Hey! Great questions. You can book your own flights to/from Japan for whenever you want. I arrived in Tokyo 1 day before the tour started so I can adjust to the time zone and do my own thing before the tour started. So, it depends on how early you want to arrive. If you arrive a day or more earlier than the tour starts, and/or stay after the tour ends, you will need to find your own accommodation for those extra nights. If you arrive on the day the tour starts, but book your own flights, you don't have to find your own accommodation since you are arriving on the first day of the tour. However, you will need to find your own transportation to your first hotel in Tokyo from the airport, and from your last hotel in Osaka back to the airport, since EF doesn't provide transport for those who book their own flights. I would suggest asking your tour director to help you arrange transport via your hotel, or you can book a cab ahead of time through the airport I think. No, EF books all your transport during the actual trip. That's awesome! I think going in fall will be pretty cool because it shouldn't be busy with tourists. The hotel in Hakone should have an onsen, but I am not sure about tattoo rules. Some hotels are more flexible, while others are more strict. You can check with your tour director regarding the hotel rules. You can also try going to a private-room onsen on one of your free days in any of the other cities. They're a bit pricey but you get your own single onsen room for an hour or two. I would have gone to one in Hakone since we were there for 2 days, but I had no time. The yukata at the hotel was just to wear to dinner, although they do sell them in the hotel gift shop if you want to take one home as a souvenir. Feel free to check out the 6-part Japan series where you can get a detailed day-to-day breakdown! Some things in those videos have been changed, though, which I covered in this trip review view (1 less day in Hakone and Hiroshima, no more overnight stays at the monastery).

I have done it on my EF trips and have never regretted it 😄. Going on your first international trip, especially solo, can be a bit scary, but EF helps make it a less scary and more fun experience. Hey! If you are between the ages of 18-35 then traveling with EF might be a great trip for you. You'll get to travel with people in your age range and the best part is EF books everything for you. You won't have to worry about what to do because there are many activities throughout the days, so even if you go alone, you'll be with a big enough group where you can make friends :). That's so exciting! You are going to have a blast. Day 1 was pretty chill - I think we all arrived at the airport around 7 or 8am, and then went to the hotel to drop off our stuff and have breakfast. From there we were taken on a tour around Reykjavík, had some time to shop, then back to the hotel to rest and freshen up, and ended the evening with a welcome dinner (2:08-6:00). Hey! I arrived a day earlier than everyone else so I had to book my own transportation to the first hotel in Tokyo. I took a cab so my luggage was with me. If EF is booking your flights, you will meet either your tour director, or an EF representative when you land. They will help coordinate travel to the first hotel either by the coach bus, or by cab in small groups (2-3 people). There will be one or two times during the trip when your luggage is forwarded from one hotel to the other, and that's whenever you take the bullet train. The tour itinerary has changed a bit since I went on the trip, but I do talk more about this in my Japan Tour review video if you're interested :). Thanks for watching 😊. This online queue didn't exist yet when I was purchasing tickets (a year ago), so I am sadly not able to give a recommendation of how long. My suggestion is to try to test it a few hours before the queue opens, just to make sure you have a good spot. When I was recording the queue portion for my video, it made me wait about 30-50 minutes and when I got in the queue, there were tickets still available. It depends on what you're looking for in a trip, but for me it was - I took advantage of the Black Friday sale and was able to save a lot, and the tour itinerary itself was pretty good. They have since updated it (which I cover in the video) and think it's even better now. What I also liked is that everything was pre-planned for us, and the transport between cities was taken care of. I also didn't know anyone prior to this trip and ended up meeting some pretty cool people 😄. It made the experience more memorable for me than if I were to go on my own without a tour.

@@TravelsbyAlexif you don’t mind me asking how much did you spend in total with arriving early, single room upgrade, pocket WiFi etc.?

In total I spent around $6,200, which includes the EF tour package, my own flights, one extra night at the hotel, pocket wifi, cabs, daily spending (gifts, museums & attractions, food, etc.) I also splurged on some souvenirs and big ticket items, including a professional photoshoot with a local photographer. Had I not, then it would have been lower 😂
