How An Airline Pilot Packs
A little long, but here’s a video explaining how I as a crew member pack for a 6 day trip with the airlines. I hope you enjoy and thank you for watching.
My main bag is a LuggageWorks Stealth Air and my lunchbox is a AeroCoast Pro II cooler. The bag I’m referring to buying is a StrongBags Vortex 21.
I got my packing cubes, pill container, and light down jacket all on Amazon. I got my luggage from Crew Outfitters and ordered online.

How did I just find this? Perhaps because packing hasn’t been an issue…until now. 😊

No room for jacket? Surprised that crew wear same cloths for mor than a day. Airline should provide you fresh cloths.

I always cary 2 medium size strong zip lock bags. In case my hotel doesn't have any fridge, I just fill them with ice cube from the vending machine and I'm good for the night. keeps my lunch box nice and cool

Loved this video. I've watched it 2-3 times through as I prep for this new lifestyle. Rep that RTAG swag... Classic. Thanks for taking the time to show those of us not yet "in the how" how it can go!

There are a lot of good tips in here, particularly bundling the undershirts/socks/pairs of underwear, and using a laundry bag or an empty packing cube for dirty laundry. Thanks for sharing.

Good stuff in here, thank you so much!!! Question, at about 10:50, you say to not put the suitcase on the bed for bed bugs (which makes sense), but I see the travel cubes for our clothes on the bed (I have these and use these too) If you put the packing cubes on the bed, and the packing cubes are likely to make it onto our beds when we get home and unpack, wouldn't that be more likely to potentially pick up bed bugs that way? (as opposed to the suitcase on the bed being the "outside layer" so to speak and keeping the cubes safely inside the suitcase as a sort of barrier) I think I'm missing something here and hoping you can help me shed some light, thank you!!! (coming from a fellow pilot by the way!!!)

It was only on the bed for demonstration. I normally operate out of my luggage.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU OPERATE OUT OF YOUR ANUS AS WELL. YOU MAKE LIFE SEEM SO HARD??! AFTER 30 YRS AS A LONG HAUL GUY I NEVER HAD TO CARRY AROUND AS MUCH JUNK AS YOU DO. YOUR BAGS ARE MOST OF THE BULK. MOST OF WHAT YOU CARRY IS UNNECESSARY AND THE PACKING CUBES TAKE UP MOST OF THE VOLUNE OF YOUR BAG. PLEASE STOP MAKING THESE VIDEOS. YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3 Tie two or three colored ribbons of different lengths around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it. Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the turnstile... Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long. Cut the ends at 45 degrees then seal the end with one drop of Super Glue to prevent fraying. If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/2” or so, they will all show up no matter how they drape. Tie the 3 ribbons as if it were one ribbon using a man’s half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 6” from the handle. A longer ribbon shows up better. You can see it from 40 feet away. Perhaps tie two handles, top and side of the case. Tie the ribbon sandwich to the metal buckle part of the handle or to a metal loop on the case. This way, it won’t slide around. Put your phone number on one ribbon using a permanent Sharpie. Example: “Owner 454-333-7878” Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. Lay all 3 ribbons on top of one another. Then tie them as a group with a HALF WINDSOR KNOT, which is the same as a man uses. Stand by the output hole port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing the piece. Tie your skiies, duffel bag, and what ever with matching ribbons-even your computer case. If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself. Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible. Pleasant color combinations: Red and blue Chartreuse and purple Orange and light blue Orange and yellow Gray and pink Green and yellow Red and Green Red and Gold The third ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan Tip #2 Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like”. Tip #3 Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape...

Yup, never put anything on the bed, but only your butt!! Use the metal luggage stand and always place it against a connecting em door if you’re stuck in that type of room. Another trick is packing each day of underwear in a large ziplock bag per day. I don’t miss the days of having to carry food to/from a crash pad or on the road. 100% glad those days are gone.
