the other way. On the other hand, foals get bitten more often because they are curious.
That must feel really wild!
🤣
What a great video. 👍
seguro te están comprando quieren algo
yes, I was getting their new bale of hay. But sometimes they like the salt in your sweat.
That horse is WAY too fat to do this sort of intensive work. The horse being so overweight will struggle with this type of intensive workout …….
I appreciate your observations. But, if you go back and have a look at our previous videos you will see how fat he was when I purchased him. My vet said he was on the verge of founder. That was in late February. He was started in light work and has worked up to about 15 km a week of hill work plus arena work. His breeding is Lusitano x gypsy cob so he has a heavy build, he's not an overweight paint horse 😆 Did you read in the video how we have both been increasing our fitness to be able to get to this point? Apart from some trotting and warming up, this was the total amount of loping for this session. His first trail ride: czcams.com/video/t8MVcXTz9gk/video.html
@thehorselife24 You have done an incredible job Jane. I love watching your journey and progress. As the guardian of a heavy breed myself I can appreciate your hardwork and dedication to your boy. Keep it up Cowgirl.
Omg! You must be Australian in that sort of bush! I am in far north Queensland where are u?? (I am near Cairns) New sub!!!
Yes, down near Rocky. Have you found my channel? @thehorselife24
@@thehorselife24 Yes I subbed straight away😁
Thank you
Wow Jane. What an incredible transformation.
I think so too!
Commented before the end- looks good!
I think it looks fantastic. I've heard from a few people that some dye will come off. I need a full ride in it to see. Just but the stuff and do it yourself, it s lot cheaper than paying someone.
Reckon it’s better to come off on your rag .. not on your white breeches! I’m thinking of getting my saddle dyed … so this was interesting/
Hope he is on the mend….
he was better the next day 🤔
Amazing! Good on you guys!
Great idea.
What product would you like to learn about?
Nicely done Jane. Groundwork or pre flight check is a nobrainer for me personally. I liked the way you pointed out where his brain turned on. As you know recently during my pre flight check my girth broke so that saved me a lot of heartache that day.
Yes, many people don't see the importance of it, until either it's too late or they have a wow moment. No way I would have stayed on that surfboard if he tried any of that. 🤣
This is truly wonderful Linda.
Glad you think so!
And yes, the "other half" is watching.
@@chrissharrock7406 Ha ha
lucky you reiterated the important part!
How truly wonderful!
Thank you. Linda is doing a fantastic job.
Thank you so much Jane for those kind words, your support and your generous donation to sponsor an 'at risk' young person to complete the Horses Helping Humans program. 💙
You are so welcome
Nicely done.
Thanks!
Hey Jane, That was really interesting.
Thanks for the feedback
Nice
Thank you, it was a beautiful morning after nightshift
Nice
It really is!
Well it’s a beauty. Just when I had the money the time and place to own another horse I’m to old
Never too old 😁
Love your work, Jane
Bloody awesome mate!! 🇭🇲🍻
I love my tractor, I need to take advantage of those lights more!
@@thehorselife24 100% mate !!
This is an excellent video. Thank you. But I have a related question. Here it is. I have been doing this on my land for about 50 years and have a fairly mature dense working system of about 25 acres of pasture. I have posted writings about it and MANY videos for the last 12 years at least. I have traveled physically to the Alps and to Portugal for the purpose of studying it and posted about those trips, first having seen it in Peru and Senegal. I have traveled endlessly on line studying whatever I could find about acequias, levadas, bisses, Suonen, Andenes, socalcos, terraced landscapes -- all part of contoured farming and gardening. WHY? do my posts have so few views when a fine one like this one, within a month has 6.3 K views? I am NOT jealous, but I wonder why it is SOOO difficult to get the word out. See, for example one of my most watched videos. czcams.com/video/4P60vrSfrGs/video.html If there is ANY way to promote this technique you would be doing Gaia a great favor to share it.
I am just as surprised as you. Maybe it's in the titles. Most of my other videos have less than 100 views. I tried hard during our drought to push this stuff in preparation for when the drought broke but there wasn't much interest. All we can do is keep trying. BTW did you subscribe? I'll share the love.
Up here in America, we've been looking into various methods of rehydrating the land and controlling erosion. I live in Western Washington, which like Eastern Victoria down there is a rather wet environment, but we still use those rocks-in-cages as leaky weirs to help slow water and prevent erosion during flood events. Oddly enough, it doesn't have to be a tall rock barrier! There's a video on small rock "dams" in a watershed called Turkey Creek which made a huge difference between it and its neighboring watershed. There were simply a *lot* of these little check-dams set on Turkey Creek by the landowners, most of them only a couple rocks high at best. The results were significant enough that the USGS (Gelogical Survey) asked if they could do several studies on the differences, and came up with that video, which you can look at here: czcams.com/video/c2tYI7jUdU0/video.htmlsi=x0XSriV0qZltJF1_
All of the vegetation and native plants have been cleared. This causes the soil to release and become soft and loose as water flows quickly over. Combinations of stone and natural vegetation should remedy the issue completely and indefinitely.
Yes, you are right
4:20 could be fixed simply by stopping actively destroying the area with overgrazing.
I’d be so twitchy around the dam the horse would feel it and freak out.
Max would have your back!
Wonderful stuff 👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Great information. 😊😊😊
Thanks, some techniques are very interesting and very effective.
What a nice place to spend the day with your horse❤
Yes, we are so lucky to have this close to home.
Media Luna, One Rock Dams, and Rock Run-Downs. We've seen a lot of similar erosion in the Western States of the US, and found that using locally-sourced material, like the abundant rock, is very effective if you apply it correctly.

APRIL HOLDE! I MY BOYFRIENDS TRILPE H. 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍
Had to take more than a half hour to do all that. Switching buckets, digging sideways and two machines. My father made a custom swale skidsteer bucket. Can do swales With one bucket with one machine.
Actually it did only take 1/2 hr to dig the swales. After the contours were marked and ripped and once we started on the digging it was very quick.
Cool
Track excavator would have been quicker and neater over the whole length of the job
