The price of the adapters can be a little steep but it's worth it for people who can get a lot of use out of them. In the comments some people have come up with alternative ways to use non-cricut pens.
That's crazy how so many dudes can do this, a girl made abt 100 pop up cubes, and i can't even make one
I think the hardest part is to get the right tension of the rubber band relative to the paper weight. I used heavier paper because there is less chance of the rubber band tension being too tight. When it's too tight the cube won't pop up or the cube will crumble into itself. Trial and error ...

Do you know if the cuttlebug works with 3D embossing folders?
Yes! I have been able to use embossing folder from different brands and my personal favorite is the 3D Embossing folder from Lisa Horton called Magnolia. The hardest part is finding the right combination of plates to make it work.

What are the settings to get it to draw then cut out on a maker? Preferably using design space on an iPad (as far as I can work out it looks pretty different on the computer)
Hi! Sorry .... I don't have an iPad but the setting might be very similar. I know that the tablet apps might be different too. Try searching youtube for something like draw with your cricut using an iPad.

I did not cheat ... lol. I used thicker paper that could handle the pulling of the rubber band. Use thicker paper next time if you are interested trying again. Happy Crafting!

Try it! It's a nice alternative to embossing ... and a good use of the foiling tool. I always had trouble getting even foiling so I'm glad I can use it for this. 😁

I have never used it but other cricut users have. It's an alternative if you don't have a cricut maker. 😊 happy crafting!!

Hi! It's just craft foam. That way the paper is sitting on something soft. It allows the tool to create a deeper indent. Hope that helps!

For this particular embossing folder ... yes, it is normal for me to use the B plate. I use two for this. It really depends on the folder you are using and the machine. A little bit of trial and error goes into using embossing folders and various plates. I hope that helps!

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I do not have a tutorial on how I did the embossing. I used my Old Cricut Cuttle bug, an embossing folder, and a couple of pieces to help feed it through the machine similar to how it's shown in this video: czcams.com/users/shortsolDIWAyBbI8?si=sdzZ2KUmqxweVUzp The Cuttlebug is discontinued but there are embossing machines that are similar to it that can be used.

Hi! For any kind of pop up mechanism I like to use at least 100 lb cardstock because it is super sturdy. I am addicted to stardream metallic paper which is 105 lbs cover cardstock. 😊 I hope this helps! Take care and let me know if you have more questions.

@josephinediaz4377 ... no worries! In my video I was using stardream metallic paper. However, you can use whatever paper you want as long as the weight is right. Another side note ... 100lbs cardstock is about 270 gsm. 😊

How to embose this
You will need a die cutting and embossing machine. There are these things called "embossing folders" that the paper is placed in and then it is fed through the machine. Most machines are manual. I did a quick video when I first got my machine. Hi! There are two different mobile apps ... the Cricut Joy app that is very simplified, and the Cricut Design Space App that is more robust. Cricut Design Space app for mobile is a lot like Cricut Design Space app for the desktop. So the mobile app can do things like this video. 😁 hope that makes sense! Lmk if it doesn't!
