    I had a serious concussion in 2014, falling HARD on ice, violently whacking the back of my head. Nothing was the same. I couldn't speak, remember conversations, read(including recipes), spell, do math, etc. My aphasia came at a bad time; I was raising two teen girls with PTSD. Damn!!!!

  • @robertmiller3810
    @robertmiller3810 Před měsícem

    I’ve had 12 concussions where I was knocked unconscious. The first one happened when I was just 10 months old by falling down a flight of stairs and hitting my head off a concrete wall. The next one came at 7 years old when I got hit by a car and cracked my head off the curbing. Unknown to me, the damage to my brain began showing up in my school work in 2nd grade and failing grades. Little did I know Aphasia was the cause till I tried to write my autobiography. I’m 81 now and still have trouble with words and spelling them. If I’m looking for a word I know but can’t remember it till I stop to think and finally come up with it. It’s not that I can’t remember it, it’s that I don’t remember it. I know it’s there, I just don’t know how to remember it. If I’m talking to someone and the word I wanted to use isn’t there, I’m forced to use a different word. So life keeps moving on with missing words.

      Having a stroke and aphasia is so challenging but you are not alone. Aphasia doesn't impact your intellect or your memory... it's an access problem...getting to the language you need to communicate your thoughts and ideas. Please consider joining an aphasia center, or groups that are either in person or virtual. Let us know if we can help find you somewhere. answers@aphasia.org

    The older we get, the more frailties come to the surface and more aware we are of our deficiencies. These neurological issues are the worse because they inhibit your ability to deal and manage your shortcomings and possibly catch them early on in its development. I've started to develop these symptoms myself and I'm only 47 years old but my ability to fluidly communicate with people either through verbal or text has seem to hit a barrier like the person said in this video.
