Tin Man Lee - Wildlife Photographer
United States
Registrace 18. 10. 2011
Welcome to my CZcams Channel. 5 years ago, I quit my 9-5 corporate job as a bioengineer to pursue my passion in wildlife photography. I hope to take photos that move people so that people care about wild animals. Now I travel the world and teach people photography. I'm honored to have my photos winning Nature's Best Photography and displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. Recently I'm invited as contest judge for Bird Photographer Of The Year and Nature Photographer Of The Year. In this channel, I share my life as a full time photographer, with gear review, techniques and tutorials.

So fast shutter, low ISO, high apeture, no tripod. Got it.
First and foremost, I'm an all-around traditional fine artist who also works in digital art and multimedia for 30+ years. I have always enjoyed taking photos of wildlife and nature and painting them however I choose through self-expression. The same goes for when I edit my photos. No one's going to tell me what's right or wrong when it comes to artistic expression, whether through fine art or photography. I'll express my art however I choose because I choose to be different than what everyone else does.
What about the asus proart? Is that good?
Thanks Mr Lee I was going to sell my 500 f4 but after this video I agree with all you said I just needed to hear it again. 🎉
@@warrennelson825 500 f4 is awesome. Why do you want to sell it? Is it because of the weight?
Awwww such a peaceful trip ❤
In short : Buy expensive gear. Gotcha 👍
I'm so sorry about your photos. Thank you for the information.
You are a great teacher ..
Absolutely awesome. Well done!
I really like this video and I agree in all your 7 ls. Thanks for the advices! This is "teaching". Thanks.
Brilliant story telling Tin Man and also beautiful images 😮 thank you
So basically you’re saying we all need a prime lens. Not everyone can afford top end kit, but I’ve seen many, many, many examples where perfect shots have been achieved with lesser kit. Shan’t be following your channel that’s for sure
@@andyquittelier19 ultimately it’s the photographer’s creativity but with a f6.3 or 7.1 lens you put yourself in a disadvantage in low light condition such as predawn when animals are more active. You can still get the shots but the image quality will be much worse. It’s about the light and one can’t fight physics. I’ve used consumer zoom lenses for ages until I realized it’s really a scam. Those weren’t good for low light
For many yrs I shot the Nikon 300 f2.8 with the 1.4, 1.7 and 2.0 converters with a 70-200 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8. I used a FF and a APS-c body that made this combination very flexible.
Extremely interesting and very helpful. Thanks a lot.
Thank you very much for sharing ❤❤❤
I’m curious to know if noise reduction software would be a no no in a contest.
Thanks for sharing as I couldn’t tune in on time.
I am so pleased to see this recorded and on CZcams. Even for me as an elephant lover, I learnt things from Federico
What you say Tin Man Lee makes a lot of sense. I have experienced exactly the same with my 150 - 600mm lens on my recent trip. Thanks for reinforcing my thought. I am now going in for 400mm f/2.8.
awesome
Great tips! Especially the last one about Limiting Belief. I particularly enjoyed your stance on baiting animals and calling birds.
Every photographer should watch this ❤
Hi, love your videos and I’m learning a lot! Thank you! Do you have any preference between an f2.8 70-200 vs the much light f4 version ? Thanks! 😊
Always 2.8 because you get an extra stop of light into your camera which is beneficial in low light situation.
Good on ya Tin Man! Ad hats off to Margo for great work.
10:38 Jake Davis?
Excellent.. Thank You
could you share the settings of the last 2 photos (B&W lions), thank you
Sir I like to enter the bird photography. Currently using Sony APSC with 17- 70 mm Tamron for my travel phography. Nikon Z8 with 400 mm 4.5 lens will be ok for my travel & bird phography? Always looking for yours sugesstions before any investment in this world.
Great information.
A purist who still sees the craft as art & insists on treating it that way is so rare now. Major props sir.
Great info. Thank u
and now an $800 junker runs Topaz, PS and LR just fine. Man things have moved forward.
Thanks!
Brilliant!
Nicely done Tin Man - great story with amazing shots. Well done.
Thanks!
Awwww thank you so much Nancy!
nothing speaks louder than experience, thankyou for sharing and helping me to make up my mind.
Soo happy you mentioned “lying to yourself” i am more in portraits but never like it when things are staged. It must be real. Thanks !
100% Manual mode is the best once you get a hang of it! 🎉
He look cold as fuck when he looked up😎
🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎
I know the feeling - not on the same scale but I get it. Awesome video.
Hello Tinman, I so appreciate this advice, however I am a bit conflicted about the editing part. When you take an image in RAW, it is the photographers responsibility to bring it back to life as seen thru the viewfinder, I’m not sure why the photographer would be penalized for this. Also I do agree that full frame wildlife images can be incredibly, but sometimes as a wildlife photographer you are being ethical by keeping your distance from certain dens, nests, etc and would need to crop to enhance the viewers experience 😊 I so enjoy your tutorials, thank you 🙏🏼
love your ethics regarding photographing animals
Great info many thanks for sharing your knowledge,so happy to learn about sharpening
You won me over with the chart on the extra minutes a faster lens affords you. 👏 Now to find some money…
very nice explanation of the artistic elements making it into photography and conveying the message. Haven't seen anyone speak so nicely about it. on the other hand I could as well summarize the conclusions here as: 1) buy a lens worth a car 2) move to africa or travel the whole world 3) develop your artistic vision once the gear and subjects are on point. otherwise it's a waste of opportunities, time and self-realization in photography. if you use a .. f5.6 zoom or some other crap like that.
So the judges are looking for portraits of animals, not stories of animals in their native habitats.
Pretend like you are a reptile!1
