Gasped when I saw TimeSplitters 2, my favourite videogame of all time.

I always find it odd that nobody ever mentions that the Flatwoods monster has multiple appearances in the Wild Arms series I'm not going to actually try to spell the actual monster name but it's odd to me that I've never heard anyone make mention that the Flatwoods monster appears in Wild Arms an old JRPG on the PS1.

The Kraken from Splash Down probably started my fear of sea creatures since I played the game when I was like 4 years old

Fellow commenters, please help a pal out. I've known about the Payday 2 Nephilim easter egg (Yes, they are Nephilim, not Cthulhu, there are in-game mentions of the Nephilim and they're actually quite vital to the deeper lore. Yes, it's weird) for a while, but I have NEVER been able to actually see it. Is there a way you're actually supposed to get into the back courtyard? As far as I know that's an out of bounds area, isn't it? I've stared out that direction from the two balconies as well as the room right above the storage/vault room and NEVER seen it in the lightning strikes. Is there a trigger? Is there some special way you're supposed to get outside to reach where the video shows? I'd love to see this event in-person so if anyone knows how you actually do it, I'd love the help!

I remember being absolutely traumatized by the boss battles in Hugo The Evil Mirror where you had to fight Scylla's big ass ghost face in an empty void or running away from her.. to this day I remember her face slowly coming out from the shadows and her laughter. And the 2nd mention is the level in the Smurfs PS1 game where you had to ride on a rabbit with a nightmarish music playing, also I remember this level having an unnerving atmosphere cus it was dark and raining

The figure in the sky for the Payday 2 easter egg is in fact a Nephilim as they're featured in payday's deeper lore rabbit hole. Even a sled dog driver who had his heart torn out by the Nephilim. The existence of these in Payday's lore is tied to the Dentist character.

In the church in Mad Monster Mansion, I did a very creepy thing as a kid where I had one health left and hit the Witch Switch in the rafters. I guess I was too high up and I died but instead of getting sent back to the beginning of the level, the witch switch cutscene played out and it showed the whole lost a life thing. When I regained control, I was still in the rafters but the music wasn't playing. Ever since then, I always made sure I have health because it scarred me.

The Timesplitters one just sounds like you forgot to have lunch

I remember feeling quite unnerved when i first entered the World of Nothing in Super Paper Mario. something about the music just creeped me out when i was younger.

Outside of Splatoon living bad endings up I miss when games have unsettling bad endings Speaking of bad endings, I don't remember the name but it involves trying to save a woman named Jennifer who had a parasite inserted in her brain and you have to beat the game before she basically becomes a zombie

Funniest thing about the PayDay 2 one is that it's technically canon to the actual lore of the game. Like by that point in the story those giants have been mentioned multiple times and are tied to the main story. Many people don't know this but PayDay's lore just gets INSANE at some point and just has full on supernatural elements, it's pretty cool (and weird)

Heres a suggestion. In the original Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, in the map Zomboss Estates if you look into the woods you could see slenderman standing there, eventually an update came out and he was eaten by a chomper. However the idea of slenderman watching the battle is unnerving

Here's a suggestion: Majora's Mask (I know) has a song that Link can play called the Elegy of Emptiness. The statue it summons is so creepy, multiple creepypastas were written about it INCLUDING BEN Drowned, which is where I assume you first heard of the Song of Unhealing. As a kid I was also scared shitless and always has to ask my siblings to complete those puzzles for me...

deus ex did not predict september 11th. the skyline you see in the game is the brooklyn skyline and people keep mixing it up with the manhatten skyline. the manhatten skyline actually exists in the game with the world trade center, but it was one of a few visuals of the liberty island level that never load because of a programming error. It can still be modded back into the game, along with other elements such as a starry sky and a 3d moon. and also, no npc ever mentions the WTC being blown up by terrorists. there's only vague mentions of terrorist attacks happening all across america and the world. to this day, this false story still gets spread across the internet thanks to drones like you

As someone who never played Stardew Valley I find the whole getting rid of your kids with magic mechanic creepy. Definitively not something I'd expect from a game everyone describes as comfy.

ALSO ALSO, Starshine Legacy 😂 Nobody recognizes this game by title, but it's a very short 3D game for girls where you play as a school girl with short red head who realizes she can understand horses, and there's an ill scared white horse who tells her he's in great danger and that she must save him, so you eventually sneak out at night to some corrupted shadow kidnapper base where you must rescue the horse, it was really wild for a kids game 😂 But the worst part to me was a night section in school, where you had to pass a janitor who was on patrol, he was a big burly man with a flashlight who hummed to himself some creepy tunes, that was basically my introduction to the "don't get spotted by the monster" horror game genre 😂 As well as gave me an irrational fear of janitors.

This is absolutely going to get buried, but I have to bring up the ruined future from the second Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. Because what the HELL was that story?? An apocalyptic future where the god of time goes completely insane, the flow of time collapses and the world is turned into a dead, monochrome darkness forever?? And don't even get me started on Dusknoir, that guy traumatized me as a kid. The writers definitely had some massive balls to include a scene where the villain orders your execution and tries to have Sableye claw you to death (which actually starts to happen and the characters just sort of have to withstand it until their bonds break). It was a REALLY grim story for a Pokemon game, and the first time I saw the ruined future something changed in little kid me's brain chemistry.

Okay so, I do not remember what scene or where this was because I was so young, but in the Meet the Robinsons ps2 (ps1?) game, there’s a scene where Wilbur is running up stairs or something and this black goo is filling up the room and if you don’t make it in time he drowns? Maybe it was fever dream but I swear that happened and it terrified me as a kid. I’d always watch my sibling play and they struggled with that level and I was so scared. EDIT: Also!! The Shrek GameCube game terrified me because there was a level where you were in some kind of graveyard or something. That entire game just freaked me out. There was a scene where you had to hide in a jewelry store, that also terrified me.

Also, not sure if the Polish Scooby Doo games are popular in the states or not, but I'm telling you, they ALL had jumpscares 😂 Of course, it's Scooby Doo, but there's one game that I couldn't finish as a kid because close to the end you must choose the right gravestone and when you choose wrong the main villain pops up and scares the gang away from the graveyard. The heart attack wasn't worth it for little me 😂

As a child I hated the official Disney Donald Duck platformer. I dont rememeber why, but it had such a hostile atmosphere. After killing the first boss which was just a giant chicken(??) I never played the game again.

I remember being freaked out by the fight with Marx in Kirby Superstar Ultra for the DS. The way he sprouts bat wings and gets fangs was already unnerving, but when you defeat him his jaw unhinges, he's cut in half (no blood of course, but still), and it gives the most awful scream I had ever heard at the time. Also, I'm not sure how creepy this one is since I think it's actually really cool, but I know you can encounter the headless horseman in Skyrim. He has a very specific route, but I imagine that I would be terrified if I encountered him randomly. The Fallout Series also has a TON of H.P. Lovecraft inspired easter eggs, although at this point they've weaved themselves into their own plotline. Love the video!

I have a few scary things in non scary and or kid games Scooby-Doo and the Spooky Swamp: Since it's Scooby doo it's kinda supposed to be "scary" a little, but it's for kids and these few things scared me when I was a kid. 1: Anytime "Lila's Theme" played, it plays whenever the character Lila is in the scene or mentioned most of the time, it makes me kind of scared but in a disturbed sad way?? 2: El Scaryachi, the first boss of the game, mostly when he plays his creepy harmonica tunes and the creepy soundtrack that plays when you make your way up to the place that activated his chase sequence. 3: On the level where El Scaryachi is, there's the pinata enemies that grossed and creepy me out as a kid. They place like Minecraft creepers in the sense of don't go near them too long or they blow up, but they just make weird ass noises and start vibrating before they blow up. I remember avoiding going near them whenever they were nearby they just freaked me out. 4: The Giant Yeti boss bigfoot like sightings you get in the snow area, you get glimpses of its shadow in the blizzard before going out of sight. Also just seeing remnants of its presence (the footprints at the lodge and broken gates) is creepy. The Simpsons Game: Not at all a scary game but some points creeped child me out. 1: The video game slaves, seeing Mario and Sonic (Sonic especially stuck with me) being forced to work gave me the creeps. It somehow gave kid me the same vibes of the cyborg Mickey mouse characters from Epic Mickey for some reason? Looking at the gameplay of the Simpsons Game idk why kid me thought that. 2: Sherri and Terri The Shining Easter Egg(?): I cannot find any clips of this but I remember in the vide game level where you play multiple video game parodies, if you go to one of the golden elevator doors it opens up to show the twins Sherri and Terri. I believe it does this exclusively to Lisa cuz I remember both saying "Come play with us Lisa" both me and my younger sister were kinda freaked out at that.

Loved the first THe Sims and the spooky stuff happening. Zombies, ghosts, clowns, hords of bunnies, prank calls...

A game that terrified me as a kid was "Alien Tales" or "Reading Galaxy". it was a "Kids learning game" developed by Broderbund, almost everything about this game scares me. the Chilling wonky music, the Aliens it starts off with an eerie phone call, then you find yourself on a gameshow filled with Aliens, you need to play minigames to prove Humans wrote novels like Tom sawyer and not the Aliens, besides the phone call, The music gets scarier if your time is almost up, the clock will even come to life and jumpscare you. out of all the aliens Per hince of pursuh Terrifies me, he gets in your face with these horrendous Red eyes, and if you beat the aliens, they get put in a torture machine that smooshes them into a sludge/ Smashes them into a caterpillar/ rips them into tiny living pieces etc

The payday 2 easter egg we know isnt Cthulu in the distance but something called the Nephillim you can also see it in a picture on a few other heists and has some vague background lore

I love Pikmin 1's bad ending, having Olimar die and become a Pikmin. It's a lot more impactful if you put more thought into Olimar's life, such as the fact that his family would be abandoned and no one would know exactly what happened. Also the water wraith from Pikmin 2 exists

Not sure if you talked about the creepy hands in the River Twygs from Super Paper Mario. The audio is reversed, but I don't remember what was said. It was cries for help, if I recall.

when i was a kid there was this built in battle royal mode on my xbox 360 that definitely unsettled me as a kid. No one ever joined so it was just super empty, except for this one time when someone joined but they left after a little bit. also in fable two, some of the areas got very quiet and i could here a high piched voice talking and i was super weird. idk if i was because i had low honor or what but it was strange for sure. You should look into these for sure!
